At 1st overall you should expect a superstar. Doesn’t always happen (obviously).

And Hischier has never had a PPG season in his career.

No. Hes a tier behind Celebrini
Hope for absolutely.

Expect? There isn’t a super present every year.

Lafreniere has rounded into form, but you wouldn’t call him an upper echelon 1 OA at this point.

Kakko as a 2 isn’t exactly a bust, but he’s surely very underwhelming.

The rotten culture predated wayyyy before Drury. We’re talking about lack of accountability and that started with AV. They said Quinn was going to be accountable and he was the biggest fraud there was. There hasn’t been a coach to preach accountability since Torts. Regardless of his strategy was viable long term or not.

My only gripe with Drury that’s realistic is that Trouba should have been moved as soon as that became public.

Otherwise, the rotten culture started way before him. The placating to the vets and the division between old and young players. At the end of the day, it’s not based on merit and players smell that from a mile away
Obviously there’s a major shift over the last year. It sounds like they potentially have profound issues.

To say they’ve had years and years of rotten culture dating back 8 years or so is a bit much. They’ve had quite a bit of success in recent years for a team that’s been rotten.

A lot of the reason Laviolette has lost teams is that he preaches a strict 1-3-1 and players don’t like playing that style. It’s kneecapped many coaches. You get one good season and then things go south.

Don’t help that he’s a hardass either.
They aren't playing 1 3 1 right now...

I don't think they will deal with each other but cozens and kakko seem like an interesting situation. Would take cozens all day but don't see it happening.

Kakko is one of the (very) few players on the roster doing his job. Scratching him is laughable. I guess I'm not really surprised at this point. Rangers are the most embarrassing team in NY this year, and that's a genuine accomplishment considering the Jets, Giants, and Sabres exist.
Of course he may have been scratched for a reason we don’t know…

Again, I will mention just because Lindgren got his pocket picked and Kyrou walked in all alone for a goal....
Legit question here, do you actually think lindgren does that same play/mistake if kreider is yelling to him man on, or to reverse the puck off the wall to him? The way it happened was like lindgren knew the guy was near him but had no idea he was so close. Not absolving the play but that's on teammates for not communicating and nother sign of the absolute shittery that is this team right now

Kakko makes 2+million, Cozens makes 7+million long term. Cozens is also looking much more like a wing these days.

I’m not sure adding another big contract to a winger is wise. They obviously wouldn’t be looking to trade him because he’s killing it.

I mean if they fired Lav, honestly who would want to come here with a core of malcontents
That's how you end up with John Hynes as coach. There's always a desperate retread available that has no business being employed in the league unless they take a bad job.

Kakko has no role or purpose here and is due a contract this summer. Do you think he's resigning here again? Come on.

With cozens it comes down to if you think he can play center, and if not can he be an effective winger. Cozens if he is right can impact a game more.

Trocheck and Kreider, turn in those lists by noon tomorrow. Kakko out for a defenseman. Can we get Vaakanainen out of the tub so we can move Lindgren?

The 1-3-1 isn't a hard system to play, it's just an unfun one. I remember Bob talking about the 1-3-1 having a limited shelf life, and it didn't make sense to me at the time.

Seeing how willful these guys are, and how the 1-3-1 doesn't really facilitate offense in any respect, I can see why they wouldn't want to because they're sabotaging.

The other reason roster needs a major overhaul of removing the soft country club types that dont care is because the young kids we have CANNOT be softened up by these vets. Cuylle, Berard, Othmann, Schneider, Mancini, Laff, Edstrom, Sykora have some bite to their game. They CANNOT be softened by the influence of the golfer/book worms that current infest the locker room.

I know people will disagree with me but to me this means even moving adam fox. If we could move fox for charlie macavoy i do it all day

No like they legit aren't playing that right now. Watch them. It's not 1 3 1. Valley even mentioned it a couple games ago that they had shifted to a 1 2 2. The reality is that the roster doesn't have the speed to play any sort of aggressive system. That's on roster construction and organization building strategy

Sure, 1-3-1 is right for the team because they're slow as shit. But they don't wanna.

Im really dying for a 1990s NHL blockbuster trade involving the Rangers. I think they and the league need it. The guys you mentioned would be my untouchables, but anyone else I'd be extremely willing to move in a multiple players in and out type move. There are a lot of teams around the league that need major shakeups. The Rangers need to add size and physicality and speed to their lineup on defense especially. But I trust the younger players if their roles are increased. Drury needs to stop being a coward because he can turn it around with some agressive trades.

I’m no Kakko fan. I’m happy to take a positive return for him. I’d-much prefer Cozens the player. He’s better so the reasoning for Buffalo would be to dump the contract. I’m just saying adding a 7+ million dollar long term deal to another winger when the defense is in shambles is a potential negative value contract. Maybe with some other moving parts? I know they liked him in his draft year. Just doesn’t seem like a fit to me.

Sabres make obvious trading partners. 2 teams who are both desperate to shake things up. Just hope we come out on top and it makes me nervous because I'm sure it involves #24

Any defenseman. Clifton, Byram or Sammuelsson for Kakko. We need size and skating. Clifton is a local kid and tough.
