Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Maybe not a crystal ball but we've seen how well this NYR core have faired against FL, NJD, TB in the last 3 years(playoffs and reg season). No way they're not meeting at least one of those teams in the playoffs.
Loss to Devils was addressed by replacing Galant. Loss to FL is being addressed by replacing Trouba and (expected) Lindgren and adding JTM. With healthy Fox. Not enough?

Rangers badly need a top 6(top line) forward who can match up with the other teams top players. Florida and Tampa series over the years showed it can't be Mika. From a hockey perspective, JT is a huge need. I dont get why everyone is on the rebuild and tank train after a bad month. Childish.

Get this deal done sooner than later.

"NYR or bust". Why should he do Vancouver any favors when they are scapegoating him for this mess they are in? JT has some unfinished business in NY and he's tight with Trocheck and presumably Kreider. Id like to see this happen sooner than later because we have some important games coming up.
*JT, known asshole, being a bad teammate and having a locker room hate him for a third time*

You ever hear his teammates speak about him or just regurgitate what you see on social media? Plenty of ex-Rangers (Brian Boyle & Keith Yandle) and ex-Canucks (and current Canucks) have said great things about him. Why do Demko and Boeser also want out if "locker room cancer" JT is about to get traded? Our team needs a massive kick in the ass and JT is that. We need a matchup player and our PP sucks. JT is a perfect fit. Its a long term solution, I don't give a shit what age he is.

The Lindgren, Chytil, 1st (whatever conditions) is not a strong offer, especially if Miller will waive somewhere else in the East. It's possible that Vancouver is hoping other teams circle back and think, we can beat that offer without feeling like we're paying as much or more than we initially thought it would take.

The more NJ loses, the more they may make a panic decision. I think some of their fans are overreaction like the sky is falling but they have only 4 games over the next 2 weeks, and losing at least 3/4 might get the organization to make a move, should Miller still not be traded yet.

"NYR or bust"

We've seen this story before. It ends with us getting bent over backwards and "leverage" becoming a foreign word.
Most of the time we're not the only team. We just get reported as "the team." Also, after it gets delayed for 2 weeks, eventually another team enters the mix and then we pay more to get it done instead of just doing the deal weeks ago.

I have mixed feelings on JT coming here. I don't like the age/contract, but I hate this current roster...

idk man, when a player who’s that good gets thrown off 3 straight teams, that usually suggests something lol

But suggesting Vancouver is scapegoating JT is just patently absurd. It’d be like saying the Rangers were scapegoating Trouba for their locker room situation. Pure nonsense

Come on. Dont do the "believe everything on social media" schtick here. We are better than that. This isnt a youtube comment section. Every single person that has talked about him, including the guys you just mentioned plus Sam and Joe, have made mention of his abrasive attitude. They typically say it nice, like he is "a passionate guy". Or "he can be really intense". Not to mention it's now 3rd team that wants him out. Not to mention there is literal video of him getting into it with teammates.

Whether or not he is a fit, or the right move, is separate from that stuff though and will have to be something we find out over time if we make the trade.

It is impressive how much we overpay for all these players that apparently don't want to go anywhere else.

No not impressive. Interesting?

No not interesting. Ironic?

No...horseshit. There it is.

For the same reason people on the board keep bringing up Ada.
People think it’s simply like nhl on Xbox. The only thing that matters to them is skill and there’s zero thought to locker room.

The other side is that people want to believe that miller being intense (which is the opposite of what he was with nyr and Tampa), and they think that’s what we absolutely need. We know that he trains with trocheck and has played w ck and so there’s a level of familiarity here.
Plus he does play the type of game that most fans think we absolutely need.

He was young here. Clashed with AV which I actually condone. AV killed the vibe Jagr then Torts built and we see festering today. My issue with JT when he was here was rumors he had a drinking problem. With the red face and puffy face at the time, I tend to believe it.

But that was a long time ago and he was a dumb kid.

Tampa, thbomk was a cap issue. They were icing some stacked teams and probably just made a decision. Maybe they felt they could keep 2 or 3 guys over 1 JTM. But Ive never read about personal issues with TB.

Now we have Van. But Van has been a hot mess for decades when Linden took over the team from Burke. They are a soft team in a soft city. Seems like they guys who want out are tired of being outnumbered by the soft pond hockey club. Wouldnt surprise me if you saw Garland gone amongst JT, Demko, and Boser.

It take the chance on JT if it changes our room for the better long term and doesnt cost us dearly.

Does Vancouver not want K'Andre?

The Rangers need to improve the defense and part of that needs to involve a significant personnel change. Miller is never gonna be on the 3rd pairing here for a long time.

Do what you want with the forwards, but Lindgren-Fox, Miller-Borgen, Vaak-Schneider isn't winning a cup. It's borderline disqualifying like our forward group in 2009 was.

I wish the conversations we were having were about guys like Josi, not JT.

I'm going to assume that right now Rangers don't want to part with a defensemen like Miller and struggle with putting Schneider on the table. Lindgren being a UFA is the only one that probably makes sense to them. As much as we shit on Miller, I don't think they want to go into next season with such uncertainty on defense.

I think a Miller add will bump up the compete level of Laf , Cuylle [even more] & Edstrom-Berard-Othmann and likely Schneids and maybe KA Miller if he has a pulse . That IMO is a fairly huge ripple on a vanilla like club for the most part . We can still make other moves to tinker with the roster....and maybe even add a Frederic if we move out Lindgren .

Adding Mancin is also a wildcard at this stage at best.....is he ready and will he be a physical player ....do we sign Borgen ? It is all speculation....but adding Miller could jump start the change in attitude and play by our club . If he is only good for 3-4 yrs....we move on from him but at least he has planted a seed in some of our young guys .

I would take the chance on him if the price is Chytil+ a combo of Chemlar/Edstrom/Lindgren and anything within reason for the Rangers .

If we did land JT and Laf/Miller arent involved.

Would anyone here bat an eye if we called up Ottawa and offered Laf+KM for Sanderson?

Sanderson is at this point I think established even at this young on his career. Laf and KM are still a gamble for NYR and OTT. But the upside for both of them probably trumps Sanderson if they both explode.

Maybe we add Garand and they add a lower pick and we take one of their goalie contracts and bury it in HFT?

Didnt think this totaly through but your post got me thinking and im on the road. So its a quick hit for me.

Not really imo. Until lindgren is gone he is here and if he goes we don’t know who pl will use in his place. Miller will help offensively as a player but I don’t think his compete will force players like panarin or zib to be harder defensively and not cheat leaving the zone. Also Miller is not a defensive forward who will help this team playing team defense. Even with Miller I don't see this team not getting flustered when time and space become smaller and the play becomes more physical.

No trade will be happening until after tonight’s game or tomorrow, if at all to happen in the next 24 hours. The Rangers cannot afford to play down a 3C and Top 4D minutes eater when they desperately need points.

Also, a Cuylle-Miller-Kane line has a nice ring to it.
