Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

I can really see him going somewhere else and becoming a great player. At least put him with Fox and see what happens

Schneider has shown so many glimpses where he snaps the puck up ice with a great pass and springs the offense, but he can't do it consistently yet. It makes me think he can be a good all-around dman and not just a defensive dman. It would be a mistake to move him this early unless the return is a great long-term piece, and I don't mean JT Miller.

The recent transactions and win streak lead me to expect Drury to be a buyer at the deadline. Or at minimum self-rent guys like Smith and Lindgren.

C'mon now, RB...

Boston's PP is at 13%

I don't have to explain to you allhow bad that is.

Hampus Lindholm for Chris Kreider, Zac Jones, when Lindholm is back from injury. Trade K'Andre.

Borgen under contract allows the Rangers to make a Fox deal before his NMC starts on July 1. Schneider, Borgen and Mancini.

Are the Rangers keeping their rentals? Reilly Smith and Ryan Lindgren. The Rangers could really use one of those Orlov and Hathaway package deals and use the first round pick on a roster player in another deal. Some of the Cup contenders could use Smith's playoff experience and everyone is looking at adding another D.

Colorado? The Avs have the Rangers 2nd round pick in 2025. The Avs have their 1st round pick in 2026. Rangers retain 50% on both players. Pittsburgh is already retaining 25% on Smith. The Rangers traded a 2nd and 5th for Smith. Colorado would get Smith at 25%.

The Rangers play Schneider with Fox and recall Berard to replace Smith. There won't be that big of a drop off with Smith for Berard. Schneider is 1000x better than Lindgren. Recall Mancini. The team will be better overall and the Rangers acquire future assets to use for other players. The Rangers have all three retention spots. Smith and Lindgren come off in the summer.
Whether or not I agree with it, I think they keep Smith and move Lindgren by the deadline. Smith gets moved if the team momentum stops.

I could see that as a possibility. But I could also see Drury maximizing some assets while taking on, perhaps a player who they like but is overpaid where the market is negligible. Think Roslovic last year.

Hasn't Lindholm been, like, ass?

I see Boston fans complaining about that contract often

I'd heard something to that effect as well. IDK what his underlying metrics over the years in Boston have been. Maybe we get them to retain substantially since Kreider is arguably still a very valuable piece to the right franchise. If you can get them to keep half, looks a lot better.

Agreed it would have to be something like Power a LD coming back

Would cost more than Schneider but maybe not a ton more

Trading Smith and Lindgren should be no brainers. They’re not keeping either player. Trade Smith for a 2nd and Lindgren for a 2nd and then trade like a 4th for some depth or whatever. Team will be just as good

Could definitely see them extending smith based on price on a short term deal. He’s been good.

For however long Borgen fits well with Miller and if it ultimately helps get the best out of him, that's a win. Keeping them together, and keeping Miller and Fox apart, for depth, seems best to me.

Schneider, I hope, can be reliable enough to pair up with Fox and free him up to roam and be more active and creative, so Fox can get back to being a bigger factor offensively.

If Mancini and Vaakanainen are the third pair next season, I will feel good about that. Vaakanainen has done the little things well, seems he makes a potentially safe partner for Mancini trying to settle into the NHL level.

Would rather just get a good player. Or get picks and sign a good player

Almost guaranteed. He’s milking this cow for all it’s worth even though it won’t work lol
I'm holding out hope Lindgren is still gone. But I could easily see Smith staying for the year. Not sure Smith would get anything more than a 3rd honestly.

If the Schneider playing his off side experiment doesn't work i wouldn't mind Drury inquiring about a Schneider for Byram deal with Buffalo.
sorry HUGE NO bc of Byram past concussions = unacceptable risk, not even looking at anything else

Lmao it’s too early to start the drinking RB
NO, you see someone else saying same thing I did and you need to address what we said if you want to prevail on argument
Fox is quality, but his mobility can only get worse going forward
Mobility for Ds, who have to skate well forwards and backwards, is a prob
Short term, yeah, workarounds, but it is a reality that is not going away.
Admit it.
Yield to the logic

yes but those projections are too high
Smith a 4th maybe a 3rd
Lindgren now at a 5th

see above pls

Some moves the Rangers could make to improve the team.

Lindgren to Dallas for 3rd
Kreider to Avs for our 2nd back.

Garand and the 3rd for Lindgren to Pittsburgh for M Petterson.

Emery
Sykora
Chmelar
Jones
2nd for Kreider possible 1st in 2026.

For Miller

Petterson replaces Lindgren

Berard replaces Kreider

If they don’t include the 2nd in the Miller deal

2nd or 3rd to Boston for Frederic.

Trade Smith for a 3rd if possible most likely a 4th

UT, DAL whoev pays most, sure

Kreider to Avs for our 2nd back.
no
long term value, whether kept + used or flipped later, is to hold while he heals

Garand and the 3rd for Lindgren to Pittsburgh for M Petterson.
A gazillion times no
Garand has signif upside
and would rather just by Gav as a ufa

Emery
Sykora
Chmelar
Jones
2nd for Kreider possible 1st in 2026.

For Miller

NO
way way way too much

we can get him for
Sykora, Kaliyev, Smith, Lindgren
for
jtm and cap dump Desharnais

if we wanna be generous we throw in Jones and BMB
no need to overpay
and avoid youth for vets

Trocheck is in decline. Click on the tweet. Drury should be pro-active here and not wait until the bottom falls out. Full NMC this season and 12 team NTC starting in July.

Zibanejad and Kreider are dog shit. They sucked together. Broke them and the suckiness has spread to Cuylle and Chytil. The Rangers finally broke them up and they aren't any better.

Panarin is also having a down year. Artemi is also turning 34 later this year.

This core group is not worth doubling down on by acquiring another 30 year plus player with a huge cap hit. The Rangers aren’t winning with this group this season. The situation will only get worse as these guys get older. The Rangers keep rolling these guys on the PP. It's the same BS.

Miller is also in decline.

Is it Trochek or is it that his wingers have completely fallen off a cliff? Trochek isn’t 1, 2 or 3 on my list of concerns. Kreider should be gone. That’s a guy with value who the team can replace from within.
