Why wait til the off-season or the deadline...This team needs a shake up now.

This team needed a shake up last summer. Even then it was long overdue. Now the situation reeks like ripe cheese. Bringing back Tuba/Lindgren was a serious mistake that should never have been allowed to happen. There have been far too many stupid mistakes tbh.

IMO that’s too much for a tanking prospect and an aging vet. I would not do KAM for Zegras straight up. Zegras has been playing like hammered dogshit this season and last. The funny part of that article was Zegras saying he like s center because playing defense gets him into the game… what defense? Sure, he has upside and if we can get hm ON THE CHEAP we should do it, but f*** Vatrano, IMO. We have forwards in Hartford I’d rather give a chance.
That was an insane trade. No way we do it plus it does not help our major issues. We are too easy to play against. We need more physical guys that have speed and higher motors. We need to look at teams like Florida, Edmonton and Colorado. Look for guys that can compete with them.

That’s three teams that all have worse records than us. How come they aren’t competing well despite their pedigree, physicality, and great motors? Have they mailed it in and been playing with a country club attitude now that they’re complacent after having success?

I think its more than a shake up. We need a team identity that is not easy to play against. Figure out a new identity and then try to move towards it. We have 4-8 forwards to keep. The rest are movable if it improves the team. No givaway trades. I would move any of our Dmen if the trade improves the team. Otherwise I would keep 3-4 of them and try to add 3 better ones.

The record during the first month of the season means nothing to me. My view is the chance to win a cup. Do you believe those 3 teams have a lower chance of being in a cup final than we do based on 1 or 2 less losses today?

The first month does not count? I think people like to constantly bash the team they watch every day and neglect all the issues of every other team because they very rarely watch complete games from them. And yes, they have been terrible lately but other teams also have been else they wouldn’t have worse records and goal differentials

It feels like it’s time to do what DAL did and have a convo w/ our version of Benn and Seguin (Kreider and Zib). You’re getting reduced roles, the kids will be taking the lead along w/ some productive vets (Panarin, Trocheck). Unfortunately we don’t have the embarrassment of riches in the system that DAL has, but at the time they only had Robo and Hintz, not Wyatt and Stankhoven. It’s the type of shakeup that is needed when things get stale, and things are beyond stale with this veteran group.

The first month counts but is not a predictor of who will play for the cup. How did Edmonton start out last season? If you feel this team is likely to play for the cup I will respect your opinion. I respectfully disagree. Florida used to play a finesse game. They changed their game to more of a playoff game and they have been in the finals 2 years in a row. Finesse teams with a low motor are not a good combination. Add in aging and I feel its near impossible to picture a cup with this group as is today.

That might help but that is not going to be enough. Just changing lines or minutes of the same pieces will not get us a cup. We are structurally flawed imo.

PA from SI
If the Rangers flame out again this spring, nothing should be off the table. The salary cap should see a significant increase if the NHL and PA can agree to a new CBA before June. $97M cap. There should be money in the system to move players. The Rangers are a stale group. Something needs to change. What move(s) will Drury make at the trade deadline to change the fortunes of the club? Drury will empty the remaining draft pick capital pool for some mid-level players who will not make any difference at all. Spending more bad money to fix the same problems. EF discussed the Rangers issues on 32T on Friday. He will probably bring up the Rangers again on 32T tomorrow morning.

Jeff Marek will start his new show next Monday. I miss Marek's daily show.
If the Rangers flame out, and they will, a total retool should be on the table. Everyone, within reason should be available and Drury should be replaced. This team has run its course as currently constructed.

Also it's time to figure out what to do about Miller. He looked good for the few games the team utilized Martin's defensive system, where he was much more protected and could play what was infront of him. The current Donald Duck system that has him running all over the ice to cover huge areas (and his partner) does him no favours.

And related to that, stop with the stupid D zone system already. All of the players look like clowns chasing people around and nobody is in place for a swift transition once/if the puck is recovered.

Then there's the neutral zone issues... the middle of the ice issues... the banal o zone approach issues... oh well.

Lindgren can be moved yesterday. That would send a huge message to this core.
Would it really?

Lindgren for all his flaws gives 100% effort, he's just not good at it.
He's the opposite of the guys who you "want to send a messasge" to.

So what message would be received? Hard work gets you traded?

Florida looks like a team that has played a ton of hockey and lost some bottom 6 glue guys which is what happens to every cup winner in cap era.

Colorado is getting Georgieved.

Edmonton reassembled their entire depth and they haven't been good enough.

Would anyone consider trading Shesterkin to the Blues for Binnington and a prospect like Adam Jiricek? That is assuming, Shesterkin is willing to re-sign with the Blues, which is a distinct possibility because he'd reunite with Captain Happy.

Binnington can be the bridge to Garand.

I keep saying this but the offseason could involve the biggest amount of opportunities opening up on this roster. Or they could just run everything back with their "smart" people in management.

Lindgren, Trouba, Miller - what is he getting paid and does that even happen? Goalie situation. Somebody from the core finally going? Going to be a wild summer if this team doesn't find a to put it together and play with effort and skill.

What we are watching has reached embarrassing. When we talk about them having a good period these days, it involves a period where nothing really happened.

Agreed, I was just talking about what can be done right now. It is certainly not enough, but the bigger personnel changes will likely come on defense (trading Trouba and Lindgren), then over time the team will take a new shape as we move on from Panarin, Kreider, etc.

Another way to look at it is a message is sent that the status quo & the BFF mentality is a thing of the past. Maybe these guys wake up when they come to work & one of their buddies is missing. Plus it also shows that the GM is serious about upgrading the defense.

Hard work & good attitude only goes so far. Lindgren has that in spades, but he's a terrible hockey player, yet keeps his spot in the top 4 without fear of consequence. We need to move on from him at some point, why not start ASAP?

the reason the rangers record is what it is, is because of 2 guys: Igor and Quick

I think his point was to gear up for the playoffs. We are making the post season regardless and so are those teams. Also, EDM wiped us out just last night…
