Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

I don't get the fascination with Peca. He's on the staff now and the team eats an entire ass.

It feels like when we got rid of Gorton so his AGM could take over and coddle the same old favorites.
Eh. Peca was a bastard and leader on the ice. Lavi...well, he was a Ham N Egger at best. I'd think he has more cred with the players.

Also, diff perspective, he doesnt seem to be willing to step on Lavi's toe's like Drury did to the guys that gave him a shot at higher managment. Maybe he respects Chain of Command enough to do what he can to his glass ceiling and let Lavi hang himself with his own rope.

There’s basically nothing the Rangers can realistically do over the offseason to transform this team enough to make them a contending team. At this point the only way forward is a severe retool or rebuild. There’s not enough talent coming through the pipeline and the rest of what’s left on the roster isn’t that good, especially after Panarin leaves. There’s Fox, Igor, and a bunch of guys playing in roles they aren’t equipped to handle on a contending team.

This franchise is *whispers* kind of a shithole and I think people confuse "good by our standards" with ideal, or even minimum standards for a contender.

Zibanejad and now JTM are pretty good #1 centers in the grand scheme Rangers history. That's not the solution, that's the problem.

Yes exactly, this applies everywhere. As Nick Zararis points out frequently when it came to replacing Trouba and Lindgren, the goal is not to just improve on them. The goal is to be better than your competitors. Somehow I don’t think Will Borgen and Urho Vaakanainen/Carson Soucy fit that bill.

I mean, I still think this team without all the dreck is gonna be a chore to watch. They're gonna score like 100 goals next year.

But I'm not against it, especially as a plan beyond next year.

I said that going in to this season, if the team would buy in to the gameplan, their ability to dump pucks in, retrieve them and get point thots through to the net should be available. Fox on more than one leg, Miller, Borgen. those guys should be able to move laterally and get the puck on net. They have some reasonable pieces who can play this way when they decide to as well.

I think we will see less 'pretty' goals but I could see the same level of overall offense. Not great. Not horrible.

When I told them "just replace Lindgren with an NHL player" that was at last year's deadline when they were in the midst of -for better or worse- winning 55 games and had limited cap space.

It wasn't supposed to be the 10-year plan.

Borgen basically is Trouba. A bit better with the puck on his stick. Soucys a horse sized Lindgren. Ig it’s not surprising that the team obsessed with Lindgren and Trouba went out and reacquired them

It's interesting, we watch the Rangers so much, it's a shock to see how a really good team plays. LA was impressive last night - they played fast and connected on their passes.

Watching the four nations was a nice reprieve.

Now back with these guys and no one's on the same page, breakouts continually kiboshed with bad passes/receptions, can't really forecheck, & when they do get the puck, half the players like to stop & look around, as if they have all the time in the world.

And still somehow they are in the playoff hunt.

No it’s not surprising in the slightest. Still don’t understand what the rush was to extend Borgen and Vaakanainen either but whatever. Team is trash so it really won’t matter.

The 2023-24 team was one of the most interesting teams I've ever seen.

And not in a good way -they were like crotch rot- but man, what a case study.

I've never seen a team win that much while being that fundamentally bad at pretty much everything.

I was reading about the three-body problem in physics yesterday. It's a whole thing but suffice to say there are things about the universe we still just do not understand that our human math is not capable of solving.

We witnessed that play out on a hockey rink for 98 games last year.

I still hated it but it was cool in a way.

The Rangers need to be studied. This is why Neil deGrasse Tyson shows up at games.

You will get flamed - every time and deservingly - for this type of post clearly intended to deflect blame from Zibanejad to Trocheck) for very obvious reasons.
Deflecting? I genuinly dislike Trocheck this season.

Edit: Removed childish response

I feel sorry for the people still defending Panarin. Stockholm syndrome type shit. You deserve better than empty calorie point production at an exorbitant cost.
2 Hart Trophy level seasons and being the franchise leader in PPG is not enough, we need more J.T. Millers or whatever goofball you would prefer they acquire who couldn’t shine Panarin’s shoes.

Like I've said
Ks are legit concerned, no righty shot RD depth
Doughty, wheels could fall off overnight
they are keeping Clarke, Spence

Schneider is a premium get
ad zib at half = immediate useful RW, depth pivot

throw in Jones, useful depth D playing either side
-----

Byfield
Dvorak = good LD prospect former 1st rounder, already a yr marinating
Helenius = huge add w/Rempe + Edstrom!

DO IT
Except there’s nothing to benefit the Kings. Byfield is the Kopitar replacement and has been out playing him lately. Dvorak is a LD, which the Kings are short on, he’s a no-go. The Kings FO are very high on Helenius, he’s not available.

There is nothing you’re offering that will get the Kings to move off of their young players.

If you were a Kings fan, would you accept that trade? Of course not.
