Also it’s very clear that there was prospects included in whatever deal with Vancouver. Why else were those guys sitting if not?

So saying it was just Chytil, Lindgren and a 1st is likely wrong
No one has any idea what the actual offer was, which is good because it means depending on which side of the fence you sit; you can get really angry at Drury for being able to push through a steal of a trade, or you can get really angry at him for mortgaging the future by trying to trade lots of picks/prospects and only being saved by Vancouver management!

Chytil, Lindgren, conditional 1st (2025 if NYR make the playoffs otherwise 2026) for JT Miller. Not stoked about getting older, specifically adding significant term and dollars for a 32 year-old player. However, three things come to mind for me.

1) Chytil is totally unreliable because of his health. He's a pretty solid player when healthy, but he's hurt all of the time. We would need another reliable center even if you disregard whether Chytil stays or goes. He killed us last spring when, after missing the entire regular season, he wasn't able to keep up with the elevated pace of play. He hurt us this year when he's missed games too. JT Miller adds another lefty center that can win face-offs, play PP and PK.

2) Lindgren's game isn't what it used to be, as we all know. This trade forces NYR to pair Fox with another defenseman, which should improve the team's ability to drive possession.

3) The combination of 1 and 2 should help the Rangers make the playoffs, driving down the value of the 1st round pick. The team still stinks, but they don't stink enough to win the draft lottery. We still have many young assets that are close: Perreault, Othmann, Berard, Chmlar/Sykora if they don't go in the trade. Kreider and Smith can be moved at the deadline if the Rangers clearly won't make the playoffs. We keep the 1st this year. Otherwise, Kreider and Smith can go this summer to open up space for the young guys. Rebuild the defense and the team should be decent again next year.

I believe someone else pointed out, that’s brooks opinion. That he has zero source for that.

And as someone who’s seen Brooks’s terrible track record on opinions.

Drury can’t run this core 3 more years.
Panarins contract is up next year.
He’s can’t keep Mika as 1C.
Kreider has 2 years.

seriously there’s no way to run this core 3 years. His best hope with this core was last year or pull off a jt miller move now, and then perreault comes in and does a playoff run, and then move Mika in the off season.

Drury has shown a realistic approach to this team. I hated the kakko move, but aside from that he’s been accurate in where the problems lie.

He’s targeted pieces to fix the problem in the short term, and needs to make other moves to fix the long term.

I am not saying that this is the right direction to take for the team but lets not forget that Larry doesnt take a dump without Drury telling him. In Drurys mind replacing Trouba and Lindgren makes this team better than the team that went to the ECF last season. Bringing in JT and loading upp at the trade deadline is Drury betting on this core to get it done.

We've needed a young center forever, so the solution is a 32 yr old center?

I just don't get it.

This core is rotten & this little stretch where they weren't abysmal & maybe even decent, won't change that fact.

We should be jettisoning anything we can for whatever we can, including '26 picks because this isn't going anywhere & if we're doing it right, next season won't be much different.

Why the f*** are we trading our first rounder when A) we're not that good; B) our farm system is depleted; and C) WE'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE.
I think you have a very different definition of the word depleted.

We have in our system (Perreault)
a top 15 prospect.
at least 2 B+ defense prospects (Emory/Fortescue/Mancini)
a middle 6 forward who's close to ready for the NHL (berard)
a middle 6 forward who's getting closer for the NHL (othmann)

we are also a team who almost made the SCF last year. We have talent on our roster. We can likely move some of that talent for picks back.
I know this season looks rough, but its not bleak.

Additionally that's why there would be conditions on the pick. I'd put top 10 conditions on it, Vancouver likely wanted no conditions or top 3.

This alone makes Drury a blind fool!!!!

Larry’s pretty clear when he’s sharing things he’s heard vs throwing his own personal opinions out there.

This was the latter.

I dont consider bringing miller in "loading up at the deadline"
I consider it making a move to replace Mika "long term" with a guy who's deal is shorter, and is still actually producing.

I consider it an opportunity to push Mika out in the off season without a drop off in play.

I'm not a fan of getting Miller and burning a prospect or an early first. But for the reported offer? I run with that.
and if having Miller/Mika/Trocheck as 1/2/3 gets us a deep run? I'd consider that a positive, and then move CK and Panarin in the off season anyways and fix our defense.

I guess we will find out but dont tell me that bringing in JT does not scream of going all in with this core.
Id say considering the rift rumors between Miller and Petterson, especially how Miller wants Petterson to play north south. And how thats the opposite of half our forwards? I think that's Drury targeting a player who fits better long term.

Because we are probably only 4 or 5 players away from going somewhere. Miller, a healthy Kreider, and Mika actually staying in shape during the off season could very well be 3 of those players. Their rather healthy cap space could bring in 2 or three others. I don’t think we’re that far away.

I find our system pretty mid given the lack of blue chip prospects and the club’s record of not developing them into stars anyway. The only guy that excites me is Perrault and there’s still a 75% chance they turn him into a tepid grinder.

Perreault and Fortescue are looking good.
Emory needs more time to develop but is looking very good.

And considering we do have talent in on our NHL team we don't need an entire roster of blue chips. We need to fill holes. Some of them are big. Center and LD. But we aren't that far away from filling them. One lucky draft, or a good trade/free agency.

I agree with everything you said except I would give them our pick with no conditions. They’re taking our part time 4 mil center and Lindgren. God bless them.
