Is it a major embarrassment for every team that doesn't have a D man announced to team USA, or just the Rangers? Seems there may be quite a bit of embarrassment across the league...
A top 3 D man in the league not making the team. There are many Rangers fan who believe Fox is a top 3 D man in the NHL. How can a top 3 D not make an Olympic team? Best on best?

But you've already told us he's nowhere near top 3, so where's the embarrassment coming from?

Cut to December when he makes it easily.

Anyway there are a ton of assumptions here.
Assumptions? Slavin. Hughes. Werenski. Hutson. Sanderson. McAvoy. Faber. That's 7 right there. Maybe Hanifin. Maybe Luke Hughes. Maybe Jackson Lacombe.

We will see. Fox is one of the biggest disappointments this season. He has that constipated look on his face. Come on. If Fox played for one of the Rangers biggest rivals, we would be all over him after his performance in the last full calendar year. He can't defend a 2 on 1. He tries a spin-o-rama while the Rangers are short handed and TB comes the other way to score. The Rangers PP is 27th overall. His performance in the 4 Nations was dreadful. There is a disconnect in reality when evaluating Fox and the other D in the NHL.

What? Nearly everyone on this board thinks Fox is a top 3. His performance has been dreadful and it's never his fault.
Oh, you'd find it embarrassing.
Sorry, I thought you were saying either Fox, or the Rangers fanbase as a whole, would be embarrassed (which would obviously be a bit weird).
As you were

Okay.

You're assuming that at worst, things continue as they do for him or get even worse from year to year.

I'm here to tell you that over the larger sample size (aka the 2024-25 season) most of those guys have performed worse. Both Faber and Hughes have been legitimately bad for half of the season (more than half in L.Hughes' case.) Lacombe has been a monster this year, no argument there, but theres no real guarantee that it carries over into next year.

Same goes for Hutson who likely gets passed over because he's tiny and actually doesn't defend well.

I don't think you're objectively looking at the other D in the league either. None of those guys are mistake free and most of them can't hold Fox's jock even in a "down" year where his team sucks.

What’s Boston looking to do?

Are they going into rebuild mode or re tooling? If it’s the latter, that’s a potential spot for Zibanejad (Kreider too.)

If not? There’s really no reason for them to even look in our direction.
With Pasta, Lindholm, a good goal tender and some big names on D, I suspect it’s a re-tool, but I imagine they’ll want to get younger.

Luke Hughes at times makes Adam Fox look like Nick Lidstrom if you're talking about defensive play

I don't think Mika will be hard to trade, I think his nmc will not allow them to do it. Kreider might have some conditional stuff in his trade, but both guys should bring back some decent stuff. I think it's pretty obvious this year was an anomaly for Kreider, a guy that keeps himself fit and relatively healthy
I think they’ll go to Mika and say, give me 3 teams you’ll accept a trade to, and we will make it work. He’s probably so stressed out he can’t wait to leave. Playing with J.T. can’t be helping his blood pressure either.

Kreider may be harder to get rid of than you think. If he has a physical problem, there might be surgery. If he has a physical problem, but elects not to have surgery, will teams be hesitant to take a guy who can’t/won’t play physical, and may get hurt again. Plus, he may have his agent put out to teams that if you trade for him, he will elect to have surgery.

There aren't any quick fixes or shortcuts available to the Rangers.

I am not picking on Adam Fox again. He isn't making the U.S. Olympic team next winter. The rosters are due by December 31. Unless there is a drastic improvement in his game, Fox will not be on that team and it will be a major embarrassment.

Lane Hutson will be on the team. Calder Trophy winner this season. Jackson Lacombe will be in the mix. Luke Hughes has had a very good 2nd half.

Quinn Hughes. Zack Werenski. Hutson. The U.S. doesn't need anymore PP guys.

Charlie McAvoy and Brock Faber will be on the team. Jaccob Slavin will definitely be in the team. Jacob Sanderson will be on the team. Another young emerging D. Sanderson had a bigger role on the 4 nations team by the end of the tournament.

Luke Hughes? Bahahaha. Talk about not needing another powerplay guy. Luke Hughes is a defensive disaster. The only way he makes that team is if the Devils pick the roster.
We’ll see who gets picked, and Fox having a subpar (for him) year, recovering from a knee injury, MAY cost him his spot. That’s fair. And not a huge deal. But he still scored 56 points in 69 games (about 30% more than Luke Hughes) while being one of the best defensively (certainly head and shoulders over LH). That’s just nuts.

By having an “off” year while recovering from a knee injury? Why is this such an embarrassment? Makes zero sense.

From what I’ve seen of Luke Hughes, I agree he is overrated.

He’s young and will get probably get better, and it’s not too late for him to become defensively responsible, but to say he beats out Fox? Now? His one forte didn’t come close to Fox’s scoring in an off year for Fox. That’s just insane.

The fact that Faber is a lock is hilarious. Good luck USA hockey.

I will bet you that he makes it. Loser deletes his account?

I am a Fox fan and wouldn’t think about moving him unless the return was substantial. For me personally everyone is tradable to build a winning team. He needs a legit partner to support him, a Ryan McDonagh type, oops. Luke Hughes won’t be 22 until September and has 40+ pts in his 1st 2 seasons as a 20 & 21 yr old. He is 6’ 2” 200 lbs and is one of the best skaters in the league already. His defense has a long way to go but there is A LOT of runway. Won’t find many Devils fans that would trade Hughes for Fox.
