I do agree to sell but also buy players with say a year left
that objectively has to depend on the player, and whether or not what is a presumed vet is taking away mins from young player who needs mins
I've updated this based on what we have heard
per my usual, best hope for at least 1 if not multiple cups = EXTEND the window
this means deal vets for youth, few exceptions notwithstanding.
The out of nowhere Zib meltdown has complicated things with great negative forces. Even a premium payment to remove him must be acceptably profitable to a trade partner and that is not readily visible other than gutting nyr to an intolerable degree.
Deal Fox first so that the vet core, esp Zib, gets the message, no guarantees, but it likely makes enuf impression on him current posture is unsustainable.
1. NYR-OTT
Fox 9.5 + a later NYR 2nd [like 2027]
for
Pinto 3.7, Kleven elc < 1 , Grieg 3.25 x 4 say a round estimate = 7.8
ballpark cap dif [9.5 - 7.8] = 1.7, which Sens have suf cap room 6.4 +; also Rs can accept expiring cap dump [Harmonic? at 1-ish] if desired.
Assessment
Fox is 1RD top end complement w/Sanderson. This slightly thins OTT pivot, but the wince can be absorbed. Pick swap is down the road, so possible.
Rs get young D + Cs
2. Rs-‘nucks
This has to be done as an ‘A’ + ‘B’ scenario
VAN does not want to trade either Elias Pett or JTM, howev, it may have to move one or both. It def does NOT want Zib for either. On paper, it wants Zib for a buy low bargain. Zib said he does not want to go there. I don’t doubt that but I think if he gets out from under in NY, and is given a public assurance that if he does not like VAN they will try this off season to follow up trade him to the destinations of his preference, that I could see. The Rs can ultimately sit him every game, which is not a good look that he wants to explain to his little girl. And it is conceivable that if VAN does a deal with NYI for Dobson w/EP the other core piece going the other way, Mika could wind up 1C for ‘nucks.
So deal 2 ‘A’ – Rs ditch Mika to VAN for small pieces and accept cap dump Deshar.
Zib max 50% retained 4.25 to 4.25
for
Juulsen .775 exp., Raty 836.667 exp ->rfa , Forbort 1.5 expiring, Desharnais 2m x 2
ballpark cap is Rs eat 5-ish, ‘nucks take back 4.25 = around .75m to VAN
Rs gt 4.25 structural cap recovery. Juulsen ok bottom pair. Raty fine to add at position of need. Forbort is possible 3LD depth after selling Lindgren in separate move. Finally do VAN a solid adding the useless cooked python Desharnais.
This leaves VAN thin on bottom D depth, but that can be added easy ‘nuff, including follow up, incl w/Rs if nec. And they add a currently even guy w/first line exp for top 6.
Now deal 2 ‘B’ –
JTM says he wants out. Does he want out, OUT, or does he want out now b’c Elias P who may/may not get dealt.
And he says he would waive for NYR. But is that real? And how about when he gets here?
So 2B may or may not have to take place, but if it does just as 2A required some discount so is there some (but less) here on JTM
JTM full pop = 8 + VAN 2026 2nd
for
KAM [K’Andre Miller] 3.8 expiring -> rfa + Borgen 2.7 expiring -> ufa +C prospect Sykora = elc <1 + 2027 1st + cap dump Vesey .8
cap is ballpark =, 8 vs hair less than
So, if JT presses this, that gives Rs a solid 1C/W. If not they retain their pieces. Vice versa for ‘nucks. That said, VAN could bundle
Elias Pett. + Borgen + for Dobson + Barzal +
3. NYR-LAK
Shesty 5.6+ now [ext is next season, he agrees to waive b’c Rs are a mess]
Trocheck - 5.6+
NYR 2026 1st
Jones 800k+
Vaakanainen 1.1+
ballpark cap = 13.2
for
Byfield 6.25 x 5
Helenius 800K+ elc
Clarke 800K+ elc
+ LD prospect Jakub Dvorak, elc, 870k x 3
ballpark cap = 8.5
Deal enables dumping Rittich 1m expiring, to be sold elsewhere for a 7th, or if LA prefers, Rs can take
cap dif = roughly 4.7 which is easily covered by 9.9+ cap space
Assessment:
While surrender of Byfield is a major concession, Kings win this deal, but it is still a fit for Rs. Due to surplus depth, this pivot of the future is getting time at W, I am to understand. Trocheck assume he waives b’c the band is being broken up and LA is a good landing spot w/an emerging team, is face off win % leader. So Kopitar remains 1C this season and maybe 1-2 more, w/Tro at 2C ready to challenge, pushed by Danault at 3C, and others 4C.
But elite Shesty = best NHL G right now, Ks have serious wood to acquire, and he is locked up 8 seasons after this. THAT justifies this deal. Also 2026 Rs 1st. Vaak = good stopgap for now, and Jones is very good skater, effective puck mover. Loss of quality youth is a wince, but enough youth retained while LA upgrades team from compete to contend.
Rs add quality youth w/height and mobility. Kreider for now stays w/Byfield at pivot and we’ll see at JTM or Gabe Per at RW next season. Helenius betw Edstrom LW and Rempe RW can dominate and do more than just check once playing together -> chemistry kicks in. Add a quality LD prospect and RD Clarke, highly touted but just adding mins now.
Win win, too much on the plate for either team to refuse
4. Panarin twice retained to DAL, from Rs thru ANA
Bread retained 5.6+ to 6m to ANA, who eats 2.5 for 3.5 cap hit to DAL, and gets something less this year, plus full 2.5 value next year, and gets corresp futures/etc from Stars
Rs get Bichsel from DAL
5. Sell off surplus Lindgren at half + Robertson to Avs for mutually satisfactory picks
Rs have ruined Robertson, Avs need backliners
6. Smith, Carrick [back to Oil ?] for highest bidder
result for now presumes JTM to Rs happens
Kreider - Byfield - JTM
Othmann- Pinto/Grieg -Brodz/Berard
Cuylle - Chytil/Grieg/Raty - Chytil
Edstrom - Helenius -Rempe
forward depth = enough there ^ but usual suspects in the A if nec
Kleven - Schneider
KAM - Clarke
Forbort- Mancini/Juulsen
Bichsel marinating: Dvorak, Fortescue, Emery
usual suspects for D depth: Harpur/Mackey/Ruhwedel
Rasmus Larsson and Hank Kempf may be close enuf for cup of coffee if available
G: Garand reinforced Quick + Domingue
