So McPhee acknowledged that some of the names that are going to be announced as the selection roster are going to be traded the next day. What a **** show.

That is kind of ridiculous. I hope he speaks to the players ahead of time.

Just in the sense that MIN is in win-now mode like we are, whereas VGK is still building. Based on discussion over the past weeks, if it was a Stepan/roster player for Dumba - we were filling one hole by making another... However, if VGK is looking to build from the ground up with picks and prospects, it might be easier to do that for a young RHD than move a Stepan.

edit: although, now that I think about it - competing with 29 other teams for him would probably drive up the price anyway... nevermind.

That happens every expansion draft, though. In 2000, Columbus made one trade the day of the draft; Minnesota made 3. Atlanta made 2 in 1999 then 2 more before the season started. Nashville didn't make any immediately, but made 4 trades of players they took in the expansion draft before the start of their first season. Tampa made 1 the day of the draft and 2 more deals before the season. San Jose and Minnesota each made 4 deals in 1991 (6 of the 8 happened before July 1).

Not to mention: The Lightning and Senators only picked 21 players (one from each team, same as now). The Ducks and Panthers only picked 24 players. The 4 1998-2000 picked 26 each. So the Knights are starting out with 4 more players than any other team in expansion history, which is still 7 more than they really need, and the exposure requirements are much more favorable now than they were before too.

I have no problem with it. And I'm sure McPhee will notify any player he's arranged a trade for before he picks them.

Yeah I was going to mention this is normally what happens with expansion drafts the last time the league went through it Atlanta and Nashville traded players afterward.

Well, here's hoping they take Kevin Klein.

And yeah, Dumba or Vatanen from LVGK would be a nice compromise move.

I know. I'm knocking the awards show reveal, not the process itself. Seems like they could've just let it play out instead of trying to turn it into a marketing machine.

I didn't realize Carolina is way under the cap floor, and there was some speculation that they have a deal in place to take Lack, which would put them even further below the floor with nobody notable to sign.

"Ladies and gentlemen.. your June 21st 2017 Las Vegas Golden Knights!"**

** Roster subject to immediate change. Seriously. The league office is a joke.

I don't see the issue. We knew this was going to happen. They have to select 30 players and most of them will be waiver eligible. They will have to trade some if they don't want to waive them and lose them for nothing.

We have a Stepan and Nash that could help with that

Before they announced that, lots of people were complaining that it wasn't going to be televised and saying the NHL was stupid for missing an opportunity.

I'd rather they did it as a separate thing rather than as part of the awards ceremony, but whatever.

After running a quick mock, I'm thinking this will be Vegas's depth chart pre-trades

J. Marchessault / V. Shipaychov / J. Neal
M. Grabner / T. Plekanec / C. Soderberg
J. Nordstrom / M. Kruger / T. Brouwer
C. Eakin / W. Karlsson / J. Weal
K. Rychel / A. Burmistrov

M. Methot / S. Vatanen
C. DeHaan / M. Dumba
T. Enstrom / B. McNabb
L. Sbisa / Z. Bogosian
B. Dillon / C. Miller
C. Gunnarsson / J. Merill

M. Fleury
P. Mrazek
P. Grubauer

They are going to take defensemen and flip them for some more offensive fire power IMO.

So when are the expansion picks being announced? I've heard at the awards and at they would announce who they're taking from each team after that teams pick in the draft..

I think they're the dark horse candidate for Stepan. They were after Duchene, but there was lots of talk about how he didn't have enough term on his deal for their liking. There was also talk about their ownership considering selling the team or relocating I believe. Tough sell for free agents.

Hanifin would be a great get, but I'm not sure if I can see them parting with him for Stepan.

Lots of talk about relocation. Making guys uneasy.

They won't move Hanifin, but Aho+ or faulk+ would get my attention

I have a really hard time believing that teams like MIN, NYI & ANA don't already have protection deals worked out already. Read NYI is essentially sending their 1st for LV to take Grabovski & Kulemin off their hands. I feel like OTT must have something in the works to protect Methot. Losing him for nothing is sort of criminal asset management. CLB is rumored to have a deal. I thought it was to get LV to take Clarkson off their hands but I'm not even seeing him on the list (probably due to injuries) so no clue what that is about.

McPhee talked about the need of keeping things simple, sounded like teams had apporched him with 3 way deals etc but it's just too many moving parts for him and too much action to be too cute.

Who would you guys rather take -- Vatanen or Manson? I like Manson but his offense is definitely very short.
