I kinda of doubt the cap stuff is holding up all the trades at this point...this seems like the staredown point where teams are wrestling with pulling the trigger on a trade, asking for more, etc.

Still just terrible and an absolute no.

Final clarification that I’m just making an assumption around what a mega deal in play could be based on the insights in this thread. The insiders have said “it may feel like a lot to give up”. I’m not proposing it’s what we do.

I’m curious what people think “a lot” would be if we moved up for 7 overall and Nylander. What would the + be beyond Kreider and Vesey? Andersson?

Can we please sticky to the front page "Hey I've been in and out of meetings all day, please update the past 6 hours and 35 pages as briefly and concisely as possible. thnxsomuch". Get that request outta the way for everyone ;)
Edge titillating people.

GMs are fearful of the Rangers trades because Gorton has looked like a magician in the majority of transactions.
He's ball busting for a backbreaking deal until the last second when he finally 'concedes' and gives in aka gets the deal he really wanted all along

The thing with a lot of these draft trades, particularly if they are looking at pick 8, is there is likely a specific guy they want there (not that they wouldn't be happy with some others) so it may make more sense to wait until that pick is on the clock to see who is available.

For both parties

Tons of teams with contracts to dump and even the ones that can take on a few have contract they'd like to dump as well in the long run. Hard for even an accepting team to say yes without shuffling some cap back when the market for dumping is so costly come time for their own dumping.

I get the feeling he's open to a lot of different avenues and that he's not miserly the way some GMs seem to be.

I’m not saying they don’t like trading with Gorton, rather they will cross their t’s and dot their i’s 20 times over, perhaps leading to why no additional Rangers trades have been completed after the Trouba acquisition. Of course, any GM is that way anyway, but I would imagine with the recent success of Rangers trades and asset management, the other teams may feel more imposed to a buyers remorse.

Yes, and so probably more of an altruistic reputation. Hey, your [dumbass] mgmt forgot you need a goalie for NHL games? I got you. Need someone who didn’t just discover fire to play with McDavid? No prob. Want a refund on your deadline acquisition? Just show me the receipt.

Edit: it’s not just the number of teams and relationships, Gorton has consistently brought back great value in seemingly every trade. How many times have we seen other teams/fan bases baffled after missing out that their GM couldn’t offer something better? How long has Toronto been trying to get someone like Trouba?

I've got a friend from NY in town today and he doesn't like hockey. sigh. I'm still taking him to the Hockey Pub for the draft though.

What some people are overlooking is that the teams we are talking to probably have other teams that they are talking to also. There are probably lots of balls in the air. It's not like CK, Nams, and Vesey are the only available players out there. We just have to wait.
