I like Pettersson but I really like Walman. Would cost much more though. I’d like a goal scoring threat like Chychrun but that ship has sailed.

We have Berard as another winger. I love Kaliyevs shot. Best example last night, he can score from anywhere. If he works on his first few steps/explosiveness he can be a good player

I keep seeing Walman but he has another year on his deal. The cost to acquire him will be too much IMO.

I'd look to find a player, like Ian Cole, who will likely cost very little as well as a good bottom-pairing d-man and roll forward in to the playoffs. It's not the 'big push' but I'd be pretty happy with that.

We've seen what we thought was offered for Miller, maybe there's a dman coming back in the deal too? If it's miller and a guy who can even take 3rd pair mins i think we're a better team, not that i dislike Chytil because I love what he brings, when he's healthy, but I dont see this team as being deep enough to be able to have him on the roster in a playoff run, and believe me he's gonna pop if he gets to Vancouver and might be what Boeser needs. However, having a center to play all areas of the game, great shooter, guy who cares, adds strength to the top 6, we have to do it. Looking ahead at a Cuylle Miller Othmann line reminds me of what Florida had last year. My only wish is that Sykora wasn't included, I like his energy.

Don’t trade for Miller, the team is playing well, the lines are gelling. The rangers still need to have a mind for the future and I’d still like to see them trade off the rentals, maybe with the exception of Borgen if there’s a chance that they sign him.

I think this is well said. Chytil is good but a limited player. He's a liability against the other team's top guys. I still have flashbacks to him being later to cover his man on the Forsling goal in ECF Game 4. the finishing ability and injury concerns are real as well. I think the rumored package is still a deal you dont hesitate to make. But there's no reason to be hasty with how the team is playing right now. JT is here on the Rangers terms, or no terms.

If we're making a push for the playoffs with trades. I don't think we're trading Smith away.

Unless the Rangers are getting back the 2nd they traded for him originally, It's worth it to self rent Reilly if we are in a playoff spot. He's important on the PK and that pairing with Mika is defending well without Kreider weighing them down. Cuylle's speed and physicality works there. Like a young #20. Sam keeps getting them confused lol.

22.5 million in estimated available cap space next season.
If Drury acquires JT Miller and his 8 mil that leaves 14.5 million left to sign:
2 forwards
4 d-men
1 goalie
Just to get to a 20 man roster.
the cap is going up considerably....

What number do Borgen and Vaakanainen want to extend here? Both guys have been great fits. not flashy but they are the defensive depth the team needs, that will always be useful. Borgen is Trouba at his best at a fraction of the cap hit. Urho is positionally solid and ist afraid to get his hands dirty for a smallish guy. They've made K'Andre and Schneider much better. Impressed at the work Drury did with those trades.
really shows how egregious the Trouba contract is

That isn't a fair criticism. He hardly played in the playoffs coming off a very serious injury. He wasn't anywhere near the player then than he is today, or at other times when he has been fully healthy.

This sounds like a rationalization for trading him for Miller, whom you obviously are very keen on acquiring. Yes, health is a concern with Chytil, but when he is healthy, he is one of our best play drivers at 5 on 5.

Can you honestly tell me that you'd rather trade Chytil for Miller than Mika for Miller? Not that the latter is a possibility, but you don't need to unfairly criticize Chytil to support your narrative.

I’d rather pay extra for that year than a rental

Not a fan of Cole with Fox. I’d rather try Schneider there

I’m not even convinced trading Chytil for Miller makes us that much better at 5v5. On special teams sure, but 5v5 it is not a guarantee. Chytil is also our best puck transporter, he can play off the cycle and the rush, he actually attacks the middle of the ice with the puck. This trade makes us much older and complicates the cap and roster flexibility in the future. I just hate it the more I think about it.

I think everyone would prefer to move on from Mika.

But Chytil is just too unreliable. The talent and potential is there.

If Chytil were able to stay healthy, there's no need to trade for Miller. But he can't and it sucks. A motivated Miller would be a big get for this team.

I thought about that too. Maybe do that and back-fill with Cole on the 3rd pairing. Either way, I'm not keen to trade a 1st for any d-man at this deadline. I truly think that the Rangers will have cap space to get the right guy to play 1LD this off-season so no need to waste more assets on that spot. Gavrikov is my guy

no doubt I target Gavrikov.... but depending on cost of acquistion for Walman, next season dgroup of...

Gavrikov Fox
KAM Borgen
Walman Schneider
Vaak Mancini

pretty stacked

The Rangers are back — and just in time for playoff push

I’d never quite seen anything like the 19-game stretch bridging November and December in which the Rangers won four and lost 15 in regulation.

And I’m not sure I’ve seen anything like this dramatic turnaround that began the first week of 2025 in which the Blueshirts have gone 7-1-3 to wedge their way smack dab into the playoff picture.

This is the sentence that I never believed I would write this season:

They’re back, baby!
numbers don't lie

Petterson next to Fox?

Who has been better recently, Lindgren or Vak? Who would be better suited to play on that last pair next to Schneider. Who has the better card.

I am on the Bjugstad train.

Laf-Troch-Panarin
Kreider-Miller-xxxx
Cuylle-Zib-Smith
Edstrom-Carrick-Bjugstad
Kaliyev

I think they self rent Reilly Smith.

Question is do they upgrade Kaliyev. And i think they do.

We shall see. All depends on where they are at the deadline. I think they will be in playoff position by then, especially if they bring in JTM now.
no on adding vets
deal surplus vets to upgrade to jtm and help push zib off this team

I mean, Chytil is still having plenty of defensive lapses this year. And he's always "coming off an injury". Nothing about what I said is unfair criticism.

They arent trading Mika for Miller. Everyone already said no to that. Id rather trade Mika but that's most likely going to be done concurrently or in the summer.

If you're concerned about Chytil's defense, just wait till you see JT's attention to detail.

I know JT has his moments, but you can play him against a guy like McDavid and he's going to get in his kitchen and try to rattle him. Chytil just isnt that type of player. We have no one who can do that, and its been a missing ingredient the deeper we have gone into the playoffs

we should keep Chytil [hope he does an Ekblad with concussions going forward] as he is dynamic 5x5 and we stupidly gave away KK. (I like Borgen, but other currency could have been used to acquire.)

As part of jtm deal, sell high on Vaak + Borgen taking acceptable short term downgrades coming back [Juulsen + Forbot].
unload Lindy at half = 2.25m
unload Vesey < 1
surrender Sykora as acceptable future < 1
surrender Kaliyev as acceptable future < 1
add expiring Smith 3.75 for short term F help
add a lesser pick

= ballpark 8+m

for
jtm + Juulsen + Forbot + cap dump Desh [who we immediately unload]
add a better pick
= ballpark 11+m

'nucks get around 3m short term cap relief, kick tires on upgraded D pair, + other value

Rs add jtm, acceptable 3rd pair
promote Robertson/Mancini
get a better pick

Oh, I'm not saying don't make the deal, I think they should when you consider Chytil's injury history. I'm just saying Miller has his lapses too and he's not coming here to play stout defense.

Seems that your issue is that Lindgren is included, yes?
TBH, after some thought, I'd rather spin Lindgren off in a separate deal for picks. I fear, like some on here, the NYR will re-sign him when he gets to UFA summer, if only to keep Adam Fox happy. Teams put too much value in that type of player. He'll be Dan Girardi 2.0 win in about 2 years; we'll be begging for Drury (or whoever is the GM by then) to waive him or buy him out.

Well seems like the team is trending back to making the playoffs.

I would do a lot for Drury to move Kreider at the deadline for a young hungry player who can help in the playoffs. Don't even need the 1st.

Kreider has been so checked out for almost every game, I want no part of him in the playoffs, one big game last year or not.
Kreider is 2nd on the team in goals. I think 1st in PP goals. 1st in SH goals. 1st in GW goals. But he’s checked out. Yes, he looks bad out there sometimes, but he’s producing decently. Sure take him off the PP, but I think it’s worth having him active this year, and hopefully he will recover enough next year to be more productive. You should hope he improves enough to be able to trade him for something good.
