Did Kovalev have a motor? I recall him having a 5 minute shift
The infamous shift where Keenan tried to teach him a lesson. :D

Kovy was young back so he probably did have good stamina when younger. Some guys stay out a long time not because they have a never ending motor but because they are gliding all over the place. 🙁

It's easier when both goalies are still young or not committed to long term. Igor has 8 years coming. Any young goalie in the Rangers organization knows if they want to be a #1, they have do it outside the organization.

Garand has shown he can be great in the AHL after 2.5/3 years. It could be the same in the NHL.

More importantly, if he has good numbers, a team will want him.
He'll need at minimum whenever he is called up this year and all of his next contract to prove it. Then they can start dangling him or leave it alone.

Can you clarify what motor is here? The ability to skate through people? Through checks? All of this at speed? or from a stand still? Anything to do with acceleration? What's the relationship between motor and speed?

None of the above. Motor is basically drive and rate of work. Never talking a shift off. The innate motivation that doesn’t require a good coach or special incentives to just play balls out hockey.

You don’t have to be fast to have a high motor, though lots of guys who are described that way are at least “quick” because they’re always going 90-100%. But you could probably have called Pavelski high motor. Maybe even Zucc to an extent. Neither Tkachuk is really fast, but they play very hard almost all of the time. Their average game looks like 110% from a lot of our guys. Matt’s playoffs are like the tale of Achilles to our roster.

Compare the perceived “effort” levels of the following, since we were their last stop before the Cup:

Barkov - Zibanejad (last year’s version)
Tkachuk - Kreider (the net front leader types)
Bennett - Trochek
Reinhart - Panarin
Verhaege - Laf
Luotsarainen - Kakko
Lundell - Chytil
Forsling - Fox
Ekblad - Trouba
Montour - Miller

Not saying every guy on Florida has a world class motor, but Zib, Trochek and Panarin out producing Barkov, Bennett and Reinhart or Fox blowing their whole blue line away, we still lose the comparison in almost every instance. Trochek, Panarin, maybe last year’s Laf can make arguments for a draw. In almost every instance, our team has a lot less “battle” in them. Motor is just consistently wanting it, regardless of who the coach is or whether a friend gets traded, or the team chef burnt your tofu.

if he plays until he's 35 at the same ppg rate or even a little less? absolutely. he already has more 70 point seasons than Zubov.
Not a chance.

Zubov would chain smoke between periods (literally) as he played 25 mins a night, and in today's game would have broken 100 points a season a couple times.

Comparing the game and point production of today to zubov's time is silly to say the least.

if he doesn't fall off anytime soon? Guaranteed. His first 5 seasons are HoF esque

Agree to disagree, he already has fallen off and as he ages his lack of physical gifts will show more and more. He might get his number retired if he stays here another 10 years, but hof would floor me

I love all of these Kreider to Dallas proposals but who the f*** wants Kreider this year? The dude looks cooked.

I am preparing myself to be very underwhelmed by whatever we get back in any trade.
Jim Nill loves Krieder, tried to get him what 2-3 years ago for Robertson and a 1st. Krieder has had some good seasons since then and they really miss Pavelski in front of the net. It’s a good place and club so I doubt they are on CKs MNTC list. They also can take his full cap hit and have some interesting young pieces like Bischel. I think it’s very workable.

Motor is basically stamina. A guy that keeps hustling 100% after other guys tire or give less than 100%.
It's not just stamina, it's a willingness and mentality that they are going to out battle their opponent on each play.

Jed ortmeyer was an awful player with basically no hockey skills, but he had a work ethic and motor that earned him an NHL career and very seriously had him put on lines at times he had no business being on simply because certain coaches wanted his work ethic and competitiveness on lines to offset the lack of hustle of other players (messier 2.0 for instance). Kris draper is another guy that basically had limited skill but worked his ass off to make a difference.

Motor players push the game and then it's up to teammates to join or not. In some ways Trocheck is that for the rangers but I've said all year he looks tired from last season. It was by far the most number of games and minutes per game he has played in his career (except when he was 24 years old), along with the shortest summer of his career.

The reasons you outlined are exactly why Dallas would be on his list. If you want to stat where you are then you don't waste your ntc spots on teams that you know are not going to be looking for you, you do what trouba did and use your slots on the teams you think might actually want you.

I would be doing anything to get hoglander from Vancouver. He has a motor, plays like a rat and has a lot of skill. Not in Tocchet good graces

The relationship is fractured currently, but yeah, CK wants to stay where he's not wanted.

The protection is to ensure you go to a destination that you are comfortable with.

Not sure CK blocks a deal to Dallas.

Can we see Adam Edstrom play in the middle? Can he handle playing center in the NHL? Develop him more. Can he play on the PK? Florida found Stenlund in the AHL and he played a key role for them last season. Bill Zito knew Stenlund from Columbus. Utah gave Stenlund $2M AAV in the summer. 2 years. Edstrom has great size at 6-7 230 pounds. He does have ability. Skates well for a big guy. He has previously played in the middle. He would be a big asset with his size centering the 4th line contributing on the PK.

Jonathan Quick. He was terrific last season. He was very good early this season. He hasn't been so good recently. The Rangers have been a dumpster fire and they can't defend at all. The first goal given up to Hughes was awful. Short side. Quick has a 20 team NTC list. The Rangers should look at Dylan Garand as their back up goalie for next season. Garand's ELC expires after this season and his waiver exemption is over. Garand is the odds on favorite to be the backup next season. The Rangers should give Garand some games in the NHL. You don't want to ruin his confidence playing behind this group. Let's see him in the NHL. I would be honest with Quick. We are planning to give your starts to Garand. We like Garand and he will probably be our backup to Igor next season. Do you want to be traded to a contender? He has the 20 team list. Carolina, Toronto and Dallas. Carolina and Toronto have injury situations. Dallas has DeSmith as their backup. Maybe something develops in another situation. We appreciate your contributions to the Rangers. It's time to move on. 4th round pick.

He can't block a trade to every team. I would play hardball with him to open up the list.. Waivers is an option. You can join your buddy Trouba in Anaheim since you love him so much. Kreider was too emotional to talk about the Trouba situation. These guys are pampered and soft. 8th graders. EF always says you can't write your ending. It's that way in his business. Look at Marek. It's the same way in the NHL. Time to go Chris.

Edstrom is the exact tiype of player that Florida turns into a demon in their bottom 6. Luotsarainen, Lundell, Stenlund as you said. These guys kill us constantly. Id have Edstrom in the middle working with Peca on faceoffs and defensive positioning after every practice. And stop passing up on hits. You're 6'8.

Oh yeah.... fug this brain dead idiot, boycott his sorry ass for this drivel...

If you listen to bern and give Rempe pro mins full time, accept growing pains to = development realized, he will get there sooner than later [or possibly not at all if we continue to stupidy sabotage his development/career].

Do you think fox is a Hall of famer?

The Norris trophy is pretty determinant of if a player's getting into the HOF. Among eligible players (not active, and has been more than 5 years since they retired), Randy Carlyle is the only Norris winner who isn't in the HOF. And Fox already has more finishes as a Norris finalist and more post-season All Stars than Carlyle had in his career.

at this pt still hoping to trade Shesty, he will want to get off sinking ship instead of wait for us to reverse, and go now to ascending LAK.

Garand will not get top top top $$$$ for us until he has an extensive resume which will not happen when he is behind Shesty

can we sell Garand? certainly. can we get enuf profit to make it worthwhile? no
can we keep him forever as second fiddle, underworked, no

only rational approach here is to sell high on Igor, pref w/his consent and give time to Quick/Garand/Domingue

"More than you can afford, pal!"

Actual Cap Hit (Basically buyout-proof)

View attachment 950956View attachment 950957

We save 666k a year. (Holy shit, is Mika the Devil?)
Then we pay 333k (Religion, again... guess this is our time to shine) for 5 years after his contract would have expired.
At this point just send him home (sit him if you can’t tell him to just go home due to the NMC) and eat the full cap hit for the lesser number of years. I bet he’d waive his NMC and go somewhere else.
