I understand wanting to light a fire under your teams ass but there’s other ways to accomplish this. Scratch guys, demote guys, take away their PP time. Any of those things are completely reasonable considering the play of some of the players. But you start threatening trades and don’t follow through, you look weak. I learned that very fast with my one year old.

strong agree to nearly all the above
think quick prob can spell that ufa G 1 season and help w/Garand, Domingue supports
also keep Kreider for now unless too big a return to pass on
keeping Kreider short term enables Othmann to be used in a deal, and that can possibly move deadwood

I would look at creative ways to ditch Zib half retained with idea he waives if to an ultimate relocation of choice

zib term is a concern so we may have to have 3rd team help to get his # down again almost 50%, so
first 8.5 to 4.25 by us
then another 2 down to 2.25 by a 3rd team
this ^ is of course gonna cost and how much will decide if worth it

the idea then is as bad as zib has been, at 2.25 to a team which has appeal b'c it is close = LI? or other looks like a fit on paper = LA ?

these might get us out from under the nmc issue

it will still cost and we likely still take a bad contract or 2 but w/no nmc, while some pain, at least we can jettison zib

I believe Zib will just be to hard and expensive to move at the moment.
His dive in performance is a bit weird, does not seem like it is anything physical wrong (not like Lindgren where the body are falling apart).

Instead of paying a hefty price and still be on the hook for part of his caphit, I would rather gamble on giving him a reduced role combined with changing the rest of the core might elevate him a bit.

Not looking at strictly picks as the return in the trades, this is a retool, not a rebuilt. These players would be interesting for contending teams, so young-ish players not being a part of a contending core but with a shorter timeline to the NHL will work aswell.

I don't think Drury is bluffing. If he can make a trade, he will. Another team has to be a willing trade partner. And if he can't pull one off, it doesn't mean that he didn't try. I don't doubt this from a guy who sent away fan favorite Buch and then dropped Goodrow like yesterday's fruit salad. Sentimentality is not part of his equation. If anything, he seems to want to erase his mistakes, looking at Goodrow and sending Blais back to the Blues.

He couldn't move Trouba in the offseason. Is that a bluff now?

Not a bluff, but keep that stuff in house. I understand why the Trouba stuff got leaked this summer I don’t understand the purpose of sending a stupid memo to the entire league. He looks like a clown.

Mika Zinanejad’s nephew made a video recapping what is wrong with the Rangers:

This guy lost me when he said that Chytil hasn't lived up to his potential. You want to talk about his injuries? Fine. But saying he hasn't lived up to his potential tells me this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

What kind of return are you looking for? :sarcasm:

There isn't a difference between reaching out to one or a couple of teams about trade interest and sending a league-wide memo, in my humble view. Word is going to get out one way or another. What this whole thing tells me, at least, anyway is that he could be prone to impulsiveness. I agree things could've started with reduced ice time and benchings for underperforming vets. But, I think we would be dealing with the same level of controversy and turmoil anyway -- to the effect of there's big trouble in Rangerstown.

Trou & Kreids: angry stare
Drury: “so about that memo… im not really going to trade you.”
Trou: “but you tried to this summer”
Drury: “did i?”
Trou: “yes, so this shit needs to stop. Either trade me or leave me alone”
Drury: “well, heres the thing. Im terrible at making trades, remember Buch?”
Kreids: “dont remind me, Zibby still hasnt recovered”
Drury: “yeah, so we dont want that to happen again. Dolan thinks i know what i am doing. Lets keep it that way. You know and i know, i dont like change and dont like risks. So pretty please, play better. Otherwise i will go out and do something dumb
Trouba: “so you’re really not trading us”
Drury: “nope, dont know how to. I only trade picks.”
Trouba: “f***off”
Drury”: “i’ll take that as you will try tk play better. Good talk”
kreider: “can we get buch back”

The deals will likely be money in/money out.

Trouba was rumored between Dallas/vegas/minn.
None of them have any space at all, and so it would have to be money out.
Dallas would be the most interesting since there are some high end older centers who they may be willing to move to make space for the kids.
I'm not really putting too much stock into what that guy Kyle Hall says because he hasn't really shown to be reliable. Plus, it's easy to say he'd be interested in going to some of the teams with the best records in the league at the moment. Either way, yes, any trade they'd make at this point would basically have to be money in/money out. That's part of tempering the expectations a bit.

I think for me at least the difference is he went public and it blew up in his face twice. And things are worse. He couldn’t try and work a deal for lindgren or trouba a bit more discretely? You reach out to a few GMs via phone or text and it’s probably a lot easier to keep it contained. You run to the entire league and you risk it getting out and becoming this mess. Usually trades happen and everyone is like wow, didn’t see that one coming. Or just waive one of these pylons. You’re right, benching or memo the takeaway is still the same. But guys deserved to get benched and have their roles reduced. We all have eyes. I think if the goal is to salvage the season, the answer most come from within this time of year. Outside of maybe trying to get rid of Lindgren or making a small hockey trade. If you’re not convinced they have a shot, move like 6 guys and start over.

Let's be fair, Larry doesn't have to worry about pissing off anyone at this point of his career.

Let’s also not act like Larry was some coward in his heyday. He could stand and deliver with Torts.

Did they meet with Zibanejad or just the guys who are being scapegoated to protect his feelings?

Just a friendly reminder to everyone: if you guys are expecting returns to include a prospect like Ryan Leonard or a young player like Cozens/Zegras based off the last Brooks article, you're going to be severely disappointed. Don't set those expectations for yourself when they were never within the realm of possibility anyways
Setting unrealistic expectations allows fans to then whine and moan and talk about what SHOULD have happened

There’s a leak in the front office. No way does Drury “want this to be known” and then call a meeting with the leadership group a day later to repair the damage.

Ramsey spy cam, IMHO.

Have we not learned by now that anything tweeted by Friedman is from an agent? It’s probably Overhardt who is the prick who has spurred every holdout of Trouba’s career

What about the seasons after that including a 30 goal season and a 40 goal season?'

Mika Zibanejad is a horribly bad hockey player right now but lets not pretend that he only had one good season as a Ranger. He is basicly even with Kreider in point totals as a Ranger with like 300 games less played and only behind Leetch and Messier in playoff points counting PPG pace.
Sometimes fans need to separate production with being a good player on the ice. Zibanejad has had several productive seasons. But his play on the ice should have left you wanting a lot more from him, especially since he was/is suppose to be the 1c. Not to be bias towards Zibanejad, but when a 2c isn't playing well and goes out exceeding production through-out the year, it's
Trade away Igor, Vesey, Lindgren & Smith during this season, trade Trouba (50% retained), Kreider & Panarin (if he wants, 50% retained) in the summer of 25.

Go into next season with something like

Laf - Trocheck - Berard
Cuylle - Chytil - Kakko
Othman - Zinbadejad - Perrault
Edstrom - Carrick - Rempe
Brodz

Miller - Fox
Jones - Schneider
xxx - Mancini

UFA Goalie
Garand
There is no way you trade all those players and not even come back with a roster player in the top 12. Also, there is no way Berard is penciled in on the top line.

concur that all the out of the box gyrations needed to possibly move him
have to be weighed vs just not playing him at all

I am afraid he is too cooked to play well w/others, although chemistry is a unique thing not always predictable [Strome-bread]

The only thing that will bring back a worthwhile piece for the future is Kreider (of the rumored).

I wouldn't have said this a month ago, but trading Igor for a massive haul accomplishes the end of this eras Rangers and would return meaningful pieces. They don't survive without him.

It would allow for Drury to rebrand this team. I don't think there is a full rebuild incoming. There are still many promising young players on the roster.

What does need to be prioritized is a young center with potential to acquire. I'm not saying EJ Emery was a bad pick, but RHD wasn't high up the list of positions this pool needed with Fox locked in, Schneider still being young, and Mancini showing promise.

Maybe he did do things discretely at first. We don't know. It's all speculation until Drury tells his story, if ever. He didn't send a league-wide memo on Trouba in the summer, attempted a trade, and it blew up just the same. Waived Goodrow and now the board is speculating in hindsight that it fractured the room. Things go scorched earth real fast these days, with everyone plugged in and tuned in.

And while it sucks for us right now, this kind of stuff happens to every organization. The Leafs have dealt with speculation around their core for years, and with a media frenzy that is multiple times more intense than here.

no, imo you completely can
called addition by subtraction
we can loser with those loser vets
or we can try for better with youth willing to put out

no way?
