Drury was ready to trade Kreider in November, and it was made quite public. He swung a good deal for Trouba in a similar circumstance. Seems like no one was interested in Kreider at that level. His value would be higher if he played better. he had plenty of opportunities to do so. Im ready to move on from drury but he handled this Kreider situation about as well as could be expected.

A) According to who? And why didn't he trade Kreider in November then? You're telling me that we wouldn't have netted a nice haul in November for trading Kreider after his playoff run a few months earlier?

B) Drury f***ed up the Trouba to Red Wings deal, so he had to settle for less when sending him to Anaheim. The only good part of the deal was not retaining on Trouba's contract. The return was nothing to write home about and the Detroit trade would've likely been better had Uncle Larry not leaked it.

C) I'm sorry, but I don't believe for one second that no team wanted Kreider in November. Not for one second. After the season he was coming off of? No way. Fast forward a few months and we're not going to see much of a haul for Kreider now!

This team needs rabies

You're making a lot of assumptions here, we can just agree to disagree.

That article about red is beyond alarming. The fact the team covered it all season is also borderline disgusting. If they had even a remote backbone they would have pursued terminating his contract. Good luck with any thought to getting this guy to wave this summer for a trade, and even more of a bullshit to this situation is the fact that people have been talking about the rangers resigning him the summer for an extension. Even Brooks brought it up in the podcast a couple weeks ago. There's no way that they can resign him. absolutely disgusting.
And this is just another stain on the entire core and the locker room with bullshit about how they think that they can just do whatever the f*** they want. They do it on the ice, they do it in the locker room, now apparently they do it in a hotel rooms. There's just absolutely no accountability to anybody with the players
Relax white knight. You have zero details about this story.

The team defense also needs to be several exponents better. No goalie would have good numbers playing behind this structure and players.

HD Save % and Goals Saved Above expected adjusts for team defense.

Laf got paid, his #s went to shit, and everyone is up in arms about it. His character & work ethic are getting dragged, etc.

Igor did the exact same thing and, not a peep.

Personally, I think you throw out a lot of the tape from this season. You have to start with the high paid aging vets, and go from there.

How is Kreider's value going to be better in the offseason than it would've been a few months ago? He's coming off a terrible season and we now know he's disgruntled.
Because he's injured jesus christ. This isn't hard to comprehend. You also will have way more teams vying for his services in the offseason.

Probably the hugely rising cap makes him inherently more attractive

All I can think of

What did Brooks write about Miller's contract? People say there will be offer sheets this summer. If teams are interested in offer sheeting him and willing to give up a 1st and 3rd or a 1st, 2nd and 3rd as compensation, the Rangers should take the picks and move on. If it's one of the middling teams, the first round pick will be a quality pick in a very good draft. Calgary was interested in Philip Broberg last summer. They wanted to offer sheet Dylan Holloway and Broberg but the Blues got the deals done. The Flames have tons of cap space. Will the Flames an upper limit team? No but they will have money and there is a need to improve their left side. The Flames have all of their own picks in 2026. Two first round picks in 2026. Vegas pick from Hanifin trade. They could give up their first round pick in 2026 and still another first round pick from Vegas. Would Miller want to play in Calgary? Would he sign a 6 or 7 year contract worth $6.5M-$7M AAV to play in Calgary? Before this season, Arthur Staple was mentioning some crazy numbers with Miller. $7M. $8M. I know Staple is not very smart but the Rangers would be fools to pay that money even with the cap being $104M In two years.

Can the Rangers win with him? It's not about the Rangers have no one else at that spot. Is Miller worth the money? Is he a core guy?

These comments are a concern.

Two more years take him to group III. The Rangers can't allow him to walk to free agency. It doesn't sound like Miller wants to extend long-term here.

Calgary missed the playoffs this season. Next season is a question mark. The Flames haven't made the playoffs since the 2021-22 season. The Calgary 2026 first round pick could be a lottery pick assuming Drury doesn't trade it for a rental.

The Soucy trade and Vaak contract extension were weird moves. Unless Drury is preparing for Miller's exit and the other two guys give him options. Not great options but Miller isn't always a great option either.
IIRC, the only players who have signed offer sheets have been non-arbitration eligible.

Arbitration eligible players have a very small window in which they can sign an offer sheet.

So someone here said Kreider didn't have a market in November, but he'll have a market in the summer coming off a shitty season where he's disgruntled. How does that make any sense?

The rising salary cap news didnt come until later and often teams arent making major trades for guys on longer term contracts mid-season.

Fair enough.

I understand where you're coming from on that, and trying to be realistic, I get it.

They still shouldn't have extended him and I'm going to choose violence.

Would I be upset if they traded him? No.

Would a less expensive tandem like Thompson/Lindgren have had better numbers than playing in front of this team all year? Also no.

A) Drury listed him by name in the league memo saying players were available. Teams did not have a lot of cap space then so he probably would’ve had to take a contract back.

B) 100% drury overplayed his hand, tho we have no idea what Detroit was willing to give up for trouba might’ve been a similar deal or if we get a better player than uhro we prob were taking a contract back with it.

C) NHL gms almost always trade for a what a guy has done not just what he’s done lately. I’m sure some team will look at his past few years and think this season was a blip especially with all the drama surrounding the team. Sure maybe you won’t get a 1st and a top prospect like a few years ago but also wouldn’t be surprised at a good pick, a good prospect. I could even see someone like Detroit doing wallinder, Rasmussen & Gus. A 30pt 3c, a prospect who was once highly touted but is a bit stagnant & a cap dump.
