Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

No reason why this trade shouldnt be done soon, if that was the rumored deal. I have no ill will toward Chytil but he's a massive injury risk and Miller is a massive upgrade defensively as a guy who can match up with #1 C's. Lindgren might be useful for Canucks as a guy who can play with Hughes and can at least block shot and PK. What condition on the first are we really afraid of? Lottery protect it and be done with it. JT should be in the lineup for the Rangers on Tuesday against Ottawa. These are important games.

The Rangers are also like 50/50 to make the playoffs. Idk why it's some insurmountable task. They need to keep looking to improve.

If Lindgren does end up going in a JTM trade, I hope he gets paired with Hughes so we can see how much heavy lifting Fox has been doing. They won’t because he’s not a top pair guy, but it would be fun to witness.

Actually, it is otherwise. People are overly pessimistic about their chances to get in. For example, moneypuck has them at 51% to make the playoffs and The Athletic at 38% yet according to this site people act like it's 5.1%.
making the POs and actually winning the cup are 2 dif things

The conditions, whatever they may be, shouldn’t be a death blow to the deal.

NYR get a certain level of “top X” protection. If the pick falls below that number, van gets another pick.

Also, I just realized we don’t have a 2 this or next year bc of the Nemeth dump. lol.

This is where trading guys like Lindgren, Kreider, Vesey, Smith, Borgen (maybe) should come in

Or the year after. Drury traded that one for Smith.

If they needed that type of player on their D I'd be more open to it but they don't. Being allergic to D who can move the puck is not a winning formula and is probably the biggest reason why this team wasn't able to get over the hump last year.

Is he that much better than Vaak? Because Vaak is going to sign for for like half of what Soucy makes and is really good at being unspectacular.

If they're going to drop money on a D, it has to be on someone who is actually worth it or is a slam dunk bargain sign (see: Gustafsson, who half of this board hated bc he isn't 6'3" 220 but was a good player here.)

I don't know what they think of him now but early on in the season Red Wings fans HATED Gustafsson.

presuming jtm only wants to come here, limiting van options...

Borgen, Smith, Lindgren, Sykora, BMB, Vesey + 2nd
for
jtm + Juulsen + Forbot + Raty + 1st

'nucks upgrade D, get inside dibs on Borg, Smith is mid 6 F depth stopgap
Lindy we know, performance will depend how beat up he is, is expiring and ok for stopgap now
Sykora IS a good prospect, BMB = a maybe
Vesey sucks

Rs get jtm and other more useful scraps for other scraps

you're right that Gust WAS a good player
unfortunately that was not whole season, just first half-ish
he looked TOTALLY GASSED 2nd half
so no

Anyone with a non-traditional hairstyle for men should be banned for this team. You don't grow your hair out to your neck unless you are sporting a ponytail. How does anyone work with hair like that if they're a farmer or a dock hand? Imagine you're a merchant peddling fruit in 1153 Florence and you dyed your hair bleach blonde like some freak who is going to buy your satanic fruits? Zegras length hair is fine imo because there were quite a few successful flute playing members of traveling troupes in those days with a similar hair style but I don't think even the most unconventional avantgarde troupes would employ a man with shoulder length dirty tangled hair or a bleached mop.

Several reasons.

Strength of Schedule, motivation of teams around them and the fact that one of those teams is going to get better by doing nothing other than waiting for players to get healthy and #55.

Also they’ve beefed so many points along the way that they can’t afford an extended losing streak of 3+ games the rest of the way.

I think they probably hated everyone lol.

That team was baaddddd

They will easily make the playoffs if this JT Miller trade goes down

no idea if zib would waive, but if yes, zib + para as core to a deal is a win win

Although I concur w/several good pts in the rest of yr post, I disagree w/da bold.
Better to:
a) grab the bull by the horns and accept pain for doing so instead of letting the bull shit all over and trample you
break the bull
b) the players cannot be allowed to think that they can manipulate things esp to the extreme we have seen here this year
rule is old core must go, either
- to remove trouble
- course correction to sell high to add quality youth = help build a foundation that extends the window

Another great post, per usual, full concur on highlighted
Not sure if you misunderstand where I'm going. At least some of the players including some of our leadership resisted changes that were being made and now the season is kind of like f***ed. I'm not into bringing in rentals at the trade deadline moving picks and prospects to try to save this season for a team whose collective heart hasn't always been in it. If the team comes up short as far as making the playoffs---well a lot of that will be on them. Your leaders have to lead and particularly Zibanejad and Kreider have underperformed this season. For me however long they last---whether they serves out their terms here or not this should be the last contract either signs with this team. As for pain....as a fan I'm willing to take the pain of going from contender to pretender non playoff team to keep our future intact.

Well by the sounds of it, Lindgren would be in this deal.

But yes your point is correct. Smith needs to go simply bc it’s time for Othmann to get the call. 9 pts in 14 games since coming back from injury in HFD. Hes 22. It’s time to go.

Why rush Othmann. Smith will go on deadline day, no reason to toss him out for less value. Hes a good player

Genuinely can’t believe so many people think acquiring soon to be 32 year old JT Miller is a smart idea for this franchise.

Even if he’s a good player and the value is fine, what the hell is the plan here? Investing more in this vet core we know can’t get it done? Doesn’t make a lick of sense to me unless the plan is to be a 1-2 round playoff team for the next half decade.

Sounds like a perfect plan for job security if you’re CD. Keep the owner happy with playoff rev

Sending Berard down was really stupid. He was playing well and the exact style we need. Sending him down then was a great way to kill his confidence in himself and the org so we could what? Watch Kaliyev wander around? Watch Rempe lose a fight?

Trade Vesey for whatever and Smith. Get Berard back up here. Work on the Kreider trade and get Othmann up here. Stop f***ing around with these players for the old guys. Waste.
