I haven't been paying attention much lately because I've been traveling and missing games (which seems like a good thing!) but the whole team looks like they're facing adversity and aren't sure what to do about it
man as much as I like Kreider in general trade rumors about him also don't shock me...he's a huge culprit in the "low energy and won't make an effort around the ice" stuff that goes on. His work on the boards is basically zero effort, his defensive work is zero effort, he hates to touch the puck to do anything with it except sometimes shoot and to deflect shots. His play is a shining example of what the team has struggled with this year and why they keep getting their shit kicked in.
You can't play soft in this league, and Kreider is playing as soft as it gets. You gotta at least put in some effort around the ice and not just in front of the net.

It was over for Kreider after that game in the playoffs where he threw Tkachuk's mouthguard into the stands. Florida obviously ultimately ended up winning and Tkachuk was asked about it. "It was the best play Kreider made all game". There's no coming back from that embarrassment.

we have 3 elite players on the team. panarin, fox, and shesterkin.

the wish upon a star hope is that Perreault becomes elite. i'm not sure if panarin stays here long term.

the "get to the middle" playstyle element is a great shout but one thing that it requires that people forget is that you have to be able to either skate, or displace. cuylle skates well and he is becoming strong enough to displace defenders. a healthy chytil is both. berard skates. Kakko is strong.

lafreniere is neither, right now. Othmann skates poorly - he may have the desire but not the physical tools especially at his age.

Guys in the NHL are pros at the highest level. With a decent coach and enough guys doing the right things, 95% of them will buy in.

You either have talent or you don't.

The roster building should only be focused on ability. Let the coach worry about the rest.

If there are bad actors, you cross that bridge when you get to it.

I think the personality composition of the roster can impact team culture as much as coaching can.

Torts yelling at guys can help but has limits. A lot of limits. Having actual workmanlike players who establish that laziness and random Feburary games off will get you socially sanctioned I don't think is something that you can coach into a group of Nik Zherdevs.

Good one. Nik Zherdev was as lazy as they came.

I think its time to tell Zib, trouba and Lindgren they can start working remotely.

The organization understands the younger generations like of WFH and we want to be friendly to their needs.

can we stop with the “threatening to not report” shit

The only person who’s been pushing that is Larry, who is on the Rangers payroll basically.

Trouba had 8 million reasons to report if traded, just stop it

We'll never know what Kurt Overhardt/Trouba actually put out there to prevent a trade (key distinction...prevent the trade...a threat of refusing to report could have been enough to kill a trade regardless of if Trouba would have actually followed through on it).

But a nothing tweet like that from Vince, who has significantly more to lose from not toeing the NYR party line to retain access certainly isn't convincing.

I have no idea what Vince tweeted so

But it’s nonsensical to think Trouba wouldn’t report if he got traded. There would be so many legal ramifications it’s even silly to suggest.

Now do I think Trouba and his agent possibly let it be known he wouldn’t be terribly happy if they traded for him? Sure.

That’s not the same as saying he won’t report

The composition has an effect, but I think you'll find few guys who made it this far who are unsalvageable.

The Rangers should tell Mika to stay home for Thanksgiving and decide how much the team means to him.

You're so persecuted Jacob. I wouldve waived this guy after the game yesterday.

Trouba has completely tuned out

He was supposedly a big leader in the locker room

Indications seem to be he is just saying f*** it I'll be quiet and do my own thing and collect my money

Its kind of funny you say this.

I was listening to NhL radio in. The morning last week and they talked about a former player.

To sum it up, he was a player that was good at hockey but didnt actually like the sport, and honestly doesnt follow it at all now since he js out of it.

I get those vibes from Mika. Like he is good at it, and does it because he is good at it. But doesnt really care about it.

Edit: i was defintiely wrong with the original name. Cant remember the name of the player. But it was interesting to listen too.

Laviolette and Drury are just as gutless as the rotten core if Brodzinski and Ruhwedel arent in for Mika and Trouba tomorrow.

The worst 5v5 habits that the biggest offenders have were all always there. I don't care what Zibanejad did when he was shooting over 20%. People pointed it out, nobody wanted to listen, and now it's "what happened to Zibanejad?"
When did Zianejad ever shot over 20%? He had one season at 19.7. People (myself included) are wondering whats going on with him becuase we have seen him being an effective goal scorer shooting 13-15%. You know who had a career year shooting over 20%? Kreider who in your eyes can do no wrong. For all the Mika defending I do on these boards I at least can admit he is a BIG part of the problem right now and that his play is garbage. You on the other hand always find excuses for Kreider and your go to excuse have always been that Mika drags him down. In truth, Mika is the guy who reinvigorated Kreiders career. Kreider is the player he is today because of Zibanejad.

Up in the Blue Sears podcast:
Mollie Walkerless:

Good stuff from Larry on Up in the Blue Seats with Boyle

-Talked about how after tough losses and stretches every night back in the day Hank, Cally, Staal, Girardi, McD and Stepan stayed in the locker room every night to answer tough questions. Vets nowhere to be found last night but Cuylle, Laf, Schneider, Berard(!) and Panarin were. This is prob why people pine for the 2012 Rangers @Machinehead , they were accountable!

-Discussed how badly they miss Chytil. I think we underestimate Chytil's ability and impact to the team and locker room. He's been here since 2017 lest we forget. He is an underrated team leader and his absence has been hard to overcome.

-Both talked about how the Rangers think they are the Harlem Globetrotters and thats one of the main roots of the problems. That tracks with the eye test at least.

-Boyle & Larry calling for demotions and more ice time for the young guys. Still waiting on this for real from Laviolette. Schneider specifically was mentioned as a guy who got worse when he got demoted behind Trouba and Lindgren.

-Berard is the type of player the Rangers need more of. Small, courageous guy with a non-stop motor. Maybe it helps.

At the end of 2019-20, he scored 23 goals in his last 21 games. He made millions of dollars and bought himself two years of grace from the fans with that run.

I've said multiple times Kreider has been awful this year.
