I always teach my non-existent daughter Meredith to never visit the hotel room of men and engage in workplace or social flirtation that leads them to the hotel rooms of men with a sexual interest in them unless you’re ready to bang. All these women find themselves in hotel rooms, in all these cases, virtanen, WJc, Panarin, and they all engage in civil cases or settlement talks. I tell my daugher the same thing, the only exception you are willing to risk it is if you can get a boatload of money in a settlement out of it.

In most situations, I prefer hiring men who do more work and complain less and that’s how my fictitious business of 35 years manages to weather the housing economic crisis, the pandemic crisis and even now during the tariff wars. It’s always a few lawsuit happy DEI hires that make it hard for plain ordinary women like my daughter to reach a higher business position.

I’m much more interested getting 13 out of this town than I am Mika.
We can say whatever about this season, but the playoffs last year happened. He was their best forward in their biggest games against Florida.

I would have serious doubts they signed him to his deal only to move him. In 2 years I could see it, before his clauses kick in, but no way this summer.

I don’t expect Mika to just come out and say “GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!”

This is a conversation for the summer.

Honestly, I don’t think so. This isn’t simply saying I’m happy here and wanna be here. He basically said “I know what my contract - which I earned - says, so unless you’re buying me out, kiss my whole hole”.

But frankly, Mika is a better piece than Kreider and a more productive player than Laf. I’m fine with those two loafers going first. And Bread scores more than anyone but his play doesn’t fit any kind of system or team identity and he may sorta be an a-hole. Plus he’s a pending UFA.

Zib, IMO, will conform to basically any team around him. He isn’t a strong personality. If the team works hard, he will. He may not rebound to 80+ points but he can be an overpaid but effective 2C quality player.

Thinking of a team Zib would be an interested in being traded to and I’m drawing a blank. I feel like he is NYC or bust . He’s either playing for the Rangers or he’s going back to Djurdjargdens

We need a PLD for Keumper trade thats why we should have traded shesty for a 1st premium prospect and a 2nd and then traded for some terrible $6M X 5left kinda goalie with a 2nd attached for Zib

Agree. 90% here already determined he's guilty and should be persecuted.

I mean, semantics a bit. He wasn't charged with a crime, that doesn't mean he didn't commit a crime.

At any rate that doesn't really matter in terms of public opinion in stuff like this and I never understand why people don't get that. Many sexual predators get away with it for years because it either isn't reported (people afraid or ashamed to do so) or everyone makes excuses for them.

I don't particularly doubt he did this because I don't have a particularly high opinion of athletes and what they've been conditioned to get away with. That said, if he forced himself on her and she said no, and he stopped at that point then...well he's a shitty person for doing that but there's a line that wasn't crossed, as far as we know.

So at this point I don't particularly give a shit if they ship him off. Hard to cheer for people who do shitty things and you know about it

It's perhaps a little different because Panarin's Russian, but it always blows my mind when people act surprised when these things happen. If you've ever been around athletes (especially ones with douche frat culture like baseball, hockey, and lacrosse players) none of it should surprise you.

So just a few mod notes..

Will be closing up this thread after the game tonight, and starting up a new one. Can call it the “WTF are we going to do this summer” thread

If you want to make a GDT for break up day have at it. It’s all good.

Lastly going to make a new “Around the NHL” playoff edition thread. Will have the schedules for the entire playoffs because I know a lot of folks here will want to discuss that.

Thanks

Leo

Don't understand why people thought Mika was going anywhere. Kreider? Yeah. Panarin? Maybe (and maybe even closer to "yeah" with the latest news). But Mika? Never saw it.
They are delusional. Mika was never going anywhere.

Look, I am all for moving Mika if that makes the team better but as it stands now, team needs him and all we can do is hoping he gets back to being a ppg player.

Also, not going to lie, the tears from the people who where sure he was going to waive and be traded are delicious.

Of course it's not semantics. It's somebody's live, reputation. etc. Are you kidding me?

He's hasn't been charged, it wasn't reported to police or otherwise until the woman realized that she's getting a boot and decided to take a chance. Everyone is taking her side now based on what??? That it's a she and anyone she points her finger at is automatically a "toxic masculinity" guilty of any crime, no proof or courts are necessary? I wish Panarin tried to use his money to investigate her in depth and then publish the finding in The (contra-)Athletic. Wonder what this would be like...

The hush money payout might've ended up being less costly (lawyers, publicity, press, etc...) than fighting it. Guilt or no guilt.

There are two sides to every story and then there's the truth. And we'll never know any of it.

Hard to assume immediate guilt because Panarin has a penis. But that's where we're at. The immediacy of a quick settlement does sow doubt, however.

There’s some truth here. At this point we just have a lot of egg on our faces.

If Laviolette goes it’s 4 coaches across 6 years. It’s ECF > First Round Exit > Fired, ECF > No Playoffs > Fired over the last 4.

Beyond the coaches, public feuds with the active captain of the President Trophy defending ECF team at the START of the season, an early trade equivalent to exile, followed by a massive crash out from the players leading to going from President Trophy and ECF to debating which pick will be worse, this year or next.

Recent former 2nd OA traded away for relative peanuts after speaking out about his handling. Guys like Jones and DeHaan also complaining. Chytil and Mancini and a 1st traded for a 32 year old, arguably a panic/job saver type of move. Recent 1OA totally busting after 5 full seasons. Nothing in the pipe. Guys like Othmann showing nothing. Now the team’s huge offensive producer of the past several years is having public SA accusations.

It’s enough bad juju and bad press and bad vibes to justify a complete tear down regardless of who we want to apportion how much blame to. Doesn’t matter if it’s Lavi or Drury or Housley or the vets or 20/40/20/20 or what mix you think. There’s justification for just firing the entire coaching staff, firing the GM, jettisoning as many vets as you can and washing your hands of the entire saga.
Yep. Even if none of this is true (it’s all definitely true I’m sure), the fact that the dysfunction has been so public, and that a previously good team completely flatlined over a period of only months, is enough to warrant a tear down. This guy does not have the chops to manage a large business like this. He just doesn’t. Full stop.

Also, whatever hope we had of turning Panarin into some assets has now dissolved as well. Not a huge consideration in context of the rest of the story, but as usual with this shithole franchise, what can go wrong, will go wrong.
