I'm just saying they're not going to give Kreider the Goodrow treatment this offseason. Will they try to move him? Maybe. But it makes zero sense to do it during the season, especially if they're bringing in Miller. Also, he's hurt and he's coming off a pretty damn good season last year. And he's been one of the franchise's best playoff performers. I'm gonna wait to see how things shake out and who does what in the post season before saying who needs to go and who can stay.

I dunno about the Rangers but I'm convinced Chytil's health issues are not behind him. even if he doesn't have another "misses and entire season" I think he's always gonna get hurt and miss a chunk and then take weeks to get back to playing at the level he was at before injury.

You are probably right. I feel selfish for wanting Chytil to play because he has skills our team lacks (speed) but also fearful about his health issues. I do not think the main fear is missing weeks. I think the main fear is worse. I think Chytil is a great guy so I really hope he has some good luck health wise.

Ottawa couldn’t wait to lock everyone up for max term and they’re paying for it, though I agree in Sanderson’s case it’s paying off.

When you have team control, you either use it to limit liability via short term contracts that force them to perform to get paid, or you get a long term deal at a discount for financial security.

What you don't do is give guys max years at market value off an ELC for anything other than elite guys. Such a basic failure and they all do it.

Until today all the reports were that JT wanted to stay, it’s Vancouver that put themselves in position where they need to trade him because they destroyed their own locker room. They can’t afford to wait or their season will be over. Contrary to popular belief, punting seasons is not a viable strategy for teams.

I believe that may have been part of why Miller was out to start the season. That doesn't help them as they then have $8m in dead cap space they can't use and a player whose value is just going to drop further.

I get the sense that Miller came back with an agreement in place basically saying 'I will come back and play, but there needs to be an effort to move me'. I think he may be sensing a hesitancy to get it done considering it was close not long ago and he's probably saying something like 'I came back and upheld my part of the bargain, get it done'.

Now that the offers are less than the owner wants they are throwing out info that other teams are interested and Petersson is available, etc. I doubt it. Imagine a scenario where they trade Petersson and Miller still wants to leave. It doesn't make sense

There isn't a universe that Sanderson is moved. Ottawa couldn't wait to lock him up for as long as possible. He's the #1.

You have to look for a blueline that's a little overcrowded or non-diverse. Also teams in some flux, which there are many. I wouldn't be against dipping in the Seattle pool again if they continue to stink. Or Anaheim for that matter. They've got LaCombe, Zellweger and Mintkutov on the left side, would they move one of them?

I think if I were really going "all-in" on contending in the near future, my #1 target would be Weeger in Calgary. If you could get him for a package of like Lindgren, Othmann/Emery, and a first I'd do that without a doubt.

Calgary is competing. They won't move their core D who's also signed to a reasonable deal, especially with unsigned Lindgren as a key piece.

As much as Chytil + Lindgren + protected 1st for Miller is a steal for us, I'm more than fine just side-stepping that whole circus and keeping Chytil and the draft pick.

Lindgren for a 3rd at the deadline would still be an improvement to the roster.

I really like Chytil the player. I hate how I have to hold my breath whenever he is on the ice or attacking the middle of the ice. I'm okay including him for Miller, but the remainder of the deal needs to be commensurate with the Rangers giving up a 5v5 point producing young center. Basically, the remainder of the package needs to be practically little value.

All of this is moot if they are retaining though

This is bullshit. D is clearly better. Though yesterday was not an example of it. Goaltending is also better but it's not all goaltending. Rangers fans literally can never be happy. Need to be f***ing miserable all of the f***ing time.

I think it's a coping mechanism of softening the blow of expected disappointment.
