Strome and Panarin BOTH had career years playing with each other, it makes 0 sense to let him walk.

Careful. Any suggestion that Panarin benefited from playing with Strome is subject to the ire of many.

Just messaged my friend who is a great guy and a really knowledgeable Islander fan and hockey fan as well.
He informed me the year (2014/15) that Ryan Strome scored 50 points that Strome was centered by John Tavares. Ryan also was on their Power Play unit. As far as the other wing on that line he believed it was Kyle Okposo.

Indeed, there is every chance they will give Filip Chytil first crack at that assignment this season. In that case, Strome would be an insurance policy; an expensive one, too.

Nothing too terribly surprising there.

The Rangers would love for Chytil to take the ball and absolutely run with it this season.

Walking away would certainly be an interesting choice, but I would be at least a little surprised if the Rangers didn’t just bite the bullet on a higher price tag for one season as an insurance policy.

The funny thing about the Panarin/Strome chemistry is that Panarin scored at a higher rate with Chytil than Strome last year. And yes, it's a small sample only 100+ mins, but isn't that chemistry? There's no evidence of it not working because when they tried it briefly it did work. And yet somehow we're always told "Oh, we don't know if Chytil is ready to play with Panarin or if he can handle it" etc. Well it has happened and it has already worked really well.

I made this point the last time that there was a Strome scuffle on here. People are always searching for Mr. or Mrs. Right. That is all well and good but until you find them, there is certainly nothing wrong with Mr or Mrs Right Now. And that is what Strome is. Not perfect, not in your long term plan, but is there and available and is a means to a way. And every now and then, you need to bring such a person a present. So a higher price tag for one year, would hardly be the end of the world.

I imagine that whoever is the other middle-six C, there will be some swapping of lines throughout the season.
