Doing ok is a slight understatement with miller-fox.
They’re a top 5 pair in the NHL.
The speculation is rampant. The one that makes the most sense to me is a fracture in the orbital bone.

Lindgren should be the 1st dman to go. Limited skillset and its obvious he won't be back next year. Call Boston they have some dmen they would trade now and they can have Lindgren back......
If you move Lindgren you do it to a team that has playoff aspirations.
I think Boston is realizing they don’t.
I think Detroit is the answer. Veleno for Lindgren.
Young center, has some room to grow.
Could be a top 6 answer.
Detroit could look at Lindgren to slot defenders into the right spots, and give Seider a real partner.

I can see that with J-S.....with the way k'Andre has been coughing up the puck, not so much with M-F.

Sore back from carrying the top 12.
And yet you’d be wrong.
They are literally one of the best pairs in hockey.
As I said a while ago.
Millers typical game is 1-2 bad plays that are very noticeable.
1-2 very good plays defensively.
And then the rest of the game is solid steady defense with a little offense.
While paired with Fox they literally control the play.
He turns the puck over and yet it rarely ends up scoring against the rangers.

I get what you're saying -- but (IMO) it just doesn't pass ye olde "eye test". When all is said and done, I still don't like that pairing.

I really wonder why… it’s almost like there’s something different about miller that rubs people the wrong way.
The eye test backs the stats, so again this is unfounded. So maybe there’s something visually you don’t like about miller?

This proves "the theory" that people see things differently. He's never looked like more than an average defender to me.
Who's eyes? He's been awful this season. Boneheaded plays, constantly gets beat to pucks, bad passes, no awareness on the ice, terrible body language, and he's the softest player on the team.

It’s context dependent from my perspective.
Miller is a well above average defender in one-on-one situations. Situations that require him to use his skating, stick work, body- so long as it’s one opponent at a time.
When he’s making judgements spatially, on the other hand, including gap control and angles to deal with passes and multiple opponents, he struggles. Kind of the anti-Fox defensively in that way

There is no underlying metric that measures this, so it gets handwaved by some like its not important.

I am highly doubtful that Drury is going to trade Miller, followed by trading Trouba and then letting Lindgren walk as a UFA. At a certain point, it's better to make a small change and see how it works. Lindgren is the guy for me. Find a suitable replacement for this season and beyond. Jones and Mancini appear to be players. Trading Lindgren opens up cap space and brings back some assets. It also allows for more growing time for those younger guys so the team can see what they have in them.

Quinn Hughes is probably one of the softest players in the nhl. And yet he’s one of the best defenders in the league.
Fox is charmin soft, and he’s our best defenseman.
Show me the impact of body language and I’ll care about it.
awareness on the ice is necessary and it’s one of the weaker parts of his game.
As someone else pointed out, when 1:1 with a forward he’s a monster and when he’s trying to manage gaps and outnumbered he’s poor at reading the play.

That's sort of the issue. Take aways and give aways are poorly tracked in the NHL. But if you want to use them, Miller isn't near the top of your defenders when it comes to giveaways. However, the ones that happen are so noticeable and fans start clenching their butt checks every time there's a mistake, hoping it doesn't end up in the back of the net.
The other issue is less about defending and more preventing having to defend. For a good skater he's not that shifty on his edges and doesn't see the open player fast enough to move the puck to an open space, or at least the right open space.

Wake me when Miller scores at a point per game pace like Hughes or Fox.
And when I see bad body language from a guy who hasnt materially improved in 5 years, it doesnt shock me that he's still the same average player he was at 20.

When everyone screams “eye test” and calling him out worst defender, when we have far worse defenders, who are true eye test fails.
I’ll point out you must be looking at something very specific.
