Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

The guy is likely playing with a broken hand and also, how many times are we going to do this with players playing above their heads? Trochek is paid like a very good 3C. $5.625m is not a lot of money and honestly, if Zibanejad were having a 'normal' season, he'd be the ideal 3C.

If he's got a broken hand he needs to stop playing.

The playoff push is basically dead. Theres no need to stress things even further.

I think the majority of the team is sick of Laviolette, Panarin and Kreider's shit. especially the younger guys. the delusional takes from trocheck and Mika after games probably arent helping either.

They were sick of Gallant and Quinn. Maybe the players are too mentally weak and does not want to do what it takes to win. How many coaches can this core have? What is the record for most coaches with the same 4 core throughout a career? Maybe the players are not coachable anymore since they got paid.

Just keep an eye on the Chiclets podcast over the next couple of years. Someone will go on there and yap, I'd bet money on that.
I think the org bans our players from appearing on Chiclets or something, IIRC Hank is the only player to appear on it while being an active Ranger. Even guys who were previous guests have not made appearances since becoming Rangers, you'd think with all the hype Rempe got and how much Chiclets was talking about him they'd loved to have had him but they never did. I'm certain I remember someone mentioning Rangers not being allowed on it before

Why? But isn’t that a podcast that has a contract with the NHL??? I don’t get why they wouldn’t be allowed

Sick of Quinn, sick of Gallant, sick of AV, sick of Lavi..I'm sick of the players. Get back to playing some actual hockey again.

Like, I get that players aren't robots. But also as a fan, I do not give one singular f*** if they don't like their boss. What I do care about is that they give up on their jobs because they don't like their boss. Shut up and play.

Eager to see how Drury navigates this off-season. He *can* make some big changes, just have to wait and see what he does.

They real coach killers look to be Ovechkin/Carlson/Backstrom who have went through 7 coaches.

I don't know if it's some sort of beef between Dolan and somebody or what, if you just scroll their podcast titles/guest names the lack of Rangers is staggering. You would think Fox, Laf, Rempe would've been on had they been on any other team, a 1OA pick, Norris winner, and overnight celeb who's famous for what Chiclets loves in Rempe. Trocheck is friends with those guys and was on before he was a Ranger but never again since. It's very odd. Sucks cuz it would be entertaining to see them in a less formal setting and get to know their personalities more, especially since the Rangers organization participates in social media/doing fun videos/etc the least of any team in the league int he first place

Ottawa and Columbus are playing three times in the next few weeks. Those points will be distributed in the playoff race. Ottawa lost to Buffalo last night. Those two points for Buffalo are meaningless. In the three Ottawa-Columbus games, those points will factor into the playoff race. The Columbus-Islanders game. Two points for Columbus. One point for the Islanders. I thought Columbus was a near lock after they beat Detroit in back to back games. They have won two games in the last three weeks. Columbus is getting healthier. Boone Jenner returned a few weeks ago. Sean Monahan returned against the Islanders.

San Jose takes Matthew Schaefer

The Rangers select Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit from the Ontario Hockey League

6% chance of that happening ain't great. We almost certainly will end up with some bum in the 11-13 range.

Winning a Cup along the way kind of absolves them though or I would imagine their fans would think so. Say this team won under AV, I don't think anyone here would blink if they cycled through 7 coaches the following season.

I'm sure WSH fans have been pulling out their hair since the Cup run (WSH has either missed POs entirely or haven't made it out of the 1st round since 2018, including last year's 4-0 sweep by NYR), but I wonder if their fans would rather see the team dump coaches when the results aren't there instead of sticking with them for multiple seasons. This season has surely been fun for them between the team doing well and AO's record chase.

These NYR teams have had some deep runs so the last ~10 years haven't been a total failure, but IMO they've fallen short of expectations.

Only way I watch the Rangers again this year is if Perreault draws in for a couple of games. His seven minutes of ice time with Parssinen will be a lot of fun to watch.
get ready just like we knew 93 and Kreider would get pp1 time over JT MIller people are deluisional if they think Gabe is gonna get top 3/6 minutes and fair chance on pp1. Literally no reason to get excited for him to come here this year and even next.

Hayes and Yandle.

They did an episode from Hayes' apartment in NY.

This just shows the players are mentally weak and give up when they don’t get their entitled way. It’s pretty pathetic because they are grownups acting like 12 year olds

It's funny. Weren't people campaigning for him to be captain a year ago?

He's delivering a career avg season, but doesn't have that 20-40 game run of being a PPG player like in other past seasons. I don't think that last year was the last "good season" for him, and his contract isn't bad at all.

I'd keep him. I don't think that's insane.
Those who campaigned for him to be named captain are the same crazy people who wants to give the C to JT Miller now.

Trocheck is a career average 50 point player and should center the 3rd line. Put him there and I wont complain as much.

That's not enough, not near enough. I'd take the letters off the "leaders" and give an A to JT, Carrick and Schneider. Kreider needs to go the F home and heal or retire. Laviolette needs to put the centers at center, JT, Mika, Trochek 1,2,3 C.

I agree that there's a problem with the way they play and it exists among the players.

But when we say things like "oh they sulk when they don't get their way" I have to ask: which coach didn't give them their way??

Quinn's MO is that he adores his vets. He even did it with Jr's and Sr's in college. Gallant is a notorious babysitter who doesn't discipline anybody. Lavi is a zombie.

They haven't had a single coach that challenges them.

I'm not defending the players here but this issue also exists among the coaches they've had and frankly, the GM who keeps enabling it.

If Drury wants to show us anything, start by hiring a coach with standards. It's Drury who coddles the vets by hiring coaches who don't upset the apple cart. It's Drury's team. This is his culture. He enabled it.

I would retain salary to trade him this summer, Im just making fun of the people who think his production is irreplaceable.
I take those responses with a grain of salt....people said the exact same thing when Jagr was on his way out: "Who's going to score 25 goals for us?" -- result: Zherdev came in and scored 25 goals. Bottom line -- everyone is replaceable.

The thing with Panarin is not literally who scores the goals (BTW the answer is nobody, we're not getting a 100 point player this summer).

It's where we're getting a Cup-winning #1 forward from.

You talk about going from Jagr to Zherdev like that isn't a flag so red that the US invaded it.

We're really bad right now and I feel like there's a lot of desire to just recreate what was mediocre.

Building a solid foundation of grinders but then just buying whatever high-end talent doesn't get locked up is what we've done for generations. How many Cups did it win?

Wasn't it Strome who made the comment to the effect that the coach was a problem because he tried to "keep us from playing our way" -- which led to that coach being fired (I think the coach was Quinn).

It is.

Cuylle-Zibanejad-Smith drove the f*** out of quality chances.

Cuylle in particular has basically been a driver of offense. People’s opinions on him change based on whether pucks are going in for him and his line or not. He’s virtually been the same guy all year.
I'm not a big believer in "luck" as the main factor in a change, especially when that change, whether good or bad, coincides with a tangible alteration in other factors. Sorry. Correlation is not causation, but "luck" is about the least tangible, least provable factor going. A new linemate (a legit 1C) and a new position (with less defensive responsibility)? Way more tangible than "luck."
I'm not telling YOU what to believe, but I'm not buying that.

If the Rangers end up with the 10th pick in the draft, they should give up the pick because some people are afraid Pittsburgh will have an unprotected first pick in 2026? Can the Rangers be this bad again next season? They aren't even that bad. Some of these players are not even trying at this point. They are enjoying the Rangers grift for as long as they can. Chris Kreider is just cashing the checks at this point. Mika Zibanejad plays these games with no pulse. He only gets excited when yelling at the officials. One of the Flames players sticked JT Miller in the groin and Mika went crazy. Simon Benoit hit Kreider hard into the boards and Mika lost his mind. Don't you dare touch my man. Get rid of the coach. Hire a better coach than Laviolette. Not Mike Sullivan please. Make major and significant changes in personnel. The Rangers aren't going to tank. The NHL is so mediocre. The Rangers goaltending is too good.
Straight up truth. Except I think Sullivan would be a good hire

This thread reveals to me just how bad laviolette is as a coach. He truly is gallant 2.0. I'm sick of retread coaches

At some point between the draft lottery and the draft. A google search suggested 1 week before the draft, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. The draft lottery is typically held during the playoffs, during or after the 2nd round IIRC. The draft is on June 27th-28th. The cup finals begin on June 9th.

Last year, the SCF ran from June 8th to June 24th. It's possible the Rangers will have to decide before the finals are over. I imagine they want those decisions made in advance of the draft so teams can properly plan.
The answer is 48 hours after the draft order has been set, which is likely the day of the lottery

Sorry, but Panarin cares more about his cookies than he cares about winning. Dude is the epitome of what it means to be a selfish, one-dimensional, high-risk wingers. I'd still rather have him than Mika or Kreider.

Mika was the RW on that line on paper only. Lavi had them alternate playing C in a hybrid role.
