Starting now and going into next year maybe:
Laf-Miller-Cuylle/Perreault
Panarin-Tro-Cuylle/Perreault
Who cares
Berard-Carrick-Brod
Rempe/Ed
Miller-Fox
Who cares
Soucy/Vaak-Borgen
I had something similar last night.
10 - 8 - 13
50 - 16 - Perreault
20 - 93 - 22
65 - 29 - 78
That 4th line is actually more of a 3rd line and a bit of a scoring threat. Just balance the minutes a little bit, and I don't think it's a disservice to the kids. You could even swap Carrick and Brodz if the kids are playing well and the BFF's are not. Next season, Rempe and Eds are back on the 4th line and we'll see what holes are created for Otter, and Beebs. We should NOT be trading either of them.
79-23
For the love of all things hockey, can we PLEASE see this for at least half a season? Miller's mistakes are greatly mitigated when the puck is going in the right direction, and it just WORKED. I'm not sure making Key the focal point of a 2nd pair and finding him "his own Lindgren" is the right tactic.
Those two are the only D on the roster that are undeniably better than a "great 3rd pair guy."
I love Schneider, but he hasn't taken that jump from "liking the potential" to "liking the current execution on the ice." Great 3rd pair guy still. Borgen was a pretty good add even though we got terrible trade value. Great 3rd pair guy. I don't mind him as a placeholder on the 2nd pair for if/when Schneids takes that next step.
Vaaks is a great 6/7. Jones still has intriguing talent. They can get scratched for each other and bring different "looks," no prob there.
As for Soucy, I have no idea what to make of him. He could be the rug that ties the room together as a decent 2nd pair guy, or he could be our 3rd 6/7 and wildly overpaid for the role. I can see Drury's vision for his remade D corps, but a lot rides on Soucy. The whole thing has a decent chance of going horribly wrong.
