Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Never understood the obsession with Torts.

He holds players accountable and is a disciplinarian, which this team desperately needs, but he also manages to alienate or run out of town most of his teams talented players and is extremely hit or miss with younger players.

He is not exactly some huge winner either, guys won 4 playoff series in 20 years since he won the cup with Tampa.
Vancouver fan said something that really rang true. Torts seems to like the idea of coaching but doesn't like the actual job. He has taken off the last weeks of seasons previously. He really should have stayed on TV where people could laugh at the stuff he says. He is like the girl on the dating app that shows hot swimsuit pics from 25 years ago but in person she is not that girl.

Apparently Mike Russo who writes for the Wild for the Athletic says he thinks there's a better than 70% that Rossi gets traded this summer. You want to retool this team for a quick turnaround? That's the guy you go after.
This dude missed his own sister's wedding to train. Rangers could use that level of commitment although I personally think that's a lame thing to do.

Woodcroft has coached one full NHL season with the best player in the world. He is also one of the most meek coaches in the league and represents everything wrong with the Rangers. Wanting him over Torts is absolutely insane

He was pretty instrumental in building the defensive structure of the 2013-2014 team. It just all fell apart so quickly once AV started digging his claws in and the team made pretty much every wrong personnel decision.

While true, Torts isn't really the same coach that he was then. Theres a bunch of reputation BS that has followed him around that doesn't really fit anymore, both good and bad (for instance, he hasn't been 6 goalie Torts since he left NY.)

I don't see the fit really. He isn't the super hard ass that he used to be (because he can't be) and it would be another boring and uninspired hire. Not Laviolette bad, but it'd just be so predictable.

Being a Panarin truther just makes it even more of a no go for me.

I don't care if you're a nerd if your team gets 58% of the scoring chances.
He had prime McDavid, the guy who replaced him who was a rookie coach got to game 7 of the SCF. Aren't the Flyers 6th in the league in xGF despite having a very shitty roster? I think Torts record would be a lot more impressive but he's been with very mediocre teams

Wtf you actually admitted this?

Did you accidentally drink you're uncle's coffee this morning?

I'm favor of Torts but I also think Woodcroft did a good job with the Oilers and he would be on my radar.

The only reason to trade Trocheck is if you think he’s on the cusp of a permanent decline. Otherwise you’re just creating an unnecessary extra massive TOI and multirole hole in the lineup for no good reason

No, but finding a way to get a young, talented top 6 center is about as close as you can get.
As a number of people here have stated (and I concur 100%), one player is not going to tip the scales significantly -- especially with the holes in this lineup.

Yeah, of course not. It would have to be one move of many. But a young, top 6 center is something we don't have on the roster or in the pipeline and would be huge add.
