I suspect there's the whole "well he's not signed longterm so he's basically a rental right??" thought happening as well as the Oilers still overvaluing their prospect/playe

Same thing applies to Trouba since Winnipeg didn't give anyone rights to negotiate an extension and certainly applies to Hayes at the trade deadline.

Not sure I'd call that a sweetheart deal. He just had his worst season to date only scoring 37 points. Thought he made out quite well making 7M, esp since he followed it up this season with just 40 points.

But no one knew that when he signed the deal. Shattenkirk? That was a sweat heart deal. Eberle? All these are different, but not every player looks for the absolute max.

I forgot the humor tags.
You'd be shocked how many people actually believe that "never hurts to ask" thing though. Like, yeah your high school math question never hurts to ask. But there are plenty of things in negotiations that hurt to ask and some people just really don't get that.

Also, a team that trades for Kreider has 2 full offseasons and a full season of play to negotiate an extension.

Shatty was 100% a sweat heart deal. Again though, I think he really regrets that. He got injured shortly after and who knows if he will be his old self, his next contract might be far less than what he could have gotten if he signed long term somewhere else.

We good, dude.

Buffalo should just trade their first rounder for CK and Vesey. Makes them a playoff team unless their goaltending really goes south. Florida and buffalo are two organizations that desperately need to make playoffs.

Problem is realistically he probably wouldn’t sign in most of these places (arizona, Edmonton, buffalo) but I guess u never know

Yes, yes they are. And multiple teams are interested in Kreider.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

I'm reminded of a client I worked with ten years ago. We're in a meeting and we're putting together a check list of all the cool environmentally friendly points we want to tout about a project and how we're really going to push this narrative to national media. At one point someone confirms that we've secured Al Gore for the grand opening ceremony and we discuss how he's going to talk about the ecological benefits as part of his speech. Sure enough, this one person raises her hand and asks why Al Gore is speaking about that particular subject.

You could almost feel the air go out of the room as everyone stopped and looked at her. After what felt like an eternity of silence, someone finally laid it out for her. Still remember like it was yesterday.

Point being, yes, sometimes it does indeed hurt to ask.

You asked for guys that accepted less than max deals, I gave you three players. Maybe Kreider would take less to stay, maybe he won't. Who knows.

Yo if they can get a late first for Vesey...damn. That’d be fire.
I don’t hate vesey as much as most on here do but you’re right. A first or second rounder (in a pretty good draft or 2020 draft) would be a tremendous deal for us
