Roster Building/Team Building/Future Trade/Drafting thread.

If this team once again fails to proceed very far in the playoffs, what would you want them to do?

Knies: $7 mill AAV x 6
Marchand: $8 mill AAV x 4

Marner Sign-and-Trade + 3rd for Karlsson

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Marchand-Tavares-Nylander
McMann-Karlsson-Roslovic
Lorentz-Laughton-Steeves
Holmberg

McCabe-Tanev
Rielly-Carlo
Benoit-OEL
Myers

Karlsson’s line becomes the shutdown line that can actually contribute offensively. More offensive zone starts for Matthews’ line. You can swap Marchand for Domi then heavily shelter Nylander’s line which gives you two lines you can throw out there in all situations.

Honestly, Marner agreeing to a sign and trade feels like it is the only left that he can do to prevent making him an incredibly hated ex-Leaf once he’s gone.

He's done nothing in his time here to to avoid rendering him one of the most genuinely unlikeable athletes to play in Toronto, for any sport.

Quite far from the God-like, beloved Gilmour-esque status that you know deep inside his petty-ass craves that kind of reverence in his “home town”.

Feels like accepting a sign and trade is really the only thing left that Marner can do to avoid the outright hate that will come his way if he leaves for nothing.

Nothing he has to do, of course, but he will be making his bed with this fan base, and by making his bed, I firmly mean shitting in it.

Either way, can’t wait for his clown car driven by Papa Marner and Ferris to haul ass out of here.

Enough is enough.
I don't think enough people speak about this.

The single biggest thing that a pro hockey player has when he's "done" is a proud reflection of their career. Marner isn't going to be able to return to his hometown uninterrupted for the next 25 years.

It's insane that this guy doesn't want to take the high road and pick his team, get his 8th year, and move on amicably. Leaving this way is going to be a heck of an experience for Mitch... And the rest of his family.

Yup - he will be the most hated Leaf in history. His selfishness and lack of loyalty is beyond what I could have imagined.

I'm not even sure what a comparable deal for Zegras looks like with Toronto.

But there are a few other guys like that available, whether they're on Treliving's radar is another question.
There's the 4th and 2nd, we have those and Poehling who's a mid 20's journeyman 4th line center

I think if you liked Zegras you could beat that offer

Today's Real Kyper and Bourne also talked about it. Not "done" but "agreed upon" (whatever that means)

I'll believe it when it actually happens, but at the same time as much as the Leafs need a guy like Marchand its kinda hard to swallow signing him for that much for that long with the Leafs. Another great player who's past his prime that you hope can still contribute while signing a nice retirement contract with the Leafs.

Lets see what happens first before I start panicking.
