Is this team not exactly where it was when jd and Gorton were let go only we don't have the picks and prospects. Help us tiny baby Jesus in a tuxedo shirt

And just like with Fox, the issue was him being the only decent defensemen.

I was randomly watching highlights of the 2016-17 team the other day. Quite a forward corps.

Nash-Stepan-Vesey
Kreider-Zibanejad-Zuccarello
Miller-Hayes-Grabner

And then your 4th line was some mishmash of Buchnevich, Puempel, Lindberg, Fast, and sometimes Tanner Glass for some reason.

Talent all over the place.

A lot of those guys were on the way down, Stepan chief among them, but that could have been a Cup contender with a decent defense corps. Instead it was McDonagh, a decrepit Kevin Klein, and four guys who shouldn't have been playing NHL minutes at that point.
Matt Puempel!

Truly amazing sequence that is. You are completely dysfunctional to the point of having you two teammates fight, and then end up two man down for the rest of the game.

I mean the fact of the matter is he regularly posts well above average impacts in his on-ice numbers despite lugging around an anchor in Lindgren and playing in the same system everyone else is playing in. It's just the reality of things.
I am so sick of hearing about lindgren. The guy was out for almost a month and fox was just as bad then. People act like fox is elite, he isn't. Elite players don't need excuses, they are the reason their teams are still good. There are plenty of elite players in the league playing with undermanned lineup or less than ideal linemates/partners. It's amazing the excuses people make around here for certain players...

or, maybe, just maybe, you're way off here. just wrong in your assessment and seeing only what you want to see. as an aside, how do you feel about Sandy Koufax?

The defense is awful. Really awful. Fox hasn’t been great, but he can only do so much.

I don't think it's excuses, but we see the potential with a better partner. If Lindgren wasn't drop dead awful without Fox, he'd be that guy or he'd be involved in their future, which he's on the outside looking in.

The other reality we have to understand is that there is currently no better option. Miller is hurt. Jones would be interesting in the offensive zone, but the d zone could be a disaster. Vaak might be okay, but playing 22+ minutes?

I'd say just try Schneider with him. It cannot possibly be worse than Lindgren, and at least you tried. But it looks like he got benched today, or he got hurt. Was working and turned it off halfway through

The Rangers need to purge the roster. It's Christmas. It's Hanukah. It's the holiday season. They decided to scratch Kreider. They could have calmed the waters heading into the break. The Rangers chose violence. Kreider and the rest of the players hated the decision to bench Kreider. I can't tell if their play reflected that decision because the Rangers have been playing disinterested hockey for 7 weeks.

Except for Igor, Lafreniere, Cuylle and Schneider. All of them need to go. I am keeping the Canadian boys. I am surprised Lafreniere didn't lose his mind yesterday. He almost did if that elbow to Seigenthaler's head connected. Lafreniere would have been suspended by hockey X before the game was over. We need more Canadian boys.

Drury needs to methodically dismantle the roster. Go to Ottawa for the WJC. Get face time with the other executives. He needs to make moves to stave off things getting worse.

Adam Fox isn’t elite? Adam Fox should be traded? Stop the f***ing nonsense. He’s the only defenseman in this team worth a damn. Every single other defenseman on the roster with the exception of Miller is literally 3rd pair or AHL garbage but Fox is the issue? Please.
Fox. I see a smaller D who can't defend for shit. In the playoffs, you see the best D playing major minutes and they close down games. 16 playoff wins. Fox has been worn by the 2nd round. He was hurt last season. There always seems to be something wrong with him. In 2022, I remember he hurt his shoulder in a game during the regular season and was never healthy. He missed 4 games. He played better before the injury. The guy has one goal this season. It was an empty net goal. Offensive defenseman. One goal. 34 games. The rest of the team is bad around him. Does that mean he can't score one lousy goal 5 on 5? The Rangers PP is awful. Fox is the QB. He would have benched by now.

It’s why this talk of “rebuilds” is so childish. The Rangers are evaluating the team. Drury has made some dumb moves and handled things with a heavy hand, but in terms of knowing what type of player the team needs, and being willing to give chances to the youth, he’s been consistent.

More moves are coming, I’ve liked the ones he’s made so far. I expect Lindgren and Kreider to be moved before the season is over. And Panarin and Zibanejad will be approached in the summer. We’re going to get younger and more assets by default when these guys are moved. Well most likely get better as well.
I think Lindgren might be OK in a zone defense system as a bottom pairing . In saying that we also could rent him at the deadline and resign him if his UFA price is within reason and recoup a pick . If we are in a rebuild....he is a good veteran to have around for a year or so but definitely not as a part of a man to man unit ....He easily enough could also fetch us another pick the following year if he rebounds in a new system.

What a cluster fvck this organization is right now.

Hope they keep their pick and try to pick up another one or two before the end of the season.
It is indeed . As a long time fan like yourself I have no idea on how they should proceed or who should run it but it is sooooooo depressing watching the Devils demolish us . At least Carrick and Trocheck showed up .

Honestly, Shesterkin’s probably more valuable with the extension… except he needs to show some consistency.

Personally, I want to trade Shesterkin, Fox and Panarin and it has nothing to do with the quality of players they are and everything to do with wanting to genuinely rebuild, and they each will genuinely garner a truly great return. Of course I also want Kreider, Zib, Vesey, Smith, Lindgren and frankly, there isn’t anyone else on the roster that I wouldn’t be willing to move - be it a decent offer that comes across the table, or as a +/- in a trade of someone else. Like if it were Fox + Chytil or Panarin @50% + Miller. Whatever. There’s absolutely not a single player who is still a core building block at this stage.

The Rangers need a full 100% reset. Not even just a rebuild. New coach and staff, new roster, new GM. The only things we should keep are the jerseys and arena. Genuinely.

Honestly I think the jerseys need a reset too, I know it’s the classic ones from the 50s and 60s, but I rather they go back to the ones in the 90s, shoot I wouldn’t mind something crazy like 3rd jersey (with some classic stripping instead) becoming the new home and away. I think a reset across the board is needed, but Dolan needs to think forward and not behind.

The Adam Fox talk is looking for another high priced whipping boy. Teams that win the Cup not only have a #1 Defenseman, but they’re LOADED at the position. Is anyone on the defensive unit outside of Fox as good as someone like Forsling, McDonagh, or Sergachev?

He’s one of like, 5 guys on the roster I’d keep right now.
Fox has the greatest value on the team in a trade. Sometimes it's better to trade a player a year or two early than wait when the NMC kicks and every proposal on this board in 2027 includes Fox.

These arguments go in predictable circles.

Yes, the players we'd like to trade least also have really high trade value. That's because players like that are often very difficult to find.

My half a sleep ranger re-tool

Miller to van for willinder, one of raty or lettermaki

Lindgren to minny for heidt

Kreider to Utah for lamoureux, Cole beaudon & mid round pick

I’m sure my value is way off but nyr should be going for close to ready prospects and really fill in holes they can’t fill internally. I don’t think adding late picks make sense with the shesty, fox & laf contracts.
