Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

I heard Sather on 32T's a few months ago when EF and Kyle took on the show on the road. Sather sounded old. Slats is 81. He is not the same guy who gave up the GM duties ten years ago.

I'm sure Dolan has hockey people he consults with, but we don’t know who they are. Back in 2000, Gary Bettman recommended Sather to Dolan, but these days, Gary and Jim hardly speak. OTOH, the NHL did rent the Sphere for the NHL draft.

The rumor that Sather offered (an overpaid) Rozsival and (A guy they were about to cut loose) Zherdev for Dany Heatley (A 28 year old with 180 goals in his last 4 seasons) was one of my favorite rumors because of just how insulting it was. Truly legend status if that's what the deal on the table was.

Slats had a agreed upon trade with one of the owners of Tampa Bay for Stamkos. The GM and other owner stopped it from going through.

Starting now and going into next year maybe:

Laf-Miller-Cuylle/Perreault
Panarin-Tro-Cuylle/Perreault
Who cares
Berard-Carrick-Brod
Rempe/Ed

Miller-Fox
Who cares
Soucy/Vaak-Borgen

They aren't seriously gonna bring up to play with the big club are they?
For what to give him 7 min a game and zero pp time?

Maybe I'm way off, but I feel like Drury is hell bent on making the playoffs. Maybe he's worried about his job if they miss the postseason. I don't know. If he thinks GP can help give them a jolt up front, I don't see why he wouldn't sign him and play him. I get it, burning a year of the ELC doesn't seem smart. I wouldn't do it. But my gut says Drury thinks otherwise.

What's the rule on ELCs? Does Perreault burn a year if he plays a single game?
Yes, he’d be signing his ELC to start this year in that case, which would burn the first year. The way around it is to sign an ATO with Hartford and have his ELC start next year like they’re doing with Noah Laba right now.

There’s no point waiting for Perreault. It’s ok to burn the year

He did make the JT Miller trade with conditions that strongly benefit the Rangers if they make it. It's really on the players lack of heart if we dont make it. There's no hockey reason why we shouldnt comfortably be in a playoff spot right now. The team may not have been a "cup contender" coming in but they were playoff caliber at minimum.

The reasons were not in the playoff position is simply players not playing 100%.

We should be much higher in the standings.

We’ve scored ZERO 6 on 5 goals.

Being this tight in the playoff race, you gotta try and give a prospect like GP a chance. Other teams do it all the time. He's been a top-20 NHL prospect since he was drafted and despite the size concerns he has an ELITE brain.

Right now I could see him being plugged in where Aube-Kubel is at 4RW or Laviolette gluing him to the 3rd line with the two lover vets Kreids/Mika just to get a taste of what Perreault can bring. As much as that pains the fanbase I'm still not expecting immediate production outta Gabe but if his ELITE skill can shine through it will definitely provide a jolt to this entire locker-room.
