Mika has been an average 2nd line player during his resurgence, let's not get things very twisted here.

He was actively sabotaging games before that, woop dee doo he's not at 1% of his game he's just at his 20%. Zippity doo da.
I am not saying he is back to his 90 point self. Far from it but he has been one the best players and on some nights the best player on the team since the break.

People have been waiting to brag about how they're right.

If we're bad at developing prospects, did Seattle fix his development in 13 games? It's absurd.

Also top 4 D plus two picks, including a 3rd rounder is perfectly adequate for a middle 6 player at best. We got a good return for a good, not great player. If Borgen was a bum instead of a pretty good player who upgraded our biggest weakness ok. But right now it just looks like a big circle jerk of people who want to brag about how much they were right and shitting on the Rangers.
The NHL must be full of the dumbest people alive since literally every fanbase thinks their coach, GM, and organization are full of idiots. Except Tampa. Sometimes.

Despite the surface level EP40 trade rumors, JT i'm sure sees the writing on the wall. Canucks made their choice and the call out of Pettersson by Allvin was more to motivate their guy than put it out there that he'll be traded. Seems a bit unfair to Miller who has been nothing but a great player for them since he's been there. Most of their fans seem love him. He'll bounce back in a place that wants him and he can be himself which is why I think he wants to be here. It's not a Trouba situation where the guy was unplayable for years before he checked out.

You can set yout watch to the Rangers overpaying for a guy who wants to be here though. MSL and Kane come to mind lol. We'll see what happens.
We overpaid for Kane?

It amazes me that Kakko can step into a new org, with top minutes and PP time, immediately play the best hockey he has played at the NHL level…and people don’t want to admit something is rotten here.

That the NYR failure to draft productive offensive talent is somehow just “bad luck.” “Bad drafting” “Players needing a fresh start” “He wasn’t going to do that here”

I understand it may be more comforting to believe your favorite team is just cursed by some magical force, rather than woefully inept with a deeply ingrained disfunctional culture.

But at some point the cognitive dissonance has to be too much to ignore.
It's amazing but also not- in that it's very difficult for those of us outside the organization to be able to identify microfoundations as to what the 'rot' is.

We want to be able to make things better and talk about the ways we think Drury or others could do that. What really none of us have is a solution to a systemic problem.

I say this all with the belief still that Kakko tops out as an inconsistent, slow of foot 40-50 point middle 6 winger.

The issues with this line of reasoning is that it doesn't appear to account for results.
It's entirely possible that we could have had KK playing top minutes across the board, and he likely would have put up points because that's what happens in the NHL given enough ice time (example A: PA Parenteau in his 50+ and 60+ seasons). It's very unlikely though that at any time while doing that the team makes the ECF.

While KK is setting the NHL on fire right now, his team is 4-8-1 since he got there (not all KK's fault obviously). The Rangers, with all their issues and handicaps and dysfunction, are 6-5-2 over the same span and better positioned to make the playoffs (although still outsiders).

Ryan Strome managed to find a few seasons where he could put up respectable points on a good team, so I'm sure KK will as well and will probably earn himself a similar type of contract, but neither are guys that I look at and think 'difference maker' at the NHL level on a team expecting to win things

If Vancouver wanted Schneider I wouldn't say he's off the table. That said I think NYR can run with 4 competent RD long term.

You can

A) Move Fox to the left side, which I actually think would be a lot more seamless than it would be for a more traditional blueliner.

B) Move someone else to the left on a lower pairing.

I still think NYR need a top defenseman, so my dream would be

1st pairing LHD- Fox
Miller-Schneider
Vaak/Mancini-Borgen

Assuming of course that we don't trade Miller. Miller could always recover, improve, work better with a different D coach. I'm ambivalent on what to do with him still though I wouldn't shed a tear if both he and Lindgren were dealt mid season or offseason. Th general idea is that I think we should be focused on getting te best defensive 6 we can with depth, and worry little to not-at-all about handedness in the process. It had it's hayday from like 2009-2024 but 3LHD and 3RHD I think is going to become less in vogue moving forward.
1st pairing LHD- Fox is the Key (pun intended). Miller's play has shown improved performance in the recent games but I wouldn't hesitate to convert his trade value into a bona fide 1LD because I have concerns that Miller will ever settle into a completely reliable 20min D.

I dont get the love for Eichel and wanting him here yesterday. The guy was a non factor on Vegas cup run. He went goalless for the last 11 games of that run.

He would have been killed for that performance if he were a Ranger.
He put up 13 points in 12 games and was a +12 during those last 12 games. 3 out of the 5 SCF games were multi-point games. Most of those were primary points. I don't think he would have been killed for that performance.

Trading a second and handicapping our team on the ice for 2 straight weeks just to fit in an obviously injured player was an overpay, yeah. And I was in favor of the move at the time.
I don't really think we overpaid on price. But you can say it was a move that didn't need to be done for obvious reasons, which I fully agree with, especially after just trading for Tank.

Things are different here. Him leaving the ice without scoring a goal for 11 straight games in the playoffs would have had him crucified. Vegas winning the cup masked all of that.

It felt like an overpay simply because Kane had complete control of his destination. He made it clear the only spot he'd accept a trade was here & we still agreed to a 2nd which could've become a 1st had we made it to the ECFs.

At the time & even more so looking back it seems like Drury had them over a barrel & completely caved. Kane was damaged goods who didn't move the needle for this team at all...nor did he bring anything the team was lacking.

no x 2
neither better nor best
and actually, taking into account the legit, real actual issue of playing defense, he has been one of, if not, the worst

I honestly believe there a some "fans" who prefer to be proven right in their narrative ahead of team success.
1000%
"tear it down" isnt an option
sure we can collect late 2nd or 3rd rounders for spare part players
to do what with exactly? play with mika in a few years? Lol.

you would think the team hasnt won a game since october the way this thread has been going
