I know I’m in the minority, but I’d move Panarin off this team in a heartbeat and replace him with Othmann. Panarin tends to disappear in the playoffs when the game tightens up. With no time and space, it’s like the ice swallows him up—you’d practically need to call the cops to track him down.

IDK how people can play a game where half the player stats look like they were created by a computer random number generator only programmed to spit out multiples of 5.

No flavor at all. Friggin Rick Nash had higher skating speed than Kreider for years. It's more a game of chess or halo than a sports simulation

Switch up the lines for real, and start playing with some directness and anger.
This is the only thing that matters and if they didn't do it last year they're not doing it with an extra year of wear on their bodies.

The top guys just don't have that dog in them.

It'll be a good season but this is not a serious team for extended periods when push comes to shove. Enjoy the RS.

Trocheck, Lafreniere and Kreider were easily our 3 best forwards in the playoffs last year.
sure and 3,4 and 7th highest forward cap hits.

There’s a valid point that your best players should be your best players in the playoffs.

Mcdavid damn near carried Edmonton on his back. Mackinnon is a monster in the playoffs. Barkov was fantastic.

Mika disappeared. Panarin scores but soft goals and rarely clutch.

Whose expecting Mika to be a beast in the playoffs. Everyone knows by now he's an overpaid PP specialist who's bad defensively.

Would be much more concerned with Fox's play injury or not. Some ppl here have called him the best defencemen in the NHL, his playoffs were laughable.

Except when we extended him, that’s not what he was. He was good at both 5v5 and was a plus defender (not Bergeron, but trusted to keep matchups even at worst)

And here we go with the Fox concern.
Fox is a smaller, slower defenseman who relies on hockey iq to be one of the best offensive and defensive players at his position.
when he suddenly becomes half a step slower or more, none of that works.
I’ll be concerned with Fox when he has a bad game healthy.

Essentially where I am at. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt last season and it was a great regular season and another enjoyable run. But the ECF was a carbon copy of 2022 against Tampa, just with a different coach.

MAYBE some locker room turmoil with Trouba essentially calling out with the "last chance" stuff sparks them, but most of the preseason Ive watched has been familiar. I do see potential in the young group of players we have. Why not let Rempe, Othmann, Edstrom and Mancini all make the team? So Vesey and Brodzinki and Lindgren can be "glue guys" who contribute nothing and get the shit kicked out of them? Thats what a team who wants to raise its ceiling would do.

Guys who win 1v1 battles all over the ice will drastically improve the 5v5 play. It's simple math when you think about it. Hitting, forecheck, drawing penalties, leads to scoring chances. We're too soft physically when you get to the later rounds against real contenders. McDavid would flattened us if we lucked past Florida.

Only sick pups are those beating a dead horse

I accept the moniker

The PP is predictable against teams that actually know how to kill penalties. I dont care that they go 3/5 against Columbus on a Tuesday in January. Playoff opponents have a lifetime worth of tape on us. The Canes and Panthers both adjusted and we had no answers because we only tried it one way for 100+ games. No need to spaz out over it. Shouldnt the team be making attempts to find new wrinkles? Or keep doing the same shit? They won't even change up the even strength lines, man. Look up the definition of insanity.
I did look up the definition of insanity. It says here taking inspiration from idiots like Bill Simmons is the definition of insanity. Congratulations.
