There aren't that many pending UFAs who are potential cap dumps on good teams with limited cap space. The opportunity to weaponize our cap space isn't really there.

Therein lies the issue.

The cap is going up, so players on big contracts aren't free. Even those who are performing poorly relative to their salary are getting a neutral return like Trouba.

So it's not enough to have cap space. NY will have to trade futures, of which we already have troublingly few.

He's our best 5v5 center but he's always out or just getting back in. Have to make a move here or get a backup plan

He’s not tradeable for that reason . Just gotta live with him being safe and missing a few games

Chytil is tradable, but he’s probably at the point where he’s more valuable to the team than he would be in a trade.

The Rangers need to move on. I love the guy, but every time he gets a little bit of momentum he's out of the lineup. Again. Rinse and repeat.

You can't build consistency with a guy like this on the team.

Also, OBJECTIVE proof you are wrong, he is not a liability is FACT they win more when he is the lineup
that is opposite of liability = an asset

I believe it is a learning process, and last prior game where he got the misconduct he had a great game, just got sloppy one single instance w/raising the forearm = a brain fart. He has been playing well.
Let us hope he has enough discipline to do what he knows is right and advance.
Disagree as to he is afraid = useless
He will + should def be more reserved to pt of caution, but that is not useless
And as others noted, he provides real energy

Heck I atleast trust Vesey to be a good defensive F and I d dump him for a mid round pick

A lot depends on the type of cap space that’s available and what they are able to secure at the deadline. It’s possible that a possible Kreider trade returns a good, developing young defenseman who could start in the NHL next year in a depth role.

Overall, I think the right move is Lindgren gone, possibly Borgen as well. I’d consider signing Borgen as a UFA if he makes it. I’d seriously consider Gavrikov at ~$5.75-6.25m per season as well.

Just as an example of what I mean:

Deadline
Borgen to Colorado for COL 2nd + 3rd
Kreider to LA for Jeannot + 1st + 2nd + 2nd
Lindgren to Minnesota for 2nd + 5th
Smith at 50% to Vegas for 2nd
Jones to Utah for 3rd + 6th

Offseason
Id consider trading a 6th to Colorado for Borgen’s rights to re-sign him. Say 4 years at $3.25m per season

Sign Gavrikov for 7 years at $6m per season

That’s a much improved defense and it’s not really all that expensive honestly. You could convince me of trading Miller in a package or by himself for a comparable young forward and signing Orlov to a 3 year deal. I like the way he plays in general and I think he’d fit with the type of player the back end could use.

He plays 5 min b'c stupid mgmt favors vets, has been a trend for years, they keep losing doing that, and until they bend, buckle and break on that, it will continue

On that item Rempe is a victim, not a cause

Vesey has been dead for a while and should have been gone since last season
he no longer has enough motor to do much
