I'm really loving the new Larry Brooks.

This last piece seems theres a bit more to it then speculation.

His source is probably Sather or someone in upper management. Brooks wrote he has it “on good authority” that the Rangers are planning to make major changes. Sather always talks to Larry.

I think mcdonagh at his cap hit for a year and a half brings back:
-1st round
-1st round
-quality prospect

Zucc should return:
-2nd
-2nd
-middling prospect

McD will get a top prospect ready to make the jump next year or a very good NHL level player on an ELC plus a first.

With the direction the Rangers are going in, they can retain 50% on both McD and Zucc. Both those guys for 2 playoff runs at a cap hit around $2.25MM? Value will be through the roof.

I don’t think we’ll be able to get all that for Mcdonagh because every team seems to be so in on the youth and building for the long run

He is a piece that can be added to a young core for the long run. Can't have all kids playing. His experience in the playoffs and skill set can be used to mentor the younger players on a contender.

Remember he's 28 years old and will be 29 next season.

A team like Carolina has so much youth, they can trade some of it away. Same goes for Winnipeg. There are teams who can afford to trade away bluechip prospects for top-pair defense

Was the last time a very good to star player dealt at the deadline that has another year left? Yandle? It doesn't happen too frequently unless my mind is failing me this morning.

Zucc will have a 1st in his trade unless the prospect or young NHL player coming back has very high potential.

I think Colorado would be a good landing spot for McDonagh. They have some solid young assets and three first round picks in the next two drafts. McD and EJ would make a solid first pair.

According to Friedman they may be trading Barrie so if they were going that direction I doubt they'd make a trade for McD. Who knows though.

Why would Colorado want to trade any of their young guys when they’re not anywhere near a contender

Staal was also an elite center who was having a down year. That’d be pretty near zuccarellos production

So by that comparison, they'd be equal. Staal was having the worst year of his career if I remember right.

Zucc having that extra year of control plus the ability to have retention would have his value over Staal.

I think you are a Staal type deal for Nash.

The speculation was that Staal was "done" in a lot of NHL circles. I don't think anyone is talking about Zuccarello being "done" + he's got a year+ left on a friendly contract.

I think he gets more that what Staal got for Carolina. We'll see.

I don’t think either of those teams are a Defenseman away. Especially Carolina. Carolina is more of a spot for zucc than mcdonagh

Tampa seems to be a good trade partner for Zuccarello in my opinion. They should be buyers at the deadline. Get Zuccarello for 1.5 years at 50% retained can be huge for them.

Rangers should be looking for:
  • McD: Top prospect And 1st or Very good young NHL player and a pick.
  • Zucc: Good prospect and a 1st.
  • Nash: Two seconds plus a prospect.
  • Grabner: 1st.
  • Holden: 3rd.
  • DD: mid round pick.
