Them “clearing the decks” suggests to me it’s something in the summer. Whether it be a big trade or a large UFA signing

UFA signing seems more likely given they’re trying to relieve themselves of cap commitments

JT and Brady T are on that shortlist whatever it is. There's not really a top pair defenseman out there that is available, at least not on the surface.

Sigh. This is what I was trying to say that Drury didn't do enough to rebuild the organization in the wake of JD and Gorton being fired, and he has nobody to blame but himself. Vince's article is making organizational turnover seem like a bigger deal than it is, nor is he highlighting what other teams do to paint it in a one-sided light. Yeah, Drury's a dick. We all know that.

Regardless, the optics of this whole Kakko trade have pushed me into the camp of just cleaning house and starting it over. It won't happen, but I don't think he's the right guy for the job. Hire Ryan Hardy as GM. Bring in an experienced PoHO to be his buffer, and actually build a pipeline from management down to the players and team staff on how things should be run. They make too much money to act like a f***ing mickey mouse organization.

Clearing the books just to re-fill the books six months later does sound like a very Rangers thing to do.
You clear the books to acquire some young talent at key positions.

We have talent. We could be a great team without a complete retool.
Trocheck at 3c is a great piece. Chytil as a 2c is very good.

Laf is going to be the type of playoff performer we don’t get from our offensive players usually.

We have a need at center. And at defense to put guys in their correct spots.
Urho might be a top 4 guy if he can stay healthy. But that’s a big if.

We need to move Panarin Ck and Mika.
Those 3 pieces should return more than enough assets for a huge run in 26 and on.

So you can add players in their prime instead of spending it all on 30 year olds.
He's not my favorite, but Brady Tkachuk who has been suggested a number of times is 25 years old. Pettersson is 26. Rantanen is 28 and won't be 29 until next season starts. Kesselring is 24.

The only old guy people are suggesting is Miller and I think that's mostly to do with his discounted value with it being made public that he's unhappy.

Fair enough. My quip was a bit vague. I have no issue with them clearing money to spend it on good, young talent. My issue is I don't have much faith that they will do that. 25 year old core players aren't available on the open market. So I fully expect them to spend the money on FAs who are heading into their 30's.

And those guys are fine. I just don't think the Rangers are going to make the hard choice when the "nothing but money" option is right there. I don't have faith in them to do that.

The only upcoming free agent that's worth a piss is Rantanen, and he's awesome.

Beyond Rantanen, it'll be a slow day.

I don't know who's on the list of free agents that's scaring you.

I'm glad he wanted a defensemen. But going back to 2021'ish, what exactly are we doing here. I may have missed some through-out the years, but majority of these don't address any real flaws.

Edit: I clearly missed Jones signing his ELC, but I probably shouldn't even include those.

Link mot working. Can u post full quote?

Thanks

"Vincent Trocheck asked to speak because he said he wanted to clear the air about a report that the NYR’s closed door meeting after the LA loss was called to complain about Drury.

He said they did have a meeting but “if we're having a closed door meeting with just the players, I think the last thing that we're gonna do is complain about our general manager.”
