The value in what you suggest is very fair.
But we are missing tactical options here.
We do NOT HAVE TO take back a C for Stepan, who we must move
unless
we weaken that by moving Miiler/Hayes/Zib/Lindy
I get the feeling Smith won't be re-signing with us. Also, I'm thinking Klein is moved if not claimed.

Why are you including the Rangers?
Why are you including the Rangers?
Because I'm stupid and didn't think that way.

15 team list is pretty tough to move. There aren't very many teams willing to take on a terrible player with years and a big contract. G's agent will know which teams are in a position to take him and willing to do so.
Hahaha. You're probably not the only one.
So theoretically wouldn't it behoove the Rangers to have Nashville lose? They would for sure be looking to add in the offseason and would seem to be a landing spot for someone like Nash or Stepan, no?
What would they give up in return though that would help the Rangers now. A Nash trade would give cap space but I don't see Nashville moving any of their big 4 D in a trade for Stepan if they are going to make another run.
Why?
