Unless the cap implications on performance bonuses shift (which it’s unclear if they will) the team has no money to sign anyone anyways

Again what you see is what you’re getting with this squad

Wouldn't mind giving a PTO to Matt Martin. I think he'd take it. Boomer and Sydney have been trying to get him to the Rangers for years.

But my first priority would be finding a way to sign Haula.

I think its been mentioned by a few people that the Islanders and Martin have a deal "in the desk drawer" which has yet to be formally announced, like their deal with Cory Schneider

They have money for anyone under ~1M since they could always be sent down or replace di giuseppe who can be sent down.

if we get extra space cause bonuses are pro-rated...first I think they will bank that cap space for trades if things don't work out. but if you are looking to add guys right now, the #1 target would be a LD, not a forward. and if you look to add forward depth we need guys that can play defense/pk. preferably someone that can play wing or center and maybe even win a face off. we don't need martin

Should have been all over that.

And before anyone says anything about the cap, you could have sent down Rooney and others to make him fit at that number.

Yea the guy who is an unknown and could be good or could be bad as opposed to the guy I know for certain is bad. Michal Frolik, who just signed with the Habs for 1x750k would have been a better 4th line option (as would Grabner if he plans to play).

Is Blackwell an unknown. He’s 28 in March and has 3 goals and barely 30 NHL games to his name. He’s your prototype 14 or 15 forward whose in the AHL until injuries strike. He’ll prob be on the taxi squad.

I’d be happy with Grabner and would’ve been happy with Frolik too at that price.

I’m not waving the Matt Martin flag - but I would like to see a vet or two added for the bottom 6. Preferably a guy who can kill penalties and/or brings some size and is difficult to play against.

Is there actually any chance of the league prorating the bonuses? I guess the Rangers could have talked to liaisons in the league office and gotten a "yeah it's probably gonna happen" or "don't think so." Just seems like a weird situation as players we could use start getting picked up.

That would’ve been a nice add.
I can understand Granlund being too expensive at the number he got, but Haula was very much affordable.

Still hoping they add a legitimate vet forward with experience to the bottom 6. There are still a lot out there.

Also not to beat a dead horse or anything, but we’re so tight on cap space, how the hell did Jack Johnson manage to get 1.1 million from us when other depth defenseman were getting under a million deals?

An extra couple 100K of cap space to work with would be real nice right about now

On the Henrik thing, I wonder if he caught COVID at some point in the last 9 months and it wasn’t publicly reported. And as they were doing physicals for the season ramp up they noticed something was off

would somewhat explain why this issue came up so suddenly

He’s gonna be essentially a coach this year we really should relax . Rangers are not winning a cup this year or going to spend to the cap w bonuses

Two things here

1) I don’t believe he’s going to be essentially be a coach. Jack Johnson is going to be getting consistent minutes at the NHL level
and
2)let’s say you’re correct and he’s a glorified coach, you’re telling me they couldn’t offer him the minimum for that? He’s been the worst defenseman in the league for the last few years, I can’t imagine teams were breaking down his door to offer him a contract
