What about Connor Murphy? Good size. 1 year left at 4.4 mil. Shouldn't cost too much to acquire.

It seems like he's been around forever, but he's only 31.

Toughness but he is prone to take dumb penalties at the worst time. Rather get someone better.

That I cannot answer.
What I will say is that Perreault, though be our best non-professional prospect is not a can’t miss prospect.
If we look internally I can cite Anderson and Kravtsov who were much higher touted prospects at the time of their draft.
Externally I will list Nolan Patrick.
Those are just off the top of my head.
I wanted to stay within the last decade to be fair but if I were to go back the list is extremely vast.
My point is I can’t answer for 32 G.M.s
I know Vlasic is most probably untouchable but there are 31 GM that might have a surplus of LDs and need forwards.
Buffalo comes to mind and if they are not desperate, they should be.
Not saying it would be Perreault but what I would say is that he is not untouchable.

Andersson and Kravtsov were both drafted more highly but were reaches at that point in the draft, in two weak drafts. Perrault was a faller in a very strong draft. Neither Andersson nor Kravtsov were as good as Perrault in their D+1 years. Andresson was a McIlrath level draft pick of being guy that was overdrafted at the time of the draft. You're literally just looking at draft position. This take is nonsense.

In fact, many here were vocally not concerned about signing Lindgren to a long term extension since he was 5 years younger than when Girardi signed his albatross contract here (age 30). I cannot reiterate enough how bad it would be to have Lindgren under contract for another 4 years at an AAV that starts with a 5.
Close to 100% changed their view on this point (I wish more people here would be capable of this... and not only here).

For me it still is not Girardi argument but the issue of him not being good enough to partner with Fox on the 1st pair to handle top lines of other contenders deep in playoffs, and if not - his contract otherwise as UFA would be prohibitive.

This image is from an article about the Canadians and Sharks but look at the Rangers at the far end of both visuals

You put "potential(ly)" in a wrong place. Mancini can still count his total NHL games with his hands. It's a very good sign going forward when Trouba is gone. In this regard I don't even know why Lindgren needs to be mentioned with Mancini in the same sentence.
That's because Lindren is an undersized, under performing player who plays in the same position, who also has none of the 'potential' you mention here.

The team would've had to go through these pains of bringing Lindgren back anyway - I don't think he was rushed per se (his fishbowl is probably staying for awhile). He wasn't put with Fox right away either - this was a result of the whole D playing poorly and Laviolette is going through options. He also have to manage an undersized guy on 3rd pair and a rookie with 6 (?) NHL games under his belt who never played 1/2 of the NHL long season.
And you can't tell me that the Rangers being one of the league worse teams in SOGA for the whole season to date should be pinned on one guy who was out of the lineup for 2/3 of it. This last one is not pointed at you but the whole sentiment that the whole thing is Lindgren's fault.

The play was to have Lindgren on the third pair, not moving him up.

I think the poster says spells his handle noncents. :sarcasm:
Anyway I will concede that point even though it is subjective.
Once again, why is he untouchable?
Yes he is our best non professional prospect but we have a lot of prospects who play the wing.
We are skimp at LD.
Trade from strength to address a weakness.
I also believe that we are six degrees of separation from the original post. I never said we should trade Perreault what I said was I thought we should shore up the LD spot with a trade and not include Lafreniere, Cuylle, Chytl or Edstrom.
How this became an indictment on me for wanting to trade Perreault is jumping the shark.

Because he's our best prospect by a ton? He's probably the best non-goalie prospect the Rangers have had since Chereponov (RIP) if not longer if you don't count Laf and Kakko.

Hell, there's a non-zero possibility he'll be a better player than Laf.

all i asked was "what makes cuylle and edstrom untouchable, and makes perreault not?"

as far as what you've written about perreault, it's telling that you list him as our "best non-professional prospect." who exactly is a pro player that you have listed above him?

as far as the invocation of andersson and kravtsov, i think it's important to bear in mind that "pre draft hype" isn't the most recent data point we have. this kid crushed D1 ncaa hockey as a true freshman.

For everyone who is still hung up on giving Igor an extra half million or so, how have you enjoyed the season so far?

It’s been very enjoyable watching the best goaltender in hockey at the top of his game. Don’t ever forget that.

Way too much can happen in the last game of the season. Enjoy the whole season. You will be a lot less miserable.

I have quickly changed my tune from "Not a cent over 10mil" to "Give him a black check." Will be exciting to see if/for how long he can sustain this level of play.

This isn't Peyton Manning orchestrating an offense. This is the Ravens allowing 90 yard drive after 90 yard drive and seeing Ed Reed get an INT. Yeah the INT is a great play but watching the defense is an eye sore. I'd rather see my team dominate chances.

ultimately i think you can find decent enough defenders. look at mancini. not an all star but he can become a useful piece. we just need to shed the dead weight from a personnel perspective and instill some decent coaching. i have faith from the trouba stuff and the lindgren 1-yea deal that those 2 will not be rangers after this year. that's huge.

but Shesterkin.. you don't find what he brings. ever. he's legitimately the best at his position. you don't get rid of that guy.

Of course he will. That doesn’t change that’s he’s scored twice as many goals with them (in half the games) than he did with us. Even if it’s not sustainable that’s still a huge difference
having a full training camp with a team definitely helps too. At the end of the day, he’s just on a hot streak.

Too bad I don't think we have a chance in hell to win the cup until we get rid of Lindgren and Trouba.

I thought I answered that? Apologies I must have answered that to another poster.
The reason is that they are untouchable is because the team is in win now mode.
You need grinders who can keep the opposition pinned in their own zone during the playoffs.
The point I made to the other poster was think back to ‘94 when Neil Smith traded talent for grinders.
The result was a Stanley Cup.

I don't enjoy watching the team flounder while the goaltender pulls rabbits out of his ass at all.
