If that's the case I hope Panarin goes in Rooney's spot on the Chytil line upon his return.

Could give us some well needed balance.
I would rather move laf down and put panarin with zib because zib needs some major help right now.

Will get very interesting (and crowded) when Kravtsov arrives:

Bread - Mika - Buch
Kreider - Strome - Kakko
Laf - Chytil - Gauthier/Blackwell
Lemieux - Rooney/Howden - PDG

Also becoming clearer and clearer that the risk of paying out bonus overages to NYR players on ELC:s, that will defer above the actual cap hits resulting in carry over penalties for next season, is NOT Going to happen = CAPSPACE!
Does it make sense to swap Bread and Laf? Obviously having Panarin on the 3rd line is weird, but hear me out...

- More balanced top 3 lines
- Keep Laf/Mika/Buch together, which seems to be working
- Keep Kreider/Strome together, which also seems to be working
- Could increase Chytil trade value if his production increases next to Panarin

TBH if you're worried about Panarin's minutes you can throw him in some double shifts on the 4th line occasionally and have him play closer to each full PP.

I'm very pro all of these things you've recommended, though I think Panarin-Chytil-Gauthier chemistry could also improve their games regardless of whether they end up getting traded. If Panarin gains chemistry with Chytil that could really expand our options for future lineups.

Additionally, Panarin could put Gauthier in opportunistic scoring positions more often. Goat has always been a guy who scored more goals than assists, so he could be the designated finisher.

That 3 RW spot is like custom made for Kravtsov finishing the season in style. Maybe have Kreider on the opposite wing for veteran leadership.

If it were up to me I still like:

Kreider-Chytil-Kakko
Panarin-Zibanejad-Blackwell
Lafreniere-Strome-Buch
Lemieux-Rooney-Gauthier
Howden, DiGi

I think Gauthier would be scratched more often than not. You just scratched 2 of our PKers and Martin likes to rotate a lit of guys so they can stay aggressive.

I like Blackwell and would like to keep him if it works out. He's almost like Fast or Namestnikov was for us in that he could play anywhere. He also has a nice shot that could feed well off Panarin and gives us more balance.

Laf - Zib - Buch
Kreider - Strome - Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Blackwell
Lemmy - Howden - Rooney/Gauthier/PDG

Also, small sample size, but Blackwell can win face-offs. Why has he only taken 9?

Kravtsov arriving makes things complicated.

Rooney is pretty bad too imo. No idea why Blackwell would even be an option though, he’s better than Howden, Rooney and Gauthier. at least Gauthier playing has some development logic
Yeah I am shocked Gauthier wasn't gonna head back to street clothes. Glad he's still being given a chance.
I mean I guess he could still be the scratch tomorrow???

I've gotten the sense that while they are very happy with what Rooney and others have done, they aren't completely married to them either. I would imagine there's more comfort with an established bottom six player, than more of the journeyman type who surprise you with their play in the role.

Having said that, I don't see them hellbent on making a deal there. Just something they are tracking.

Right now, they are focused on getting Panarin back, along with Trouba, getting Chytil at full speed again, getting Kakko back and potentially adding Kravtsov, or even Barron.
Don’t see JJ or smith leaving at the deadline?

If we were going to trade for Eichel - what would that look like? How many pieces are we talking. I need to prepare.

I don't know any better than anyone else, but my bet would be

Buchnevich
Chytil
Lundkvist
1st round pick

Obviously I'm opposed to it.

If Stome keeps playing like this Strome for Eichel straight up :sarcasm:

Seriously tho who the heck knows. Buffalo would be better off waiting the year out.
