There is no reason to give away talent when other teams will pay for it. People let their personal feelings get the best of them and then complain later. Trouba was traded when people said that could never happen. Goody was traded after people said that could never happen. A 25 goal 75 point Zib can definitely be traded imo. No need to cut our nose to spite our face.
otherwise agree, but overriding factor is need to cut the zib cancer NOW
teams do not have a reason to accommodate this and be motivated to acquire immediately
possible exception is VAN to extent they are short while JTM is out
in the circumstances, I can live w/zib at half and we ony get back Raty, Juulsen + cap relief

I mean if it’s for Zibanejad, it’s less money and less term, so yeah I’m doing that.

I’m not a Kaplan fan, but Guentzel significantly raised the ceiling on the Hurricanes last season; and he was the last reason they got eliminated. He made a huge difference - they just got lousy goaltending and couldn’t overcome the Pesce injury. Guentzel was not a bad rental and he would have stayed in Carolina, but he agent took the contract he wanted and got a no state income tax team to match it.

The Rangers absolutely would have had a much better chance against the Panthers with Guentzel. Not saying they win that series, but it’s a whole lot closer
pls stop win now rentals acquiring vets for youth

Is Fowler Amy good at 50 off for Lindgren then Ducks flip him for picks ?
no, beyond cooked
not worth risk getting stuck with

A kreider for Kadri trade makes sense for us but I'm sure they're on the nt list.
no, it doesn't
should not be dealt and if he were for quality youth not a win now vet

Guentzel would have been the right move last season. We would have been MUCH
better off if we paid more for Guentzel than the half measure thing we did with Roslovic and Wennberg.

That been said, I am certainly out on rentals now. Doesn’t make sense now. I’d take an expiring contract to dump bad contracts, but it would be ludicrous to pay assets for a playoff run at this point. But we know what is going to happen here

It's hilarious that Roslovic is putting up numbers in Carolina after Guentzel decided to sign with TBL and we are left with nothing.

I don't see the need to trade Kreider for pieces that the team needs now at all. It's not a lack of depth that is a concern for the Rangers, it's a lack of high end, inexpensive pieces and defensive depth.

I'd do Kreider for Frederic and a 1st

But why not just sign Frederic when he hits UFA and get something else for Kreider?

Trading a 1st+ to watch Guentzel get smothered by Barkov then walk in free agency would’ve been hella fun at least?

People are really overestimating Guentzel if they think he would have looked like he did in Carolina while dragging around the Zibanejad anchor

Frederic is a primo target to get heavily overpaid in UFA. you might be better off trading for him now and extending, if you want

he's fine. wouldn't mind him. he's been pretty strong the last few years.

I mean going from the energy vampires here to getting to play with Aho is quite different. But like Roslovic was actually one of the worst rental players I’ve seen in blue. Don’t think he was great before either. But Carolina has better coaching than us too so who knows

He would have had a better chance than Roslovic. The Rangers brought a butter knife to a gun fight. And Guentzel is good enough that he at least had a chance to elevate Zibanejad and Kreider, rather than just being a third wheel

To play devils advocate

- To dump the Kreider deal
- To add additional assets (not having the report from Isles fan Staples that Frederic is worth more than Kreider
- To check him out to see if he is worth re-signing
- And to have the option to give him a contract before he hits FA if he is working out well

To play devils advocate to your devils advocate:

They could just as easily trade Kreider elsewhere and get other pieces and then sign Frederic in UFA though? Do we think that trading for him would give the Rangers any real leverage in signing him for less? I doubt it.

Every game this continues, is a pointless endeavor.

Someone replied to this tweet suggesting Oleksiak. That's a big hell yes from me. I will drive K'Andre to the airport for a trade like that. 6'7 256 and only 8 PIMs in 30 games. He can play.

Lindgren had the puck last night in the offensive zone with a clear shooting lane and instead skated it down to below the goal line and turned it over. Couldn't f***ing believe what I was watching

He is so awful with the puck on his stick it's a criminal offense and his defense has declined to barely NHL level. He needs to go for literally anything. I'll take past considerations at this point.

That would be a horrible trade.

We can do better.

No chance the rangers should trade miller for oleksiak that would be a complete waste of trade value unless we are getting multiple other pieces as well. Replacing Lindgren? Sure, but not miller.

Past considerations isn't the worst idea.

Oleksiak provide more than Miller, but who would you suggest as a better option. Ive been racking my brain over it tbh.

I don’t think miller is going to return a D.

I’d be looking for a similar situation forward. I doubt Anaheim gives up on Mactavish this quickly, but that’s along the lines of what I’d be looking for.

Or you could just play Miller with Fox. That has worked
