With Lindgren look for silver linings. It's fairly obvious in any case he's going to unrestricted free agency next year. If he's out of the lineup for the while then we get to see other guys and to be honest I'd rather Fox were paired with larger and stronger partner than Ryan.....and my first guess is they'll pair him with K'Andre. They'll pair Jones with either Trouba or Schneider and the 6th guy will be any of Mancini, Mackey, Harpur, Robertson, Scanlin with Ruhwedel the 7th guy. Other teams deal with injuries...they find out more about their players doing so. I don't necessarily think that the guy replacing Lindgren will be a massive downgrade or that Ryan is even a key piece of our team.

Mancini has played LD according to Lavy...early season is perfect time for meritocracy...including any forward who is better than current KK...its not like we can hurt his confidence any further...its rock bottom

Why would anyone trade a young potential Dman for Kakko right now?

He has good underlying metrics, so maybe some team thinks they can fix him? My observation has been that Kakko is absolutely awful at turning possession into scoring chances, so his numbers make perfect sense in that context. But again, maybe another team sees something I don't.

I think there are plenty of teams around the league who would love to take a shot at him, but that's not the same as his nominal value atm.

The Rangers shouldnt be panic trading anyone because Ryan Lindgren, of all players, is hurt. Lots of talk about trading Kakko but why? Because we dont like him? Berard and Othmann arent ready. Keep the depth, the defense will be absolutely fine until they make a meaningful move at the deadline for one. I feel like people forget we won the President's trophy last year. The playoffs are not in doubt unless we lose half the team to injury.

problem with Giordano is that once Lindgren comes back, Jones gets squeezed. Coaches don't like Jones types

f***ing Kakko is making 2.4 million. If he continues his defensive play and puts up the numbers he has shown he is capable of, 0.5ppg at EV, he's still a good value. If he was a second rounder instead of second overall we'd all be pretty happy. People are letting their disappointment over his performance in relation to draft position bias their opinions. We are ALL disappointed... that doesn't mean he NEEDS to be dealt. A defensive specialist who scores 40 points is valuable.

Right. Im disappointed by Kakko and he's by no mean's untouchable. But, like, let's not lose sight of the fact that hes an NHL caliber player, which Othmann and Berard (aka his replacements) are not currently.

It just goes back to the whiners and complainers getting confused that just because we havent shown we can win a Cup (yet) with this group, doesnt mean we all of a sudden suck because no shiny new toy walked in the door over the summer. People will get the changes they want next summer in all likelihood, but you don't punt on Cup window seasons because the team hurt your feelings the year before (they won the President's trophy and lost to the eventual Cup champs in the ECF). Entitled fanbase remains entitled. News at 11.

Othmann is of course also the youngest of the bunch… you think Edstrom looked this good two years ago? And Berard didn’t outplay him tonight IMO.

I see Othmann in a couple of years as something we’ve been short of for ages: middle six forward that can put the puck in the net and plays a mean physical game.

The problem is Othmann is not likely to be on the team if it takes another couple of years. Now don't get me wrong, 23 turning 24 doesn't sound too old, but I don't see them waiting that long with him. I think it's far more likely he ends up delt if this time-frame is going to be another couple of years before he can be a regular, trusted player. I don't see the opportunity for him to be a regular roster player right now, where the organization shows patience with him making a lot of mistakes.

I'm not making any predictions. I'm just saying his not making THIS team at 21 doesn't worry me. And if he is dealt for good value that is fine. I'm just not on board with the posters who just assume a guy who hasn't made it as an NHL regular, especially a team with our level of success, by 21 is a lost cause...

Seems like there's some Othmann hate on here since last season. Not sure why? He seems to be developing nicely. What I like is he seems to be a player that has some bite to his game. He can score goals.

It's not hate. The biggest issue is that his development didn't improve as much as many hoped it would. He's young and that could obviously change with opportunity or maturity... but the bite to his game and scoring touch were always there and the reason he went in the first round. That's not development. It's hard to point to other areas of his game and say "Othmann has developed quite nicely there."

In order to stick on an NHL roster and grab that opportunity to continue developing while playing in the NHL, the coaching staff has to trust putting you on the ice. (Especially with a vet coach like the one we have)

I view Othmann as a player who will eventually want a trade if he's not even the 1st call-up option. It's hard to evaluate our prospects because most of the team looks soo bad at times and you only get a small positive glimpse to judge, other than watching the players get lost in their own zone and make forced turnovers. I do like the accountability in recognizing that had a sloppy game against the Islanders, and making the roster might get him to settle down a little because you're not just over thinking trying and make the team.

As to TOR, its easy.
Ex doesn't kick in til next season. Zib is 8 + Shesty what, 5.6 this last yr?
Nylander = don't remember exactly, wanna say 10+?
This doesn't include any other pieces possibly coming here or going elsewhere, like Lilj.
So the dif this yr is entirely doable.
Next season they have to create cap.
Marner gonna be a Leaf for life?

I think Shesterkin is worth 11.75M x 8 years. I want to win a Cup and I think he’s capable of stealing 1-2 games a round in the playoffs. That’s immense.

Issue is not what he is worth. Someone who can will pay him top top $, whatev that # is.
Issue is not performance. Consistency is acceptably sufficient + and production is excellent.

Issue is reality of a hard cap, which is not going away.
That = opportunity cost of
restrictions on roster vs roster flexibility

we can gamble on Garand to not be as good as shesty, but good enuf

but we need cap room for KAM LaF Schneider etc etc etc raises
eventually moving Trouba + prob last minute bread will help, but Shesty is LONG TERM SCTRUCTURAL cap, big $$$$ single hit cannot be divided

As hard as I am on Panarin, and as doubtful I am that this team wins with him as the top paid go to guy, good lord does the lineup look disgusting without him.

Just wait until that core is finished and you have to piece the roster together. Fans will definitely get a view of why NYR might be in win now mode...

Does Lindgren have a concussion or is it the shoulder again?

It's rare you will see teams label a concussion with being out "at least 4-6 weeks", especially the day after. So, if I pull out my internet Dr. degree, I'd say it's more likely something else. A broken hand takes 1-2 months to heal. A shoulder injury can vary and his shoulders are held together by Elmer's glue, probably.

Say Cap is $92, this skeleton roster would leave us with roughly $32.5 million before signing Laf, Miller, Jones, Cuylle. Assuming Cuylle and Jones are bridge deals in the $1.5M range and Laf gets $8M, Miller gets $6. Remove $17M million from the $32.5M and you're left with $15.5M.

You want to commit $12M of our final $15M to to Shesterkin when he hasn't been able to get the job done with better teams than he'd have when he leaves only $3M to fill RW1 and LD1?

Thats called cap suicide my friend and would set this team back a decade. I'd far rather spent $5-$7M on a diff goalie or acquire via trade...and have nearly $8M-$10M to fill the other 2 roster spots....but that's just me

Maybe you want to go back to having Jesper Fast in the top 6, but I don't...

I see another year in Hartford followed by playing RW with Cuylle and Chytil next season. Clearly needs another year in professional hockey

His shot has value for PP2 and he brings a level of physicality that would really complement Cuylle on the other wing

I know I'm on an island here, but Cuylle is someone who's on the bubble for me and at the very least shouldn't be a lock on the 3rd line.

Think guys like Edstrom and Berard especially with their speed, even Othmann for the scoring upside, should be in direct competition with WIll for that spot. Lavy should be thinking about Cuylle as 4LW with Carrick/Brod and Rempe IMO.

Just don't see what Cuylle adds in a top 9 role right now. He really got away from the game he started last year with, straight lines, chip and chase past defensemen, hitting anybody he could. The energy hasn't been there since Nov/Dec IMO and the rest of his skillset is really vanilla. Think those other three might have more to contribute in a top 9 spot.

I don't think he's done. He's still very young and has time to cook. I think I soured a bit because he came into rookie camp saying he was gonna prove his doubters wrong which was weird. I was like "he has doubters?" so after he made such a big deal about and isn't really showing up during pre-season, I have doubts about his self-awareness. Does he think his current play is NHL worthy? Also, the rise of Gabe Perrault , Edstrom, and Rempe organizationally gives us room the wiggle-room to trade Brenden. We have those bottom 6 ELCs that help balance out our top heavy cap.
