it is kinda funny how the one thing we all agree we needed was strong skating professional defensemen and the guys we all wanted, chyrun, dillon, roy, and walker (pesce, gostisbehere) all went in division, to the teams in division that are our most recent playoff opponents. just straight up scampered en masse to our rivals.
meanwhile, at 34th and 7th... Trouba holding the rangers hostage
It won't ruin Drurys and slats and Dolan's holidays. No wonder players don't want to sign here.

I would have LOVED Roy at that price. Instant upgrade over Trouba.
Need a 7th D for sure . Ruewedhl you would think makes sense but there’s a few options
AHL call ups Robertson , Harpur , Mackey , Scanlin so they won’t add there
Upfront try and get a bargain guy like Atkinson ? Maybe Barbanov as he was rumoured at the deadline
Roslovic likely gets too much but he is still around
Trouba did nothing wrong by not submitting his NTC list until July 1. His agent strategically picked teams which would not trade for him. 15 teams this season and 12 teams next season.
We have no way of knowing this but Gorton would have done a better job than Drury putting the final pieces together. Drury doesn't know what he is doing. First time GM. Drury has traded a million draft picks and hasn't filled one hole on the roster.
All of those players are not very good except for Pesce. Chychrun has been traded twice in the last 16 months. It seems the fans like him more than the actual teams. Carolina got worse yesterday swapping out Skjei and Resce for Walker and Ghost. $4M for Dillon. It would take people two seconds to rip that deal. A 6 year deal for Roy? He will be available for trade in one year.

Who is replacing a 37 year old winger, a 31 year old overpaid 4C, a 25 year old Ryan Lindgren, and 30 year old who is the oldest guy on defense. They probably have the youngest top 6 in the league.
The Rangers are right in the middle of the league as far as age goes and it's a pretty good bet that Jones is now a top 6, Othmann will be given a serious look and Berard is on the verge.
The Rangers aren't an old team.

most of those guys are meh or subpar, and in isolated instance where any is an instant upgrade, the prob is these guys not gonna take 1-2 yr deals, w'o trade protection, even if you overpay.
Given that, best option is not sign and create prob down the road
Develop from within, BUILD, and if opportunity knocks, be prepared w/available resources + cap space
Scanlin is our go to if/when we deal Lindy for picks, which is nec including to make a statement to Zib, bread, etc
Scan would be first guy to crack roster if Lindy still here
Harpur solid clear the crease, not a pylon but room to improve skating. Focus, work hard on that. He's yr 7th. Fine w/Schneid
Robertson is x factor

He MUST be brought up, growing pains and all, and broken in. If he is truly a bust, then let us know this asap, and move on. But that is NOT know.

WSH was blowing money like a NBA draft pick, I guess they are giving 1 more go of it for the OV,Wilson crowd.
I like some of the players they got, but the years are lengthy on some of these older FA’s.
Devs paid a lot for Dillion and a busted up Pesce. Pesce is solid but has been declining a bit over the last 2 seasons and his durability issues are becoming worse with age.
The moves should help their young D in the short term though.
They are paying an awful lot of money for Pesce/Dillion/hamilton.
The isles are the isles…. They are an old team with no farm that will continue battling for a wildcard spot.
As far as Chychrun goes, I think the word is out on him…
The only thing he does really well is shoot the puck. He is average to below average at everything else he does. Hes not very physical and on top of all that he’s going to be looking for a raise at the end of the season.
Don’t be surprised if WSH has him this year and he moves on to yet another team at the end of the season.
I think Drury would have liked to snag Guentzel if Trouba Deal went thru….. Tampa trading a 3rd for a 1 day advantage reeks of knowledge that other teams in the east were looking to snag him.
They see him as a younger alternative to stammer. Their offensive is going to be pretty formidable.
All and all, I’m happy we didn’t go crazy.
We’ll have our time coming up in the near future… they need to lock up shesty, Laf,miller, Schneider, and make a decision on Lindgren. In the short term he’ll be signed, but that doesn’t mean he’ll finish the entire new contract he signs with the team.
The next 1-2 seasons Drurys most important…. His moves will either lament this team as a powerhouse in the east for years, or another pretender that can get by with goal tending/special teams and fail in the playoffs.
Evaluating which young guys are really going to come up and make an impact in that timeframe is key.
Kakko/chytil/Lindgren will all possibly be on their way out with Panarin/trouba timeframe, but it’s not going to happen in 1 offseason.
The decision on Kreider will also be looming.

Lavi should ride his young horses and play the shit out of Laf-Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko . Those guys are young and will relish the extra quality minutes.....and the team the better for it in the long run . Sink or swim . No more coddling the old guys like Mika/Kreider and Panarin . It will make or break Kakko but it is what it is and with Perreault looming on the horizon we need to know but at the same time it might help Cuylle and Chytil . The young guys will provide more jump/effort and I assume wear down the defenders , If Kreider and Mika end up on a line 3 it is not a big deal other than some wounded pride . If anything it might also help them as they will face less talented players . I'm not sure how lines would be done.......but it is not the worst thing to have happen for all of them if it improves our pace of play and overall on ice demeanor .
This is one of those sentences that you could only get on HFNYR, and the kind of thing that makes the off-season madness all worthwhile

That would be a good thing. Why would we want anyone to sign here when we instantly regret it and get held hostage while we fail in the playoffs due to underperformance from our 2 mercenaries?

Drury was smart/lucky to stay above the fray in free agency yesterday. Many of these deals are very obvious albatrosses even today. Too much money given to bottom 6ers and 3rd pair D. I thought the Carrick and Smith moves made sense for our needs. The price of the brick on Lafreniere and Miller is going up.
The Trouba situation is what we all suspected. The country club is now out in the open. I understand Trouba needs to do whats right for his family, but Drury needs to do what's right for the Rangers. Its hard to find a fan or media person who wouldnt agree that paying a 3rd pair defenseman 8 million a year is hamstringing us big time. Not to mention he flat out hasnt been good in any of the 3 playoff runs with him (4 I guess if you count the bubble). Who knows how it shakes out the rest of the summer, but whether Mr. Tyson-Trouba is here or not, the window of opportunity to improve the team in a meaningful way for next year is pretty much gone.
That said, we are still a very good team and the favorite in the Metro. But I am resigned at this point to running out the clock on the Trouba/Panarin era. It didnt work. I hope the second shoe to drop with the Goodrow/Trouba shenanigans is that our 20 year old players start to have bigger roles and opportunity than our 30 year olds. There's absolutely no reason to dump Chytil or Kakko given the events of the last week. Othmann, Edstrom and Berard all deserve real shots to make the roster. Right now our highest ceiling improvement is from our own youth. If we somehow win a Cup in the next 2 years, it will be glorious. But I think our better chances will come when the albatrosses we already have are gone.

Gorton would have definitely traded a first for Kane. Just like he traded assets for Trouba to then sign to a massive deal, and how he traded assets to get Adam Fox who was probably coming here anyway. Both guys were trained by Sather. Draft picks optional mentality. I dont really have an issue with that, its just how they both operate. Gorton traded a first rounder and a 3rd for Kirby dach like last year, I dont think we are better off with him
I think Stevie Y got screwed here too. Detroit looks like a pretty incomplete team on the backend imo. Our only hope might be Yzerman, Mr. Tyson-Trouba and Drury sitting down to hash things out.

Saw that the Rangers qualified Lindgren and Schneider. Lindgren’s qualifying number is 3.6M. I could stomach that if they weren’t also paying Trouba 8M.

For the price he went, there isn’t another move Drury could have made that would have cleared up so many issues. Like, even if you don’t move Trouba…. Jones could remain 7th D. Adding Chychrun would have been just what the D needs.

Players running the team. It's unbelievable. Looking at Tampa with McD and Stammer and Florida with Huberdeau and Weegar and Vegas...all the successful teams have done these kind of moves.

Can’t remember who suggested it yesterday, but Kulak and McLeod would both be very good targets if EDM is stuck in a cap bind. Kulak made both Cody Ceci and Darnell Nurse look competent at times last year, which is no easy feat. Not a lot of offense to his game, but he’s always been a solid 5v5 player and PKer outside of the one terrible year last season
