I also think it’s important to consider to what extent a coach can work as part of a team as much as how good this coach is individually. I think Tocchet could be a good option in that regard too. Throw Dolan’s money around and bring in a really qualified and competent trio.

You’re on a roll tonight, bud. Lol!!

I've been up for 18 hours and I am trying to stretch it so I don't wake up in the middle of the night.

To stay awake I am watching how a guy a makes authentic leather belts for pro wrestling replica championships.

Apparently direct metal laser sintering is a thing, and I don't totally get it, but it's also really cool.

You gotta love stuff like that. I watched a video about traditional Japanese sword making. I was transfixed lol

Anyone find it strange that its all quiet on the "filling out the FO" front?

Friedman mentioned a few weeks back that there was significant interest around the league in coming to work for Drury/NYR, yet no rumors. No nothing.

I think he has his plan, though he hasn't revealed it.

An unscientific follow-up with people seemed to indicate excitement and apprehension, and not a lot of neutral opinions on things related to ye ol' Rangers. For many, the dust still hasn't settled. But we'll get there soon.

I assume that has to do with concerns around the owner.

i think he’s resigning lol

I'd stake $50 one it, $20 it'll be a year... trading him now is trigger happy and unnecessary, and will only happen if he's demanded in a request for a much better player. If Drury trades him otherwise, not only is he downgrading RW, he wouldn't be maximizing his assets.

If Buchnevich scores 70 pts., they'll likely go long-term... if not, they'll trade him. This is really a no-brainer.

Some. But also the general unknown. Drury is an unknown quantity at this point. It's like a politician without a voting record --- our minds can turn him into whatever we want, salvation or damnation.

The pedigree is there. He looks like he could be a winner. But we don't know what his preferences, tendencies, etc. are going to be.

That'll take time to sort itself out and will probably be more appealing to some people more than others.

I really don’t have great track of Gallant, but Tocchet could definitely be a better fit with this team than GG. Tocchet is probably one of the safer options out there. He has been around teams winning due to talent his entire life and of course picked up a lot of things playing with basically all the greats. By all accounts he is very professional.

To some extent, I wonder if he isn’t the guy we should have had, while possibly not being the perfect fit for making a team taking another step.

This is magical thinking. Absorbing talent by osmosis. If only it worked liked that lol.

So we’re trading for Jones so we can play him in a position he’s never played before, hoping to further increase his trade value?

Did I read that correctly?
No, you did not read it correctly.

We are not trading for Jones,
We are trading him at the only remaining position possible, with the plan to move him as soon as his trade value is recognized as sufficiently high --- assuming that is not the case.

If we are keeping the genuine article (Fox) --- and we are;
and
all our other Ds are being kept to increase our physicality;
then where do you propose we play Jones?

People saying no Jones to W under these circumstances
are those who like to eat the sausage,
but don't want to suffer/know how it is made.

If Dolson can land Woodson and Matta then we should be able to build a monster staff.

Rangers are good on RD.

Unless they have a way to move Trouba in which case I'm all for the complicated ways to do so.

lay off the devils lettuce broski. Quite a reach from outside the box thinking like trying a 4th line fwd at 1C or moving Kravtsov to 1C which are improbable but still have some grounded basis in reality.

it’s quite another to move one of the premier LD in the league to RW where he hasn’t played in the league ever to benefit for Robertson’s toughness. I’m probably one of the biggest proponents of Robertson on this site. But on his best day jones eats him for breakfast in terms of toughness and physicality

finding that hard to believe.
per CF:
Robertson: height 6'4" 202 lbs
Jones: 5'11" 175 lbs

old sports adage: usually the good big man defeats the good little man

this is not quite the same b'c other aspects favor Jones, but not toughness and physicality.

To those who wanna be critical, fine.
Just speak to the facts.
@TheBloodyNine is correct, and as I mapped out, someone has to go.
Is anyone suggesting we deal any one of Lindgren, KAM, Robertson, Fox, Nils L and Schneider [Trouba not an option now, and Schneid will step in first chance] instead of Jones?

The whole point of showcasing Jones is to up his value and prove how good he is at NHL level to when we deal, we max our return. I'd like to add and get a Vilardi type back. But LA will try to offer us less. Howev, if Jones is sufficiently proven, his value commands a high en0ugh return.

Jones to 3RW is b'c there is no room elsewhere he has to do second reserve at D.
But IF IF IF we can add further to his value if he demonstrates reasonably good look on offense, that adds still more to his value and enlarges base of potential suitors.

Don’t ever change.

Okay this sounds crazy, but for some reason, I feel like stamkos is a target, cap strapped tampa can only get away with cap manipulation for so long and yes, they do have to pay point, who's minimum aav can only be 9 million(based off his last year of salary for the bridge, the aav is the lowest qualifying offer possible). Do I want stamkos? Not really. He's very injury prone. However, with fo's sight set on winning now, he could be the short term piece before his contract gets ugly. I personally dont know how you get from 97 million to 81.5 million without either gutting your depth or selling a high aav player, but this is a deal where you could get him for cheap and settle for a buyout when he becomes too old. I dont know, this offseason can be anything honestly because rangers have around 10 mil to play with. Is it the right move- to get a stanley cup winning center? Is it worth the risk?

Hear me out-

Glendening in free agency.

One of the best faceoff men in the league last year.

Detroits number one defensive zone draw and penalty killing center.
For a moment a few years ago I thought we had acquired him...

With us being 3-4 years away from being a SERIOUS Cup contender....as much as I like what I see from Danault as a player....his age is a concern as well as possibly his work effort once he signs on . I think he might lose a lot of energy once he signs that deal . It has happened so many times before to us . We have a couple of years to get that spot righted ....let's not panic and maybe just maybe a new coach can shape Chytil into what we seek or a smarter option opens up for us over the next two seasons .

We do not need a perfect roster next season we just need one to be in the playoffs and not bind us up even further down the road with possibly a bad contract when we will want to add for a deep run and will need a bit of extra cap space at that time .
^This and more of this. ^
