Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

Ryan Martin was a finalist for a few GM jobs. Anaheim. San Jose. Pittsburgh. He is more qualified to be a GM than Drury was in 2021. Drury moves up to president of hockey operations and Martin takes over the GM duties. Martin is a qualified guy and he should have being associated with Drury held against him. Martin knows how to navigate the salary cap. Martin was a player agent working for Kurt Overhardt prior to joining the Red Wings front office as a hockey administrator with the cap being his main responsibility. His portfolio expanded over the years in Detroit. Martin has been the Rangers AGM since 2021.

Bill Zito owned his own sports agency Acme Sports and then worked for Columbus as their cap guy/AGM. Nobody had him as the next great GM before going to Florida. Martin has a similar resume.

I don't disagree that Martin would be qualified for the job. At the very least, he wouldn't be another retread a la Ken Holland, Peter Chiarelli, etc.

But for me, I'd prefer to bring someone in with zero organizational ties after Drury. This organization desperately needs a new voice and a new approach.

Laf absolutely gets you Peterka, Laf is locked in for 7 yrs. Peterka is RFA and Buf reportedly will have trouble signing him. There are multiple deal options for Buf and NYR to make. I would not be surprised at all if we make a deal with them around the draft. Peterka and Byram are both RFA’s that Buf are possibly looking to move. They have Dahlin and Power looked up long term on the left side D. I’d imagine both Power and Byram will be available.

I mean, it's not far from the truth.

Anything other than "Kreider did his best and then got old" is looking for spiritual solutions to material problems.

Not saying I want the Rangers to sign Marner, but the amount of disrespect that guy gets is ridiculous.

I mean maybe he did break his back thst one game. Bc he was invisible the rest of the playoffs.

And he was 5th on the team in scoring. Yes he was awesome that one game, but other players were better the rest of the series and playoffs.

Trocheck really carried us through the playoffs last year. 20 pts and was our leader. Laff also had more points than kreider, and was much better in the ECF.

But yeah, lets compare kreider to messier who did the guarantee in in the ECF and then went on to have 7pts in 7games in the stanly cup. Did kreider even have a point in the ECF?

Drury should not have a role with the organization and the NYR should start fresh. The stink is on the entire FO.

The rebuild failed because Anderson, Kravtsov, Laff, Chytl, Kakko, even Miller all failed to varying degrees. If Laff and Kakko are anywhere near their draft status, this team is a juggernaut because all Drury (or Gorton) would have had to do was upgrade the D instead trying to patch holes in the forward lineup every offseason.

This is just dumb. The guy has been involved in almost every big goal the team scored in the playoffs since he's been here.
