It takes some real mental gymnastics to think that physical engagement and accountability among teammates dont matter to a team's 5 on 5 play. It is easier I guess to just throw your hands up and say everyone on the team sucks, rather than acknowledge its a real problem.

I have been thinking a JT for Mika (Bozo for Bozo) trade might make sense. JT is a no bullshit guy. Seemingly a bit too much for Vancouver. Maybe Mika woudnt mind going out West with his family on a team where he can play second fiddle to another Swede in EP.

Let’s keep a few things in mind here Gerard Gallant wanted to punch Drury in the face and had to be restrained in the playoffs.

There’s only Drury up top there’s no help there’s no assistant GM - no veteran sounding board no player guru.

Drury traded for Sammy Blais - Jack Roslovic - Alex Wennberg - we could go on.

Drury went public with Jacob Trouba’s business - he leaked the fact that his wife was a factor in not agreeing to waiving his no trade class. How do you think that sits with the rest of the Rangers in that locker room who are loyal to their captain and are all union guys?

He chopped Barclay Goodruw off the roster like he wasn’t a respected veteran who just ripped it up in the playoffs for the hockey team.
Huge issue im sure of it.

The yo-yoing with Matt Rempe ? These guys know the Rangers are sabotaging his career.

This is becoming a dysfunctional organization.

And the recycled coach has no answers.

Lest we forget Kris Knoblauch and Scott Arniel and Mike Sullivan.

His lack of physical engagement is an issue when it comes to his play. He rarely plays through contact, preferring to reach in his puck battles. He's had that habit for a long time and it kills him on 50/50 plays.

Whether or not he put a guy in a headlock is a completely different thing.

I thought the scrum was entertaining and it's good that a guy like Cuylle will get into that, because it's fun, but I don't think it's super relevant to winning games that every guy does that.

Trouba is a performative leader who loves to throw tantrums and land big hits. Meanwhile, I don't think there's a lazier player in the league in his own zone.

We're talking about two different things here.

We actually aren't even seeing the tantrums or the big hits anymore. That's kinda the point.

Nothing to spark the team. Nothing even performative to demonstrate any shred of giving a shit about turning this around. Not only do they suck at hockey, they're all checked out.

this teams problem is that they have one good defenseman. the forward core is pretty good. they look like they suck and dont care because the defense core is one of the worst in the league. they could've fixed this in the offseason but they decided to keep Trouba and bring back Lindgren. Carolina signed a whole defensive pair for like $7mil AAV and its one of the best pairs in the league. the option was there. now Drury is trying to trade Kreider for some reason? he needs to be fired.

The worst 5v5 habits that the biggest offenders have were all always there. I don't care what Zibanejad did when he was shooting over 20%. People pointed it out, nobody wanted to listen, and now it's "what happened to Zibanejad?"

We probably should have committed to riding out a longer rebuild, or if we wanted to accelerate it, make aggressive moves for legit players. Instead, we locked up a core that was never going to beat Stanley Cup caliber teams in a series, and said "this is what we're going into battle with." Inevitable result.

At the end of the day, that's it. That's what happened.

People can say mockingly "well I guess the whole team just sucks!!!" and like, nobody said the whole team, but yeah, their 1C and 3 of their top 4 defenseman all suck ass. That might as well be the whole team.

All they've done is won and you beat the locker room culture drum the entire time. You can't have that both ways.

My plan is simple.

Zibanejad, Lindgren, Trouba, Miller. Huge roles, all garbge.

Remove the garbage from huge roles.

Granted, that's easier said than done, and the execution requires steps that I can't give you, because I don't have the numbers of the GM's, but that's basically the title of the book.

Hockey really isn't as complex as we try to make it.

They've won because they were (and are) a good and very talented team. They've ultimately not gotten it done in the playoffs because their leaders wilt when adversity hits. Every playoff series we've lost with this core was one that we had a series lead.

We have 3-4 legitimately bad and overpaid players, you'll find no argument from me there. the sooner Trouba and Lindgren are gone and Mika is demoted, the quicker we can get back to being a Cup contender. Drury needs to make that happen in-season or it's going to be someone else's job this summer. It's not even Thanksgiving yet.
