Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

In 2016, Rangers traded McIlrath to FLA for Steve Kampfer and a conditional 7th round pick in 2018. No one of note was really drafted in that 7th round unless you really stan for Riley Smith.

In 2018, Rangers trade Kampfer, a 2019 4th round pick, and a conditional 7th round pick to BOS for Adam McQuaid. That 4th rounder eventually went to Carolina who drafted a Cade Webber.

McQuaid was traded in 2019 to CBJ for Julius Bergman, and a 4th and 7th rounder. That 4th rounder turned into Hunter Skinner and the 7th turned into Eric Ciccolini. Bergman never played in an NHL game and signed in Sweden after 10 games with Hartford.

Slat was not a yes man to Dolan. In fact, he was the only f***ing person in this entire organization who could say no to him. Dolan idolized Sather, and Slats took advantage of that to make sure Dolan's grimy hands were kept away from the team and the culture. Say what you will about Slats as a GM (I've criticized him plenty over the last 25 years) but he's the single biggest reason why we were able to build a solid culture across players, staff, and front office from 05 until ~2020. The moment Slats left and the moment Dolan jettisoned JD and Gorton to put that snake Drury in charge is the moment this organization got turned upside down.
its not upside down...he did a quick good turnaround in season. The problem is Dolan gets 10 million per playoff game...will Drury have to answer?

It's not upside down? The players are not allowed to socialize with staff. Drury does not speak with any of the players. He barely speaks with Lavi. Nobody is happy within the walls of MSG. Nobody wants to be here anymore.

No denying - the moves on paper to get rid of Trouba and Goodrow are fantastic. The way Drury did it (never speaking with either player, letting it be known to other GMs and indirectly the media that he wants to complete turn over the roster and has no faith in his current players, etc.) is inexcusable and a perfect way to destory any goodwill, comraderie, and culture.

These are strong statements...how may I ask that you are privy to such matters?

I mean, you need warm bodies to eat minutes and get to the cap floor. That's all I can say about that.
for a high first and our best d prospect? That's a tough way to achieve that if we are planning to not care about making playoffs next year.

Fox has had garbage d partners 5 on 5 for sure but doesn't excuse the fact he is a zero threat on the pp now.
He can't shoot, his mobility is questionable I think K' Andre had better looks from the point in the 30 sec of pp time he had today than Fox has had in quite a while.

Totally down to clean house with Drury and Lavi at this point but the players being let off the hook because they were “disrespected” or some shit I’d never something I’ll do. Literal millionaires.
Getting rid of Drury and Laviolette has nothing to do with letting players off the hook. You get rid of Drury because you can’t trust him to replace those players properly and you can let a lame duck GM hire a coach

We need Anaheim to win in OT/SO vs Vancouver, Columbus to beat Toronto, Montreal to beat Philly, Utah to beat Winnipeg, and Calgary to beat Vegas.

Here's something that someone needs to explain to me:

Drury was an abject failure as a captain and a complete bust as a free agent signing. I mean let's face it, he basically stole money from Dolan.

Now, why would you hire someone like that to be an executive in your organization? I understand that you can separate someone from his playing days and it's not like we hired him to be a player, but what kind of patsy hires someone who essentially stole money to a position of power? Oh yeah, the same guy who hired Isiah Thomas and paid off his accuser.

This isn't Joe Sakic. This isn't Rob Blake. Hell, this isn't even Craig Conroy. This was a complete free agent bust. This is Chris Drury, who was a royal f***up when he was here and was arguably the worst captain in modern time.

The main problem with this team is we have no young centers or d pushing for spots. Vets will play harder if they know a young stud is coming for their job sooner than later.
