Brady Tkachuk if anyone. And I'd put the odds of Pizza Man making a deal like that in-season at less than 1%.
I just think we might get a better response from the team overall and he gives us that #1 C we don't have for 3-4 more seasons . Anyways....nobody knows what the head office is thinking . None of us saw the big moves coming leading up to the 94 run even though it was 30 years ago. Crosby checks a lot of boxes . Some team will get him.....his discontent is showing .

He's not wrong. He way overuses that horrible slapper on the powerplay, but Trouba has driven 5v5 offense literally every minute he's played in the NHL that isn't with P'Ossession Killer.

I don’t really see what the fix is for this year except just continuing to play Miller with Fox and Trouba with Lindgren. Sure, he could easily trade Lindgren at some point, but he would then need to acquire another dman because Mancini has been absolutely horrendous in his ten games up here, which really isn’t his fault, the guy was playing at Nebraska this time last year, but he’s clearly not ready for the NHL.

I hope he stays in Hartford for the rest of the year.

Sounds like a pretty good plan to me.

There in lies the issue with Drury's off season plan. He went all in on moving Trouba and pinned himself in a corner when it came to moving the D on the team who is even worse than #8. There were more than a handful of suitable replacements (we didn't need a big name) available via UFA and trade.

Look at the Caps - That is a team that sucked balls despite making the playoffs and they had an aggressive summer where they completely restructured their defense and are a strong team now (OV shooting 900% before getting hurt is smoke and mirrors, but the team all around has performed much better top to bottom.)

Theres no reason why Dru couldn't have had a similar approach but he decided to keep the same group together bc friendship and vibes. No one should be surprised that the same issues they had last year are ones that still exist now because nothing was done to fix them and instead he just tripled down on them.

Drury is awake it appears

Ok this is kind of major.

It bothers me than Ryan Lindgren isn't front and center here though. I think it may be time to move Kreider if for no other reason he deserves it (I have no doubt that he'll automatically go back to being awesome the second he's moved) and that the team just needs a change but what the f*** is the appeal of #55? He sucks at everything.

People keep saying Drury has no balls. Is it possible he just doesn't know how to build a team and make trades and that's he hasn't made one hockey move outside of some deadline pickups in his entire tenure here?

Well, one of his first moves was a pretty ballsy hockey trade that...did not go well.

Most likely answer is that he is a typical and replacement-level NHL GM. Risk averse. Limited vision. Does ownership's bidding. Has some things he is ok at, other things less than ok. He has done little to inspire faith that he is capable of ushering in a new era of success.

I dont think Lindgren has a shred of value around the league. I'd scratch him, however, it should be noted that scratching on of the few guys whose effort is not in question sends a bad message. He and Trouba should be playing sheltered minutes regardless.

Right, and I'm sorry, this is where I get into "I don't care" territory.

Ok, you saw Fox turn the puck over. That's fine and dandy.

X's and O's explain results, they don't supersede results.

Fox is +6 with a partner who is an unsupervised child with scissors when Fox isn't with him.

Lindgren is even at 5v5. 9 for, 9 against. Miller has been much worse.

I feel like your reaction is based on the fact that people have been beating the drum on Lindgren for at least a year, while playing "wait and see" with Miller.

Wait and see is coming to an end for me. Miller is one of the biggest offenders at this point. It's not "those two" anymore, it's "those three."

That drum is going to start getting beat now. Welcome to my concert.
wow this post - so fun, so smug! let me just look for the faintest sense of subjectivity, of doubt in your own analysis, of awareness that the "drum" you do stridently beat for Kakko and Cuylle last year was entirely out of rhythm as far as using current performance to gauge a players ability to contribute positively in the future. oh, there's nothing. okay.

PSA that the Panthers rebuilt their defense in one offseason.

They turned Staal, Gudas, and Mahura into OEL, Kulikov, and Mikkola.

Nothing revolutionary, just nixing absolutely horrible players, and replacing them with guys that deserve jobs in the NHL (actually Gudas is pretty good, Marc Staal is the important part of this post).

People like to compare the rosters and say they don't see the difference on paper, but having no terrible players is just as important as having great ones.
The biggest difference is that none of those guys were making nearly what the issues on this defense are making.

This also didn't need to happen. There was no reason to even go 1 year on Lindgren. Unfortunately the Trouba rumors were killed by his agent leaking everything to the media.

It's not like the entire defense sucks, it's that you have two guys weighing things down.

It's the same thing with the forward group. The Kreider-Zibanjed-Smith line is brutal. It's also being used more as a 3rd line 5v5 now than it was at the beginning of the season. Maybe Kreider has been banged up for a bit and trying to gut it out? This would be the falling off a cliff type stuff from him, which I guess at 33 is entirely possible.
