Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XV (Light em up!)

Rather than what I want, I'm gonna guess what happens

Kreider, Lindgren, Smith, and Vesey all dealt by the deadline
- Mostly for picks around 2nds and 3rds, but we get a solid young player back in the Kreider deal

Quick gets asked if he wants to be traded to a contender or stay, if he does get dealt it is for a 4th or 5th

Zib and K'andre both dealt in the offseason
- Zib in a Trouba-like deal
- K'andre for a decent young semi-reclamation player and a 1st in this draft

Borgen re-signed
Cuylle 5-6 year extension
Panarin and Trocheck stay

If we don't rebuild we will just continue the pattern of being good enough to get to the playoffs and not good enough to win the Cup.This entire organization and it's philosophy needs a complete overhaul for this team to ever take the next step.

No rebuild has ever worked unless you luck into at least 1 and usually 2 future hall of famers. You also don’t bail on a team after 1 half season of poor play when we ended our last rebuild 3 years ago. There are moves to be made still but there’s no rebuild coming.

I think if zib moves it’s for more than a Trouba deal in the off season.
There were reports that plenty of teams were interested in trouba this off season.
Mika is showing flashes, and if he’s just a change if scenery trade then it’s easier to both fit his deal and get assets back.

Trouba mid season got us a reclamation project and a pick, with zero retention.

Mika is more valuable.

Zibs isn’t going anywhere. I even have my
doubts Kreider gets moved at this point.

Ideally we coerce team to take him and Lindgren for that upgrade at LHD. Always circle back to Bichsel and Dallas. But Dallas would want a RHD.

Troubla had a limited NTC though, Zib has full control and we can't theaten with waivers; will be interesting to see how it unfolds

I think if we genuinely want change, Panarin is the one who needs to go.

I'd like to do something else with those dollars and I'm kind of tired of his care less puck management (I know that comes with the territory.)

Plus we know the Playoffs bring out the worst in him.
What do you even get in return

I think it's Gavrikov and then someone like Orlov or Provorov.

Gavrikov-Fox
Olrov/Provorov-Schneider
Vaakanainen-___________

Maybe that spot is Mancini? Maybe it's another veteran UFA on a short term deal?

They will keep Miller and sign 1 ufa Ld imo

Resign Borgen

Mancini still young and can play LD and RD

If we sign Borgen, Schneider can be a chip for upgrade at LHD or Center. Mancini a year closer. Emery a year closer.

Do players get paid the same amount of $ regardless of whether they make the playoffs?

I realize that many of these guys are ultra competitive and want to win the Cup but the cynic in me wonders if a lot of players could care less because there's no $ benefit (or is there?).

Probably an easy answer but I honestly have no clue. IMO, players should be compensated more $ if they're playing more games.

Bonuses in their contracts for things like Conn Smythe or winning the cup would be the most likely

A very bad hockey team

Yeah if you don’t do anything with the space and just leave the spot open the team will suck more than they suck right now.

I wouldn’t really anticipate a full tear down though.

I’d allocate his dollars to someone else or multiple players. You can do a lot with that cap space, whether it be buying another big name or getting 2-3 really quality pieces.

Performance bonuses are very limited. They are mostly for ELCs. And I don't think winning the Conn Smythe is one of them. I think only regular season awards are included in the schedule B bonuses.

Players get paid their full salary over the course of the regular season. There is a playoff bonus pool, funded by the NHL and NHLPA, paid to playoff teams based on how well they do. Florida got 242k per player for winning the cup.

You are right, it is actually against the CBA except for ELCs and over 35 contracts.
