Sign Tyler johnson to a 1 year, it really can't hurt anything. Worst case scenario he doesn't play, best case scenario he can move around the top 9.

This is my favorite bit of message board psychosis in 20 years in this place. That the 63rd most important guy in the organization was somehow handicapping the basic hockey skills of a professional hockey team via voodoo or blood magik.

50 people on a messageboard cursing some guy they couldn't identify in a police lineup for a million dollars and a massage from Margot Robbie.

His nefarious powers are still at play, they're still terrible at making and receiving passes.

Damn you, Mark Chicago.
i’d identify the zodiac killer for a message from margot robbie

When I look at teams that are in a playoff position or in playoff contention, I get a very short list of VAN, LA, UHC, and CAL.

Here are some goofy trade ideas
(NYR) Kreider + Lindgren for (LA) Turcotte + Greentree + draft pick(s)
  • there are obviously better players on the Kings roster I'd want to target but I think it'd be very far fetched to land those premium targets unless we are getting into even more far fetched Shesterkin proposals.
(NYR) Miller for (UHC) Lamoureux + draft pick(s)
  • I considered Simashev too but no idea when he comes over so without getting a roster player in such a deal, I think it's highly unlikely to make that type of move. Yotes also took Simashev over Michkov so they must be super high on him. Doubtful they'd part with him.
I think we're stuck with Mika. Lavi really should be scratching/benching him until he asks for a trade. And then even then, I think we get bent over to dump him. He'd control the destination and I could see us retaining salary (max of $4.25M for this season and 5 more remaining years). Maybe Drury can get someone to actually pay for a 1/2 price Mika. If you can convince the other GM that he's just under some bad MSG Mojo and they convince themselves they can rejuvinate his career, then maybe something comes of it. But too many factors so I can't imagine anything remotely feasible. Even by fantasy HF standards.

Vesey, Smith, Carrick, Ruhwedel, Borgen. See if we flip them for low round picks that we can maybe use to move up in the draft.

next season, go light, go young (maybe that's where the realism departs the post for wishful thinking)

Panarin-Trocheck-Perrault
Cuylle-Bennett (ufa)-Lafreniere
Berard-Sykora-Othmann
Edstrom-Zibanejad-Rempe

Schneider-Fox
Jones-Lamoureux
Vaakanainen-Mancini

sign McDavid the next summer. Possibly but improbably trade Panarin for Silayev+ or Bichsel+ to replace Vaak. Obviously would love if Mika could get flipped for JTM in some way but see above - that's unlikely. Use draft capital to either get long term improvements to the blueline or for getting some rentals to push in future seasons with a young core.
we should not be defeatist and accept 'stuck w/Mika'.
Don't play-> break him -> deal -> yes eat 4.25 to get it done stop being greedy

we should ask Igor if he'd waive for LA
even tho we don't need permission now but will later
if yes then get a better deal from Kings
Shesty + for Byfield

like the bold
I think I started that one

He's pretty much left the pick cupboard short apart from those firsts you're right, although, this is rapidly going South and depending where we are by the deadline, I think he's going to do something stupid.
Short?
Our best prospect is a top 10 in the nhl according to most sources.
We have 2 defenseman who are nhl projected.
One additional forward who might make it.
For a team that should’ve been a playoff team again, with youth on the roster, that’s a deep prospect pool.

When you have roster spots locked in you don’t need 15 prospects, you need 5-6.

There are valid reasons to shit on Drury.
But his prospect pool isn’t really one of them, nor is his drafting. I wish he’d take centers early but the boards have fallen in a way that we’d have railed at him if he did.

Kreider is going to go the way of Gaborik and Gartner soon.
It is starting to shape up that way . Laf is also not doing much it seems . I was thinking yesterday that we should put Cuylle-Chytil-Berard together as the number one line & Panarin-Tro-Laf at #2 and Edstrom -Mika -Smith #3 line with Kreider-Carrick- Harpur/Brodz/ .....Berard needs much more ice-time .....the kid is a demon on skates . If he can keep going like that he might be eventually our next Captain......works his butt off despite his size . I see a need for Harpur in as a 7th D or fight specialist . We are too vanilla without a guy like him around and we should be young and durable enough to run with 11 forwards most game . Laf -Cuylle-Chytil-Berard -Edstrom should be like rabbits /race horses and relish the extra work.

You know things are bad when most of us can't think of a single, realistic, tangible thing to help this team other than "Fire" and "Sell".

My 14.5 year old Bassethound took a shit on my side of the bed last night. The shape looked like a T and a C.

Trade Chris?

Gorton and Bobrov's drafting was horrendous.

Unfortunately a lot of the story of our top young players over the years has been via trades for prospects (Fox, McDonagh) and auspiscious circumstance related to being the New York Rangers (Hayes, Fox) .

If they trade Perreault or any top draft picks... might just be the end for a lot of us.

The prospect pipeline is also approaching 2017 levels. There's almost nothing left on defense and only a handful of interesting wingers.
It's becoming eerily similar to what happened to the 2017 and beyond teams, but it's still better than that.

Outside of Shesterkin, from the 2014-2016 drafts, the most game played by a skater they drafted was Tim Gettinger.

If you extend it a year each way (2013-2017), you're looking at Buchnevich and Chytil being the guys that got major roles with the Rangers. Duclair was dealt for a year and a half of Yandle. Graves was moved for a nothing player. Andersson was a bust. Morgan Barron is a 4th liner that was traded.

2018 is starting to lose any luster it had with Miller, otherwise it's horrendous. At least 2019 had Kakko, which is a 3rd line NHLer, and Edstrom looks to be an NHL player. Jones is at the minimum a #6/7 defenseman. The 2020 draft is the best thing this team has done in selecting players in a long time.

Outside of the prospects that were traded for, the best thing the Rangers have done is find the right reclamation projects or buy low candidates. Zibanejad was losing his status as a high end pick and Strome was picked up off the scrapheap and was their 2C for longer than anyone could have expected. And signing Panarin was a great move, regardless of the cost.

Well and we have some good looking role players in the pipeline, but with the exception of GP they all project as middle 6 wingers/2nd pairing defensemen at best.

I can see a future where Berard, Cuylle, Othmann, Mancini, Laba, Edstrom, Perreault and others play big roles here. But that's still a team without a game-breaking 1C, and pretty much missing an entire 1st line.
