I don't understand Gorton. He has all these skilled players including young players and almost no tough physical players to protect them. Then he trades away the only guy who would fight in Lemieux and does not trade for anybody. Instead of the likes of DiGiuseppe there should have been some tough player that can fight.
I think our management got caught out putting too much stock into the NHLs marketing material. They forgot it’s still hockey.
Let’s give Gauthier boxing lessons and protect him

I understand the rationale of not moving picks during a rebuild, and I'm against trading 1st rounders unless you're on the cusp and getting a guy with term but it's time that Gorton starts looking for some soldiers. Guys like Avery, Prust, Boyle, and even a Dorsett. Nothing mind blowing or that would cost a ton, but just fit in as reliable 3rd or 4th liners that can give you 2-4 years of solid play that other teams just don't want to deal with. Guys that maybe cost a 3rd round pick and/or mediocre prospect...
Prust. Yes. That squad and that line were fantastic.

Being harder to play against is a lot more than just adding a goon or two. One thing that struck me is that in the recent series against the Islanders (as well as the play in series vs. Carolina) is that they hit our smaller defensemen all night long. That's a very good strategy but it also means that your forwards have to step up their game. Robust backchecking and engagement can really neutralize that strategy.

The Rangers still need a lot of pieces and a lot more depth. I expect quite a bit of turnover in the bottom third of the roster this summer.

Fortunately they have the most important box of any rebuild checked. Elite Talent.

Yes Isles started Martin and he proceeded to seek Fox and was successful in landing a hard hit.

This legit crossed my mind. I just wonder what the backlash would be. The NHL would best be served to ignore it and let the buzz die down. $1m fine or a forfeited pick will probably make this situation unmanageable.
I mean whats another million?

we already subsidize half the league

When Avery arrived both times, he altered the team in good ways. The team became engaged, assertive, ill tempered. They didn't fly by, or leave post whistle scrums first.

Klein was a guy that did not let you poke the goalie, or stand over him.

These aren't big dudes. They just demystified the side games. A lot of this stuff is just big talk. Getting punched doesn't hurt that much. If Klein walks around like he's not intimidated, maybe I can mix it up too.

I also think there is an overlap with work ethic. If you don't cheat on the details, if you play honestly, you aren't going to skip the hits. You aren't going to let them one up you after the whistle. You are going to protect each other because you are all invested.

It's not the hit to the wallet. It's the comparison. $5k for the guillotine take down and punch. No mention of throwing panarin to the ice, head first by pulling his hair. But a 7 figure fine for disagreeing? The optics are terrible and people hate Wilson. NYR won't even have to respond again. The Isles and other rivals are already backing us.

Darren Dreger on TSN 690 radio, just said that he spoke to 2 NHL team executives and another management person and all 3 said that they believed the Rangers statement was ridiculous. That's 3 teams that are not on board with what the Rangers did and basically said that the team didn't have a way to respond on the ice, so they issue a statement to protect the team. NHL is a joke!

Washington, NYI and NJD.

Well maybe not NYI with their history with Wilson but that sounds like a dino-Lou kind of statement.

Don't let the Tom Wilson's of the world goad you into making foolish moves in regards to toughness, hopefully they remember the 2010 Gaborik incident and the subsequent failure to reach for toughness.

That said, I really think there's no way we pass on Zach L'Hereux at #15 in the draft :D

It was ridiculous.

No other NHL team is going to publicly support it. The Rangers are not going to support another team if they end up in a situation like this and make a statement. There is no realistic outcome from them doing this that benefits them at all. Rangers are terrible at game theory, they like to put themselves in positions where the outcomes at best can be meh, and at worst will be detrimental to them.

When its all said and done the Rangers do have an answer are far as a personal addition for tonite. Dress 7 D men and put in Mason Geersten. Quinns call

Put some cement in this wet noodle for a game.

Dreger saying some teams gave the eye roll for Ranger management deflecting blame in regards to the polyana lineup dressed Monday.
This has Brian Burke written all over it. Guarantee he is one of the anonymous contributors.

Wonder if he used the word "truculence". If he was our GM, Mason would of had a limo at his apartment by midnight.

The anonymous NHL execs saying the Rangers statement is bad is laughable

let’s see these guys talk when a buffoon almost fatally injuries their Hart candidate

If something like this were to happen to McDavid or Matthews Canadian media would be looking to execute Tom Wilson at center ice prior to a game

Gary had to step in and do Parros job for him last time around with Wilson. Everyone knows the DoPS is a joke, the Rangers just put their voice to it.

I mean give me a break

No it wasn't. Ballsy yes, ridiculous no. What is ridiculous is the so called dept of player safety giving the 5 time suspended psycho a 5k fine for what he did. It just shows the NHL's incompetence knows no bounds. I've said it many times before. Great sport but horrible league.
