The issue has been that Drury has consistently traded assets at the trade deadline for complimentary players to bolster a an existing core that was just not built to win it all.

This is the part that has bugged me but in all reality, he has pushed chips to the middle when this core probably had it's best chances of success and very little cap room and at least appears to be making moves in the right direction to retool or rebuild as he has seen it slip away

Who's on lines 2 and 3 in that scenario? Who's on defense? We aren't winning with 1 good line.
In the interim, pending additional trades:

Kreider - Mika - Smith
Cuylle - Trocheck - Berard (could see this trio being extremley effective together)

Again, pending additional trades, Jones would slot in for Schneider on defense and you have someone play their offhand side.

I keep seeing that Drury is an idiot but all he has done is trade Trouba and find a way to get rid of Goodrow without giving up any assets to do so and created ~$12m in cap space. I understand he's not batting 1.000 but c'mon people. Relax with that stuff and provide a nuanced take a bit
Yeah, I suppose this is a correct assessment of his abilities if you’re acting like those are the only two things he’s done the last 3 years lmao

I don't disagree, and that's the crux. I'm not saying he's perfect, he's not. But idiot?

I mean fair enough, to me the distinction between he’s replacement level and he is Peter Chiarelli (agree can’t definitively say that latter yet…but it’s on the table) is kind of irrelevant. See little to convince me this is the guy that should have his hand on the wheel.

I'm not touching Schneider or laffy.
Zib and KAM Zac Jones or Borgen for Miller and Bowser

More so just curious if since they so close and may get zib to waive if kreider and Zib and Borgen or Jones for JT Miller and Boesner?

I'll walk back some of my criticism of Drury (even though I still think he's the worst GM in the NHL) if the main framework of the deal is Zibanejad for Miller. But let’s be real—that’s not happening. Instead, Drury will likely give up valuable assets—young players, prospects, or draft picks—to acquire a 31-year-old forward who hasn’t scored 5v5 in a while and is only willing to waive his NMC to come here. Meanwhile, we have one of the worst records in the NHL.

So now, we have Desperate Drury, who schemed his way into this job by throwing JD and Jeff Gorton under the bus and has been nothing but incompetent, trying to salvage a lost season. He’s scrambling to save a sinking season (and probably his job), even though JT Miller—or any player—won’t fix the core issue: this team’s toxic culture. Until that changes, adding Miller or anyone else is pointless. Honestly, I wouldn’t even trade a second-rounder for him at this point. This team is a dumpster fire with or without him.

Drury has never "won" a trade (IDK if you count the whole Trouba debacle a win. He f***ed it up to begin with) and probably never will. His negotiation skills are subpar and his track record is abysmal. Frankly, Chris Drury negotiating is like Nicolas Cage being offered movie roles.

Who originally gave Goodrow that NTC?

Who royally f***ed up the Trouba trade initially and thus had to go into the season for more than a quarter of the season with a disgruntled, incompetent "captain"?

Like I said, we aren't winning with that. Blowing our load to get Petersson is just a bad idea to start with. Doing it and not dumping Mika is even worse.

You didn’t like reacquiring Tyler Motte 38 games after letting him walk in free agency?

BINGO. BING.O. And yeah, I get "buying" at the Deadline and going all in for a Cup run, but Drury is the master of sinking assets to make upgrades to a basic car.

He let everyone walk in FA! Copp, Vatrano, Kane, Tarasenko, Braun, Motte (twice)...Everyone! Assets flushed down the toilet.

I'm all for swapping Mika (+ Lindgren?) for JT Miller, but if Vancouver has pause on Mika then who's taking on that full contract? EP instantly solves our 1C problem. Pair Miller with Fox and we solve our 1LD problem. We know that pair works well together.

Schneider for JT Miller has been the hold up for about 3 years. I don’t see that happening now. Lafreniere is the guy i could see being on the table but not for JT I wouldn’t think. You cant hesitate if Canucks really want to move EP

We also don't know what Drury's stance on development was when NYR won ping pong ball twins and drafted Kakko and Laf. Maybe he was pounding his fist on the table to have both spend time in Hartford, but was overruled. Cuylle and Berard have both developed nicely under his watch and have been two of our more effective players during this disastrous stretch. I'm sure he'll make Perreault spend time in the A. I'd be in favor of it. Othmann has been marinating. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him have an impact when he gets the call. 1C's don't grow on trees. I'd move mountains to acquire EP.

I like the majority of what Drury has done as a GM (FIGHT ME) but his whiffs are really bad.

1) Igor deal is objectively terrible for lots of reasons well covered
2) Paying 2 2nds to get rid of Nemeth was giving away like 200c on the dollar, he only made $2.5M/2 yrs.
3) Paying a 2nd to ditch Marc Staal was similarly jaw droppingly stupid when that 20-21 team was never going anywhere ever. I have no idea what they did with that $5M. (this is Gorton but he wears this).

I don't consider the Buch trade a whiff in that I get the thought process, it just spectacularly flamed out. Process over results.

Zibanejad + Schneider

Miller + Willander

We have Emery and Mancini in the mix now, it's a risk but we'd be alright. I wouldn't move Lafreniere at all unless Pettersson is involved.

this is basically the only way i'd want JTM. but Vancouver probably declines this.

Staal trade was Gorton but yes it was stupid as were the other moves.

They really need a RHD like Schneider. They are also in a similar boat as us. A core that isnt good enough and its starting to spill over into the room. I think they'd be open to dealing a prospect.

Emery and Mancini are 3rd pairing guys. MAAAAYBE 4D ceiling for Emery, but neither is Jaccob Slavin level defensively to overcome their inability to move the puck at an NHL level.

I don't get the Emery pick, the only way I take that kind of skillset is with 100% lock guarantee he makes the NHL. If you wanna tell me they get a gtd 10 years of NHL play out of the 30th pick on the 3rd pairing, fine. Anything less than that he's just not good enough.

But he doesn't really seem to have upside beyond that. It's a lot of capital to invest in a pretty weak best case scenario.

My man, it's the big picture that counts. And I gonna go on something here, that is by no means a stretch:

Anybody and they grandmama could have waived Goodrow, and traded Trouba for an underwhelming return.
Idk if my grandmama waived goodrow it would be the single most shocking thing to happen in my life.

People are going a bit insane when the miller stuff.

The more reputable people seem to think he’s going to end up else where if he ends up moving at all
I think he's going to Columbus. Fits JDs MO. Gets him home. Cbus wants to speed up their timeline. Not paying Severson, Provorov, Monahan, Gudbrandson, etc. just to be 13th in the conference every year.
