Emily Kaplan said the Rangers want more "meat and potatoes" type of players. These boys like champagne and caviar. Ray Ferraro said the Rangers need two more guys like Will Cuylle. Brennan Othmann is a "meat and potatoes" type of player and nearly everyone wants to trade him. Let's have more finesse players in the lineup. Has anyone seen my boy Artemi Panarin recently?

Those types of players are hard to acquire. The Caps have that Protas guy who is a monster. The Caps drafted his younger brother Ilya last year and is another 6-5 200 monster.
dylan roobroeck, jaro chmelar, adam's sykora, noah laba - all meat and taters guys.

what the rangers need are real 2 way defensemen.

panarin to utah for mcbain, daniil but and our 2nd in 26.
kreider 50% retained to dallas for bichsel
miller and smith to col for cal ritchie and our 2nd in 25
lindgren to boston for a 3rd

While I don't disagree with the sentiment that we need more "meat and potatoes" guys, you know what happens when you have a team like that? People say "we need more skilled players." Hard to find players who are both.
Also way easier to find those "meat and potates" type of guys. You don't want to find a Goodrow. You want to find the next Goodrow who is doing what he does for a small salary.

Also known as, Will Cuylle.

Lindgren with a -3 today and that's even before flipping the puck over the glass on his lonesome. His dragging Fox down is a tale as old as time.

Someone tell me why it's so hard for Lavi to just put Miller and Fox together. It worked. And even when it didn't work out well, they were still a pair on the decent side of the stats.
The reason Miller and Fox are not together is to protect Lindgren.

That’s the only reason

they're different players - but this is incorrect. Goodrow on SJ and tampa line was a f***ing menace.
I haven't watched him in SJ to know how he's actually playing. But I can look up his stats and see he's playing in the 4th line today. A 4th liner cannot make 3.6M

Could not agree more. For lack of a better phrase, we need more dirt bags. Guys who are just total assholes on the ice and by virtue of that drag there teammates into the fight.

Past players would include, matt barnaby, sean avery, theo fleury, tony deangelo.

Current nhl players

Brendan dillon, garnett hathaway, pospisil, max domi, lomberg, olivier, jeannot, sam bennett, charlie macavoy, trent frederic, gudas, duhaime, the tkachuks, konecny, tom wilson

You're team Canada at the 2025 WJC's and you get knocked out in the quarters.

Tony agreed, but Id gladly take Avery right now
The Rangers as a team and us as fans won't miss his seven offsides a game.

All Drury has drafted other than Perrault and Laba are meat and potatoes guys: Othmann, Sykora, Chlemar, Rooberak, McConnell-Baker, Vasailaineen (sp). Not all will make it ever, not all will make it here. Some definitely will though.

People saying the rangers need meat and potatoes is really misunderstanding the problem.

You don't win anything with "just" meat and potatoes. We had meat and potatoes.
When meat and potatoes are your primary, secondary, tertiary scoring options, you dont win anything.

You need a top 6 who can score. You need some east west, you need some north south.

Meat and potatoes is Cuylle. Cuylle on a line where he's the best player on the line does absolutely nothing. It might be fun to watch for a few shifts, but it does nothing.

You NEED skill to win. You need centers to win.
Our problem is that our top 6 can't score and doesn't play defense.
We have what looks like 3 defenders who are capable of being NHL defenders. Now some of that is helped by an actual #1D, but we need guys who can get the puck out and stretch the ice.

You dont get "meat and potatoes". You replace the underperforming players. Meat and potatoes is Callahan. You want north south with skill, thats not "meat and potatoes".

It’s crazy. These people act like the Rangers are filled to the brim with elite skill but have no grit. Trocheck, Cuylle, Berard, Smith, Kreider, Edstrom, Vesey and the entire defense sans Fox. The elite skill being Panarin, Fox, Lafreniere ( who supposedly plays with an edge), Mika? Once again the Rangers fail to see what the real problem is and are going to overcorrect with meat and potatoes. Can’t wait for the Rick Nash 2.0 trade after we remove all the talent.

I dont think Drury fails to see the problem. I think the media doesn't understand the problem.
Drury moving Kakko is the only subtraction of actual talent.
Moving Mika wouldn't be a subtraction of talent because currently he's got nothing.

That being said yeah the problem is our talent isn't producing, our defense isn't getting the puck out of the zone.
Currently our best 2 way forward is probably chytil, he's the only one who really looks engaged and dynamic all game in each end.

People were laughing at me for saying that Mika was trending in the right direction.

going on what you said, then they're still laughing
Mika still looks shitty, his [lack of] defense has been abysmal incl last 2 games
oh, and 1 game vs BOS you referenced does not make a trend

Panarin, not Kreider, should go to DAL for Bich. + a 2nd; we have to chip in for 3rd team to help w cap, so only a 2nd added, but DAL pays most of it

Add Kleven
Fox + sooner 2nd
for
Kleven, Pinto, Grieg + 1st down the road

------
2nd bold = play Rempe

The last time the Rangers acquired a "meat and potatoes" type of player was Goodrow. That went well.
Goodrow was a terrific player here but people couldn't get over his cap hit. The way this season has derailed I think too many people are underestimating the positive impacts Goodrow had on the locker room. So much of what you see on the ice during the games is a manifestation of what is happening in the room with the players and their ability to work together. Other factors as well but the rangers today are sorely void of legitimate leadership.
