Hasn't really felt like the season has started since there really hasn't been a good rhythm to the schedule. At least for the Rangers.

Really hope this team (Drury) bites the bullet and moves Lindgren so Jones and Mancini can play. I don't even need or want them to have to make a package to get another LD. I think it is best for the team both now and going forward that Jones and Mancini play. They just make the whole D core faster and more efficient. That wins hockey games.

They need to consolidate and upgrade on defense. I hope they see it. I think they do. They didnt give Lindgren anything long term and attempted to deal Trouba in the summer. Im willing to pay a high price (roster players, prospects and/or draft picks) to get a real, long-term minute eating partner for Fox who isnt going to fall down when a forechecker bears down on them. Getting another guy or 2 like this will solve the majority of the team's defensive problems. Lindgren/Miller/Jones on the left side aint it. We're a top team but we're not winning the Cup with this defense.

Panthers have Barkov who eats Zibby alive and Forsling who is outplaying Fox recently. We win the goalie battle against them and we are deeper (debatable) but since they won the cup they lost a bit of their depth and we gained some. The problem is our system which gets pinned in it's own zone against heavy Forechecks and our D corps. We need an upgrade there badly, trade Lindgren for a more stable partner for Fox or Schneider is what we need to do. Jones has potential but the front office won't play him for some reason.

I really like the Cuylle Tro Smith line, a blend of veterans with scoring touch and a young Bowling ball with a heavy shot to create havoc. Also happy Kreider and Zibby got split up.

Why are we trading Rempe or Vesey? Rempe can go up and down to Hartford , Vesey has a value contract imo. We'd get very little for either player, depth is always nice to have
b'c the value of
optimizing Rempe [= future] now so he is most ready for POs >>> what we know we get from Vesey [ordinary at best, and our past]

depth is always good to have, but it's not like w/Carrick + Brodz to alternate w/RempEd, keep everybody fresh, we are not covered on depth.
If there is unexpected spate of injuries, we have guys in the A
and
it is important those guys see hope of advancement b'c we reward hard work and progress

keeping Vesey and sending Rempe down is wrong message to them
it is not priority compared to what happens here, but it is a factor

hardly a man is still alive.....

who knows where that is from....?

You have to be careful.
We are not bursting at the seams w/assets we can splurge on and then, when we need those assets not far down the road = trouble

instant gratification = usually a bad idea

Dibs on this for my Ranger brethren....

So again, best hope for at least 1 if not multiple cups = EXTEND the window
this means deal vets for youth, handful of exceptions notwithstanding.

Be mindful that stuff not in a vacuum, things are interconnected. Also, b’c we did not listen to bern, and we gave out NMCs, we are going to have to make certain deals to incline players to waive. {Should never do NMCs for anyone, period; extensive NTCs are sufficient.}
_________

I don’t want to deal KAM but the Zib situation needs to be addressed. Immediate move to acquire C w/high end potential and we slide righty shot Zib to 1RW, see how that works out short term, tho Zib has to get the message eventually we are moving EVERYONE who is max $$$ to keep quality youthful depth. If he doesn’t like it, he can be moved to 4th line or get consistent dnp.

1. Rs - Ds
KAM, Othmann, Lindgren, Vesey, Robertson
for
Zegras, Vatrano, Vaakanainen, Dumoulin, Helleson

rationale: Ducks not urgent to move Zeg now but as he is rumored to want to eventually head home, and they have good pivot depth, he can be had for the right return. They want quality young D, KAM fits if there is sufficient +. Lindy is a fine stopgap and if they sell Fowler helps cover there this season. Robertson change of scenery w/Helleson at our request. Vesey = bottom 6 ok. Vaakanainen, Dumoulin, are short term and not inconceivable under certain circumstances either/both may go back to ANA.

Rs get Zegras, see the chem immediately w/Kreider [who he trains w/in off season]. Breaks up wonder twins. IF we get something around Shesty + [hopefully including Zib] for Byfield, that is yr 1C, = Kreider - Byfield - Zegras/eventually Gabe P next yr. Meantime Zib if still here or Vatrano if he isn’t solves 1st line issues.
Vaakanainen, Dumoulin, replace Lindy, KAM.

Deal is ballpark cap equivalent

2. Rs - Ds
Panarin 11.6+ x2 reduced 5.6+ to 6 per x 2 + Jones 812,500 expiring rfa
for
Nemec [recent 2OA] elc,
rights to Silayev (10OA past draft),
cap dumps Haula 3.15 x 2 and Tatar 1.8 expiring ufa

small cap hit to NJ which it can fit at present

rationale:
I tried to work Trouba into this but can’t since due to cap limitations.

Jersey gets bread who helps immediately; extensive retaining is huge, x 2.
Devs are heavy RD including right shot [Pesce, Hamilton] and while Nemec is coming along and shows upside, he can be surrendered for too much to turn down. Losing Silayev, a height + speed unicorn, is a major wince, but doable.
Jones is fine stopgap this yr, plays either side, can do PMD and expiring so a flexible situation. Tatar is expiring and not returning to Rangers, consider a rental who may be invited back

Rs have to understand bread not here after contract is up, he will not sniff 11+ from us due to cap, and that makes for awkward -> ugly scene, so he will waive IF relocated to where he wants [closeby, a fit for linemates, cup potential].
Dealing bread impresses upon Zib Drury is gonna break up some of the band, and he can’t stop it. He can waive, or deal with it.
Of course no one is saying give bread for nothing. 2 primo Ds are the prize here.
The Fs are cap dumps.

3. Rs - Ks
Shesty* 5.6 expiring -> ufa max half retained to 2.8 + Nemec + Zib 8.5 per
for
Byfield 6.25 x 5 +Rittich 1m expiring ufa.

LA allowed to negotiate fully before and extend Igor long term

cap is roughly just over 12 + to LA, 7.25 to NY, = 5 m cap hit to LA, which they can absorb short term w/Doughty on LTIR and afterwards can deal to reduce that number

if Zib does not waive, we can do Haula + Tatar for cap and add futures

rationale:
it is documented LA badly wants Shesty. This solves their net issues for at least 6-ish yrs. Also, primo importance, they are adding a former 2OA righty shot RD in Nemec, just in time as Doughty winds down
Other aspects are secondary, Zib is a good piece top 6 and Kopitar maybe gives you another year. Bottom line is Ks are sufficiently strong at pivot can give up 2OA C for 2OA RD and elite Vez quality G as core to any deal.

Byfield = stud 1C, ideal fit w/Kreider + Zegras/Vatrano for now, gabe P next yr
we address structural cap, add quality youth
listen to bern, grab the bull by the horns, not let the bull run over us
still have plenty of D, etc

4. Deal surplus pieces to highest bidders

Bottom line (w/Zib waives, surplus sell off)

Kreider - Byfield - Zegras
LaF - Tro - Vatrano
Cuylle - Chytil - Kakko
Eds - Brodz - Rempe

Carrick + Smith = forward depth

Fox - Schneider
Vaakanainen - Mancini
Dumoulin - Trouba

usual suspects for LD depth: Scanlin/Harpur/Mackey/Ruhwedel
Rasmus Larsson and Hank Kempf may be close enuf for cup of coffee if available

eventually [soon] Silayev/Emery/Fortescue add D upgrade, depth
next yr assets recouped on Trouba may open up possible LD help

Broberg on LTIR
after the above, possible buy now w/St. Louis for acceptable assets and add late in the yr?

EDIT ADD:
as mentioned before, we gamble on Garand to absorb starter position, helped by Quick/Domingue

not so fast
also
long term bread not here, we want to deal for value if/when possible [we can eventually]

no x 2 don't say that even to be funny
Mitchkov is likely a 1st line scoring talent, possibly perennial all star, for the next 12 years. Much as I love kakko and Rempe... I'd do that. It's not going to happen though, so its moot.

I mean we all are probably happy that Goodrow is gone, but pretty sure his departure had some impact here.
